Modric vs Bale

Modric, his technique is simply vastly superior to Bale. Bale will get found out soon much like he did against Everton and us. But Modric, he is footballer's footballer, very composed, has the workrate, creativity and sublime passing. He is the closest player to Iniesta if ever there is one

The way he got found out against the European Champions and one of the best full backs in the world?

There is more than one way to skin a cat you know. Modric may have better technique, though Bale is still good in this department, but Bale is devestatingly direct. They'd both be welcome additions to our side, bringing different qualities.

I am not denying Bale's obvious qualities but at the day it all boils down to what position do we need to address first and in my view it's central midfield and hence Modric. But as we also saw in the first half of last season, Modric is also a very capable operator on the left

Just came across one of your posts that you'll have a laugh at Pogue:

As for Modric... meh... nothing special. Will probably develop into one of the better midfielders in the league, nowhere near the best. The likes of Palacios, Arteta and Barry are all much better than him and that's without even getting into midfielders at the "big four" (how much longer before we stop using that phrase altogether?)

Hehe. Gareth fecking Barry.

The thing with Modric is there still should be more to come, you see his two strikes today - both beautifully hit - and you know there's definitely a few more goals in there.

He's still very naive defensively, let Fabregas run off the back of him over and over again, and it's happened countless times this season.

Erm... I'm not talking about Bale. I thought he was distinctly average.

He was a bit isolated from the game which wasn't exactly his fault. Great goal though, at one point he dribbled around 4 Arsenal players with ease. Fantastic player.

Hilarious, brwned, that post you "just came across" is really really funny. Well done. There's loads more where that came from, no doubt. I didn't think Modric would thrive in the Premier League at all.

He's come on in leaps and bounds though. Looks the business in central midfield this season. Would love to see him at United.

Modric was invisible in the first half and only grew into the match after Bale scored. Had one great strike, didnt do too much other than that. Bale was good.

Bale was not even close two good. He was hardly in the game.

He scored and got half of his opposing team booked running the ball past them.

Spurs scored 1 goal and won a penalty for another goal, from freekicks. So winning lots of freekicks was a big factor for them. Park did the same for us today mind you, no goal.

The backlash has begun....ooooooooh

Who do you think's going to be the better player Pogue, Gareth Bale or Danny Wellbeck?

Only one Spurs midfielder actually had a good game today IMO but he was very very good in the second half.

Really? I thought he was terrible in the first half. Lazy and lacking in concentration both on and off the ball.

He was better in the second half, I wouldn't call his overall performance good. Surprised he's been named MOTM.

As great as Bale is I'd choose Modric as he's a player we need more than a winger.Bale on the left and Nani on the right would be awesome though

What I do like about Bale is his delivery. I think it's better than both Nani and Valencia no matter what the assists chart say. He's delivers the right ball very very consistently. A combination of Nani's ability with the ball at feet and Bales speed and crossing and you'd have the perfect winger. Them on either flank would pretty much give you everything. Then again, Valencia can improve too.

I agree.Bale has also a better composure in front of goal, the way he slotted the ball against Arsenal is a good proof. He's so good already and the room for improvement is there too

The only thing for him to prove as far as I'm concern is his ability with the ball at feet. Can he find a way to influence games where there isn't space to run in behind the defense. His final ball for me is something that separates him from a lot of players who are fast and can finish (eg. Walcott). Even his generic cross, pinged into the box, is excellent.
