Our performances dropped off massively when Casemiro was out, we got shagged in midfield by every team possible. This should be something to focus on, who is the adequate back up to Casemiro?. We definitely need someone otherwise it's going to be a difficult season again.

As expected, Mount signed. This thread is done. Chelsea here we go coming very soon.

I never rated him before but this has gotten me excited. Something about him screams intelligence & chelsea fans were quite protective over him.

Alright you lot. You've got your man. Stay the feck out of this thread now. It's all mine.

Class player. But he's too costly for the role that's available at united. I hope we don't plan to go into the season with Mctominay in that role though.

Pathetic. Funding a direct rivals purchase of arguably the biggest midfield talent in the league. I'm furious.

You realize Caicedo can play as an 8 right?

Either way with him or Mount you are playing a player in a position they haven't played as much and hoping they can adapt.

If we're using our #8 in the advanced #8/#10 hybrid way we have been for a lot of the second half of the season, Mount has to do far less adapting.

We know we won't be after Caicedo unless Fred or McT is sold. Mount is a much required replacement for Eriksen while the current Caicedo isnt.

Ten hag wants 2x 8/10 hybrids. So Bruno and Mount ahead of Casemiro. Caicedo is class, and I'm sure he would've adapted it, but we don't have the money for him nor is it a pressing need for Ten Hag as he'd rather build more forward thinking, more ball players in the team.

People need to stop worrying about what some other club does. Ten Hag is building us incrementally, this is a huge step forward in terms of us being a top counter pressing side where we can deal with big fixture congestion and maintain a high level. A midfield of casemiro, Bruno and Mount is a quality midfield 3 on paper. Let's see how Ten Hag cooks it.

Caicedo, a natural midfielder, is not as good at 8 than Mount?

Did you ignore the fact that we need more goal threat/goals where Mount is much better? Ok. ETH want's a hybrid with goal threat, not natural positions. When will people realize. Mount for half the money is much better deal than Caicedo, it is simple as that.

There's different ways to be an 8. Ten hag clearly wants an 8/10 hybrid and to have 2 ball players in front of Casemiro, the ball winner. Caicedo is a 6, and in Ten Hags system there is only 1 of those. Whether he played a 4231 or 433, he still only ever has max 1 ball winning midfielders and has 2 playmakers around that player. Whether it's a deep playmaker or an advanced playmaker.

Hate the "buying Mount helps Chelsea buy Caicedo so its a bad deal"....firstly it is utter taddles, they have already raised plenty through sales before this deal. Secondly what kind of stupid way is that to look at a transfer? You buy a player, because you think this is the right player to improve your side, regardless of who the club is you are buying from, considering how they are going to spend that money is irrelevat completely, utter stupidity people thinking that way.

If we wanted Caicedo, we would have gone for Caicedo over Mount. Do I think Caicedo was the better optio....yes, do I have full trust in ETH and his decisions...no, he has been here a year and done well but so have others before, lets wait and see how he does in second season syndrome....but we should allow whoever is the manager to make ther eown decisions and succeed or fail on them.

As the psot above mentions, Caicedo isnt a number 8 as neither is Mount, so either would.will have to learn to adapt...that is the odd part of the signing for me summed up, Mount for me isnt a number 8, so be interesting to see how he fits in there and is used

Actually he played as an 8 before Bissouma left, he can play both positions well and can also play as an attacking 8.
There is a reason he was and has been considered by us for a while.

Hes more of a gamble and for reasons beyond the 20m+ extra fee. We missed the boat on him really. Timing is everything and it favoured us with Mount who's very good in his own right.

Not as a playmaker though. He's a quality player, but I don't see him ever excelling in a playmaker role. He's good on the ball but not particularly creative (neither is casemiro on the whole, not in an advanced playmaker sense), which was my argument against Rice too. In Ten Hags system, there's only room for 1 of those.

He was too expensive for us anyway, and I don't doubt that we had interest, but it'd lead to an adjustment on Ten Hags plans for how he wants our midfield to be with eventually him just stepping in for Casemiro and moving towards this current plan anyway I'm sure. And then the next step would be getting one of the two 8/10's to be a more controlled player who can dictate tempo better, but not a big deal if we don't do that all right away.

Agree he was too expensive, we obviously had interest in both him and Rice, issues was cost

Over 70 million or so was way over priced , so hopefully we don't pay that.
