MLB 2022

Anyone caught a game on Apple TV this season? Cute bells & whistles, but really poor commentating.

Dodgers are an absolutely insane juggernaut. Just the 20 games ahead of a solid Padres team

Don’t think I’ve seen a quicker pitcher with no one on base than this cat on Boston right now. His average between pitches is 15 seconds, but he’s faster than that this game.

Just heard a Rays announcer talk about Arozarena being a 20/20 player this year. Rickey Henderson came to mind & I had to look at his stats. Unreal how many bases he stole, totally forgot how surreal he was on the base paths…

Ricky is one of those guys who puts proof to the absurdity of HoF voters. 5% of voters did not vote for him on the first ballot. feck those old white dudes and their "Since Ruth wasn't 100% no one can ever be" mentality.

Yep.

Yankees in serious trouble of throwing a 20 game division lead. Have to somehow split the 6 games against Rays as a minimum

Buzzing for The Rays.

Real issues scoring going back 4 weeks or so, but to pick up 9 wins in the last 11 and put some numbers up makes things interesting.

Getting Margot & Ramirez back & hitting has been great. Franco should be coming back next week which will give us a much higher average than Walls. McClanahan getting hurt is a bummer though.

Good start so far. How confident are you about Kluber tonight? (I can't tell whether to start him in fantasy)
He’s been quite revelatory this season. He obviously had massive success with Cleveland, but we didn’t quite know what we were getting at age 36ish. His velocity is down a bit, but he’s been solid this season. His record doesn’t quite show how important he has been for us.

Benintendi getting injured last night might turn out to be really impactful if he can’t go the next two games. He went right down the tunnel after hurting his right hand while swinging.

Couldn’t even get in here to post something before Judge takes the second pitch 450 estimated feet.

You gave it a good shot. Should be proud of your boys
Definitely am. We held them to two runs over 27 innings, I will always take that. We see them again Friday thru Sunday, so the pennant race isn’t quite over yet.

How does it all fit in with your expectations this season? My brother is the Baseball man tbf and he was telling me that TB have one of the smaller collective salaries in the league?

The run of the last 15 or so games has been pretty encouraging by the looks

That’s a common refrain for the Rays, under-salaried yet over-performing.

I expected a playoff spot & to challenge for the division pennant. We had the most IL days at one point in the season & were starting five call ups at one point for a considerable amount of time, but unheralded players stepped up, especially in long relief. Getting back to full strength in the next few days will only help us.

We are still in a WC scrap, but we have cut the NYY lead to five games. We play the AL East a good amount these next 30 days so it will be very exciting.

I am looking forward to the run in myself!

My brother has just moved to the US from UK so he's buzzing about actually being able to watch at a decent hour.

To pull in the Yankees from where they were is some effort...but the run in looks tough?

When we were in Orlando in July I was watching something around potential relocation from TB to Orlando...

So what we saying, Judge is getting to at least 60 right?

We cut it to four, it's at five now. We play them again in a three game series starting Friday. NYY will also be playing other AL East (the bdivision in baseball when looking at W/L records) just like we will, so each of us will have a harder than average last month. NYY is in the midst of quite the slump, so fingers crossed it will continue.

There's always talks of moving from the Trop. IMO they will ultimately be relocated to Tampa, either adjacent to Ybor City or out near the fairgrounds, or to NE St Petersburg, far closer to the cross bay bridges. Tampa Bay as a regional entity won't let the Rays leave to a rival region in FL.

Who knows how quickly we will be moved though. The Rays' lease is up in the Trop in 2027 & there's very little appetite from either party to sign a new one. Here's a great recap of the near past developments towards a new stadium for the ball club...

Thanks buddy :) cheers for that! The wins keep rolling! Take that first game against the Yankees and it might just be on!!

I heard about the plans of splitting with Montreal a few months back. Are the lower attendance figures purely driven by the location of Trop?

Will be interesting to see where the stadium development leads. There were speculative shouts of Disney Imagineering and ESPN WWOS being involved. Purely speculative from the Orlando press one presumes.

It is always a touch sweeter sweeping the BoSox, not gonna lie. This weekend should be a fun one.

Thankfully cooler heads prevailed regarding the proposed splitting of the season between Montreal & St. Petersburg. We shouldn’t be hearing about that plan any longer.

The location has an awful lot to do with it. The fickleness of Tampa Bay fans also plays a part as the Rays aren’t historically a winner (we’ve had some extreme highs by getting to two WS & winning a handful of pennants, but the team has experienced many moribund stretches as well).

The Disney rumors had some validity to them, but the owners are more committed to keeping the Rays in the Tampa Bay area. Who knows how long that sentiment will continue though.

Major League Baseball competition committee to vote on rule changes Friday with eye on quickening pace of play, sources say
  • A 15-second pitch clock with the bases empty and a 20-second clock with runners on
  • Two disengagements from the rubber -- including pickoff attempts -- per plate appearance
  • A requirement by hitters to be in the batter's box and "alert" with eight seconds to go on the clock. Hitters are allowed one timeout per plate appearance
  • Only two infielders will be allowed on each side of second base, with all four required to be on the dirt (or inner grass)
  • Infielders cannot position themselves on the outfield grass before the pitch is thrown
  • Bases will increase in size from 15 inches squared to 18
