Modric vs Bale

Id way prefer Bale. He looks like he was born to play for United. To find a British left winger like him is rare too. He would stay for life. Modric looks like one of Santa's helpers and there is tons of players we could sign for a similar fee that would do a similar job such as Defour, Hamsik etc!
Bale would sell shit loads of shirts I reckon also

Modric was excellent today and had to be since Palacios was sabotaging Spurs midfield by seemingly being unaware his team were in the white shirts.
Modric was good when Spurs did their death-or-glory thing (which should have seen them 3 or 4 down). He was useless in the first half as Lucas and Miereles ran the CM.

The way things are going I'd be amazed if City don't try to blow a wad of cash on Bale over the summer (or even possibly earlier). He's the must have footballing accessory this season.

He is a lot better than either of them you mentioned. I am now inclined to believe if we do go for either of them in the summer, i would prefer it to be Modric.

Nani is doing superbly well and Valencia comes back, we will have the most potent wing attack in the league alongside Spurs and Nani is an able replacement on the Left and he can progress his form form the left wing but when after scholes retires, we would a CM that controls the game's flow and Modric has got the ability to connect defense to attack very well. I am seeing a Xavi/Iniesta in him and he's done superbly well for Spurs all season.

Milner to the bench then.

Aye, if it happened you'd assume so. Though he'll probably have to become a bit more expansive in the middle and he might sacrifice someone like Barry for Milner as he's more willing to go forward and join in.

If Citeh did blink first and throw down a wedge (triggering others to pull the trigger) presumably their mega offers would be worthless if Bale flatly refused to join them?

A press release something along the lines of “Why would I want to join that shower of shit when I have United bidding for me?”

You don’t see much of that though.

The run Modric made today against Liverpool which led to the first Tottenham goal was brilliant. He went past three Liverpool players and if Srktel did not touch it, then Crouch would have had a simple tap in.

If Spurs dont qualify for Champions League I can see a couple of their players leaving, but I do hope they qualify.

Modric would do!

Im not sure that Bale will continue his pace of development and become a consistent world class winger like Giggs .... he has it still all to prove after this initial excitement. Modric however I think is over his initial phase of talent and is nicely maturing into a genuinely consistent performer. Likewise, the advances in training and diet have shown that players can maintain a very high standard unti there mid 30s.

So getting Modric (I assume it will still be a significant sum of money) feels like a more secure bet .... and given the imminent farewell to Paul Scholes :( along with our GK its a position that needs urgent attention.

Plus Bale had his chance and Im abit spiteful like that .... he was offered the chance to join us and turned us down .... well he can stuff it then. So I agree with Pogues OP - Modric feels like a very obvious signing .... in fact Im signing him into my FM team right away!

Bale clearly didnt like Gary Neville. Which is unlikely to be a problem after the summer.

Or was that Ramsey?

I love Giggs and he was a world class winger but consistent he never was. His biggest flaw was always his lack of consistency.

I'm all for signing Modric over Bale though, just wanted to point this out.

So the "Modric to United" thread is 30 pages long.

Anyone still think they would prefer to sign Bale, given the choice of one or other of them?

Muppetry aside I would like both. Modric has to be the preferred because central midfield is the priority, and he is one of the few top quality CMs around that can play in a 4-4-2, for me.

If half a chance crept up to sign Bale though, I would take it.

Agree with this.

Modric is a class act and plays a position we seem to be crying out for.

As for Bale, as much as he was over rated by many in the first half of the season he now seems to be equally under rated. I'm still not sure what his best position is but he's a very good player.

I disagree with that point about Giggs as you got work rate every game that was very consistent, infact unbelievable the way he covered up and down the flank. Yes in terms of delivery it dipped sometimes but more than not he produced show me another out and out winger who was/is more consistent than Giggs in England?

Agreed on all counts.

As for Bale, he is young enough that he can be moulded into whatever type of player a manager needs him to be, from full back to winger. My biggest concern would be his delivery.

One assist in the Premier League this season, to the best of my knowledge anyway. That's just not good enough.

Jesus... If the Spurs CF knew how to finish, I wouldn't be surprised if that "1" assist or what ever you saw was converted to a "10"

Dont' judge players by numbers... Seriously...

Watch him freakin' play.

His delivery is up there with the best, have you not seen him play? The guy has his faults no doubt so far he's injury prone and a bit one dimensional-I don't mean that in a bad way but he's like Valencia in that not much tricks in his locker when beating a man but what he does is very effective as he is so hard to stop. I would love to sign him, as we could possibly get improvement out him like we have done with Valencia and yes he will be more expensive but personaly I think he's at a better level than Valencia was when we bought him from Wigan. Could be an exciting signing.

But he'd cost double what Valencia did. I don't think the fact he's naturally left footed is reason enough to buy him when much cheaper options are available that would provide the same service.

Modric had three in case you wondered.
