Mo Salah

Well, ain't this cute. I hope you are not referring to this as something your lot doesn't do anymore?

Most teams have a player who doesnt mind a dive. Salah is on another level though, it is almost every second week he is faking contact and throwing himself to the floor. Needs to add a few more rolls Neymar style to add to the farce.

Can CFC Mod (when he has some time free from writing chants) balance out his argument by showing Drogba, Hazard and some white people preferably with British sounding names?

Otherwise, you know, it looks kind of selective. Almost racist. Right CFC?

This idea that the ref should just give it is fine for this one probably because it's such an extreme example of holding & falling over like a girl for the twelvety million team this season.

Often the first contact is initiated by the attacker because he wants to feel where the defender is & spin off. Technically that should be a FK for the defence but would look ridiculous so the game gets played with a bit of allowed holding being the trade-off for the ref in trying to be 'fair.' Defender holds while he readjusts his relative position. Obviously Morrison got a bit carried away & never disengaged, probably knowing that Mo would be away and/or can't be tackled because he is such a cheating cnut.

I'm going to say that the attacker backing in slightly should be a FK because of the advantage it gains not because of the level of infringement but of course 99 % ++ of us wouldn't recognise this or wouldn't want to, because it'd be a farce of a game we were watching.

That's a poncey long winded way of saying that it's very difficult for the ref dealing with the more normal looking stuff.

Are people seriously complaining about Salah going down? He was being manhandled by the defender, and deserved a pen. Sadly refs never give it unless he falls down, so obviously he has to dive to get it. 100% justified dive.

ref should have blown the whistle if he saw it or the linesman should have flagged by the first few seconds this happened but sadly neither happened and most strikers would have tried to dive. I think if this kind of grappling is not punished in the EPL then liverpool should re-sign martin skrtel back for 75M

let me give one frictional example... a striker is through on goal in control of the ball inside the left side of the box and the defender just behind him tugs his shirt... the tugging does not cause the striker to fall but just made him slow down abit so that the goalkeeper gets to the ball before the striker does... the referee does not blow the whistle nor the linesman flag... i think most strikers will dive in this instant to get the referee's attention.

Because the referee wouldn't have given the penalty if he didn't. It's a blatant pen, the defender has no clue where the ball is but he's got his arms around Salah deliberately obstructing him.

Players wouldn't need to fall dramatically if refs started doing their job and giving penalties for situations where it's a foul but the player doesn't fall. Blame them, not the players.

I think there is a lot of truth here. Salah is a "small" player, if a 1,90m defender starts to harass him, he is not going to physically win the battle. And I have seen it many times with Borussia Dortmund, if the player tries to stay up and finish somehow, which makes the finish a lot weaker than without "harassment", the referee is not going to punish the defender. As a small player, you are basically forced to fall down to get the penalty.
On a sidenote: One other thing I really dislike, while we are at it, is that referees are no longer booking fouls on purpose consistently with a yellow. If you foul/hold/kick a player on purpose, you get a booking.

That video is pathetic, to say the least. One dive in it and lots of angles that don't tell the whole story and

make it easy to misjudge the situation. His biggest dive against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge is also not shown.

It was a 100% dive in order to gain a 100% penalty that he wouldn't have gotten otherwise.

Massively blown out of proportion, the defender was all over him and the ref should have seen it an rightfully awarded the penalty way before he had to go down.

Yes there are plenty of times he has cheated, this wasn’t one of them.

If it was outside the box it would be a foul. So what's the difference when he's in the box?

Nothing.

And that's why it should have been a penalty but then also a yellow card for Salah for the dive. You can't advocate cheating just because cheating gets you the right outcome. Imagine in poker, you cheat swapping a card without people seeing to win the hand, but you actually would have won with the hand you already had. Outcome correct but method deplorable.

I think it should be made a more viable option for referees. That they can award a penalty but also book the player who is fouled if they believe the reaction to the foul was a dive. It's really not that hard to spot.

In fact, VAR will make it even easier. They review it and the decision can be penalty and a yellow for the attacking player

Odious diver. Gary Neville and his merry band need to begin the narrative on this one. Far too many instances have gone without talking points. Suppose they’re too busy waxing lyrical about how no man has ever dribbled past the one man van Dijk.

A former colleague of mine once did a study on diving in football. Showed a load of different videos of fouls and asked lots of people to watch them and categorise them as either actual fouls or dives. They then analysed and coded the footage in the two groups of videos and in the ones which were most often judged as dives there was a clear body shape difference compared to those judged as real fouls.

The divers all typically arched their backs and heads backwards and raised both arms outwards. If you want a clear example, and sorry scousers, but Gerrard in the 2005 final is one of them.

Of course we still do it .. pretty infrequently but it does happen.

This season Rose has been guilty a couple of times (our worst offender) and Kane has done it once. I don't like it and never will.

Salah is an 'i'm going to exaggerate/fake contact every single week' kinda bloke though.

You forgot to mention Alli, though. Who, besides his diving, is also the least likeable character in the whole PL.

Salah dives more often, that's true. But at least he's not, you know - evil.

Seems to be the hallmark of a Liverpool title challenge, an odious, cheating little cretin as the spearhead of their team. Salah in 2019, Suarez in 2014, Gerrard in 2009. Who was it in 2002?

Thankfully every time they've come close they've slipped back off into obscurity the following season.

I hate diving as much as the next guy, but the defender is trying to sexually assault Salah and the ref does nothing, so he has to give him a little nudge with a theatrical fall, just to get what he deserves.

And it's not like this is an exception, as a player you learn at some point that unless you make a show of it it the ref will always side with the defender, unless it's a very obvious offence of course.

Alli hasn't dived in ages. Not once this season.

You don't like Alli .. that doesn't make him evil.

First player to reach 20 goals this season in the premier league.

Also the second in the league in terms of goals+assists after Hazard. Salah had a role in 28 goals, scored 20 and assisted 8 while Hazard scored 16 and assisted 13, total 29.

Apparently both aren't in PFA TOTY. Joke.

And he is apparently a one-season wonder

Looks nowhere near the player he did last season. Oh but he’s playing well against Huddersfield, I’m sold.

21 goals and counting.

Gonna be funny if he ends up being the top goal scorer again without being in PFA TOTY.

He’s not in the team of the year because he’s had large spells where it looked as though he would be better suited to clown college. I guess a good game against Huddersfield changes that eh.

It is the closest top scorer race since sliced bread though. So many players on 16+ goals. If Aguero or Kane hadn't had injury spells they would probably be a few clear, and Vardy would be up there if Puel hadn't been an idiot and dropped him for a bit (same goals per minute as Salah+Mane).

He can get the most goals but Sterling is having a better season. Slaah has been good and atrocious in patches. Even if he gets top gs he won't be ahead of Sterling especially if City win.

I'd take an attacker in our team with that productivity any day.
