Missing out on / ignoring Mane and Kante was a big mistake

Liverpool would have taken Mickey over Mane aswell. He had far better stats.

I like Kante but I'd love to see someone like Javi Martinez alongside Pogba. He's been playing in defence for Bayern but he was immense alongside BS in Heynkes side.

I'd love Martinez as well. I always remember him being superb for Bilbao vs us.

If we'd signed Kante and Mane, and not, say, Pogba and Mkhi, there would've been a thread called "Missing out on/ignoring Pogba and Mkhitaryan was obviously the biggest mistake etc." here.

That said I wanted us to sign Mane.

Exactly, not only that people would have been moaning that we got 2 players from mid table teams, and would have accused Woodward of not being able to sign big name players and then open a new thread called Woodie out !!!

I'd be happy with Mane but not totally bummed about missing out there.

Kante I think was a massive miss.

Exactly my thoughts. Kante would have been absolutely brilliant in a midfield 3 of him, Pogba and Herrara. Would have been the hardest midfield to go through...

This fecking thread. Purely made because two flavour of the month players are doing well for teams playing well. Christ.

I wanted Mane to be fair but was over the moon when later linked with Mkhitaryan. Hindsight is wonderful, it is also a bit like most United fans underrated Firmino and said Depay was the better signing. At this present moment in time we are definitely the worse off team although with Micky it can chance, as for Depay I hope he is shown the door in Jan. Kante I would have liked regardless of signing Pogba.

The irony on this forum is laughable. I remember people saying "Mane!???..wtf have we become"

If signing Kante ruined fosu-mensah' prospects how would you all feel?

Mkhi is better than Mane, something is clearly going on behind the scenes. Will he get his chance to show it?

I actually would have wanted mane instead of micy. purely for more pace along our right side. But I also wanted lukaku instead of Ibrah. horses for courses.

Want to remind you that both Mane and Kante are not just the flavors of the month. Both are playing well from the starts of this season and are very important players for their current team. And Kante is one of last seasons player of the season nominee, and one of the 3 players who were instrumental in an extra-ordinary title triumph.

They certainly are 'flavours of the month' in that both Chelsea and Liverpool are on good runs - while we have been fairly poor - and that usually sends this place into meltdown and people start to envy every fecking player from said rivals.

Anyhow, didn't Kante say he rejected us in favour of Chelsea? That's not really missing out on him, now is it? Also, I don't think Kante is at all what we need; if I could pick a Chelsea player to take, it would be Hazard, and certainly not Kante. I guess I don't rate him nearly as highly as some on here. What difference would Kante have made when we failed to beat Stoke & Burnley, or in the draw at Anfield or the Smalling infused nonsense at Stamford Bridge? None whatsoever.

I see where you're coming from with Mane. I have alluded to this in several threads that we badly needed pace on the wings and I thought it would be addressed over the summer. I agree that we needed a player of Mane's ilk / style, but not necessarily Mane. I think a player like that may have gotten us wins in some of the games that were draws, but who knows? We can't sign every player on the planet. From reading the comments on here and by looking at his stats, I assumed Mkhitaryan was going to be the dogs bollocks but obviously that has yet to work out for reasons unknown.

I hope the wing situation will be addressed next summer but I don't see us signing a player like Kante. I would much rather a Gundogan style player.

I think the player we really should have signed was Riyad Mahrez, he would have been perfect to fill our void in the right wing. We should have tried heaven and earth to get him. I know some may claim he isn't performing this, but the whole Leceister team isn't that great.

He is far pacier than Mkhitaryan would ever be. Mkhitaryan doesn't seem like winger to me, he is more of a number 10 and he doesn't that blistering pace to be a winger. We have too many number 10s now, Mata, Mkhi, Rooney etc.

As for Kante, I think we did miss out on him. We should have signed a pure defensive midfielder like Kante.

I remember being slated for being positive about our bid to bring in Mane in the 2015 Summer window. I seem to recall someone saying Jefferson Montero at Swansea was a better option!!!!

I think both of these players would have added a dimension to our team this season that we seem to lack. A natural winger with pace and a destroyer who can look forward with his first pass in CM.

I wonder if Mourinho had realised sooner that he'd not actually got a real defensive midfielder if he'd have tried harder for Kante. We could've sent Schneiderlin in exchange!

That said, I was bloody happy with the signings we made and the acquisition of Mkhitaryan meant I didn't give a toss about missing out on Mane. What contrasting seasons they've had thus far....
