Very smart from Kudus. l Players will start signing shorter contracts or inserting release clauses to protect their interests and slowly the market will come back into balance.

I've no idea why it's been posted in two separate threads on here. It's just a fan posting a silly, bitter take.

I've posted enough dumb Chelsea fan takes over the years I'm kinda insulted people are looking for more. Maybe I need to ramp up the dumbness or pay for a blue tick.

If EtH likes players who are versatile like Pavard, Kudus seems to completely fit the bill for our needs. He's a damn good midfielder as well as winger. 40m is a respectable figure to pay Ajax for him.

It's a very odd phenomenon. Just look at any thread on here involving Dortmund.

Personally, I think Brighton should hold out for whatever they think is right.

I agree although what I will say (the blogger said it horribly) is eventually more and more players will start demanding release clauses from Brighton but that is for them to deal with and the Bloom brothers are extremely bright so I'm sure they aren't losing sleep over it.

What does he give us that we need?

We have plenty of cover at number 10 and Antony plus 2 talented young right wingers desperate for an opportunity.

As @Abraxas said I think it’s more applicable to players being plucked directly out of South America or Asia than established players from established European clubs. Brighton will be fine doing it the way they are.

The Bloom brothers?

he would give us another quality CM other than Bruno, Mount and Casemiro. Can't get thru a 60 match schedule with just 3 quality CM's.

I'm not going to claim to be an expert on the player but has he ever regularly played central midfield?

Yeah, completely agree. The arguments against are pretty tenuous- no-one's saying they have to be 15m releases clauses for, say Ferguson or their young South American wingers. They got big money for Cucurella, so something like that or Haaland at Dortmund style clause.
Brighton are notorious for not keeping their word. In the Cucurella transfer, he initially wanted to join city and they offered 30M but Brighton rejected it and asked for 40M . Then they offered 40M but they rejected it again and asked for 50M. They, City backed out of the deal. But, chelsea agreed to pay the fee and Brighton shifted the goal posts again and demanded 50M + permanent transfer of Colwill. Chelsea, then insisted on only a loan. Finally, Brighton demanded a new fee of 62M for them to agree to only a loan. Chelsea got destroyed in that deal and it showed how Brighton can never be trusted in a deal.

I think @Abraxas was saying the opposite no?

As in, Brighton can continue to insist on no release clauses with players they pluck out of obscurity. Players like Kudus, who have options, and are already exposed to the biggest clubs, might not be easy to secure but they seem to have a pipeline of undiscovered gems with their scouting network, so they’ll be fine, even if they occasionally run into problems with players of Kudus’ calibre.

I’m a Brighton fan, member of the fan committee and have also worked for the club on a freelance basis in a legal capacity. I have never once seen or spoken to Darren at the club, although I have met him socially. Darren has no association with the football club, other than being a fellow supporter and the owner’s brother. The Bloom family have a long-standing association with the club, going back to the 1970’s, but Darren has been hugely successful in property ownership and management and has never been directly employed by the club.

I think you may have have gotten a bit confused. Our CEO, the guy in charge on Tony’s behalf and doing the actual negotiating, is Paul Barber OBE, formerly of England FA and Tottenham. Tony Bloom is known to be very hands off in day to day management, with his main focus being his company Starlizard, as well as managing his portfolio of properties, race horses and non-Starlizard gambling interests.

In fact, aside from being very intelligent in his own right and being very wealthy off the back of his businesses in the gambling industry, Bloom’s biggest strength has always been the quality of his recruitment and the trust he places in his employees to act on their own initiative on his behalf. It’s why Barber is the highest paid CEO in the Premier League.

Okay cool we are on the same page.

I'd agree somewhat although it totally depends if that player from an obscure league has already signed up with moderate sized agent or agency which a lot of them have.

Any decent agent will insist on a release clause with Brighton moving forward. This isn't to say Brighton have done anything wrong, they've been brilliant.

Like I said, the blooms and especially Tony are really bright so they will figure a away around it easily.

I think this may have been meant to be in response to my post.

Just to say the reason I mentioned both the bloom brothers is that I read a long write up on them a while ago and one of the things emphasized is that they constantly lean on eachother and run things past one and other. Considering both are clearly extremely bright and successful I reckon Derren is an asset for Tony when making top level decisions.

Either way the point I was making is that your club is brilliantly run and I imagine that the "reprucussions" of playing hardball with certain players have probably been factored in and planned for a while now.

It'll be interesting to see if this deal gets revived. Someone like Kudus roaming from a high midfield position on that team just seems like a match made in heaven.

Naturally. Was always logical they would seek to replace Paqueta with a creative/offensive player. Many seemed to expect they would see McTominay as a replacement. I suspect Scott’s role has been filled by Ward-Prowse.

Paqueta out and Kudus in is great business if they can make it happen. Kudus is a better player for my money, and half the price too.

I predicted this exact move when someone here thought they would go after McTominay to replace Paqueta.

It doesn't mean McTominay is dead in the water. His role still hasn't been filled, either.

West Ham with a midfield depth that has them contending 8th-10th on paper is no bad thing.

It has. They signed both Alvarez and Ward-Prowse

Are they gonna pay 35m for depth in their midfield?

No it hasn't. Neither of those players are powerful, driving CM's.

Who said that is what they want?
West Ham sources have said repeadtly they wanted 2 out of Fofana, Alvarez, JWP and McTominay and they have signed 2

Kudus takes care of the driving with the ball bit anyway, he's far better in that aspect than McTominay.

McTominay is a Moyes player all day. I don't think they're done with him.
