Miscellaneous Reserve/Youth News

Hope we have a good FAYC run, not been this excited about a youth side since Morrison and Pogba were running things.

Which was also the last time we really challenged for it; it would be good if we could go further this year, although I think they might struggle physically against some sides. Then again technique>physique so here's hoping.

There will be a real conundrum on picking the FA Youth Cup side when Gribbin and Dearnley are back.

Watching the Chelsea side today I don't think they are that strong this year (although obviously their FA Youth Cup side will be much stronger). City, Arsenal and Spurs should be the main competitors this year for us. Spurs would be stronger if Kirby didn't leave them.

Think we could do alright in the cup this year. Chelsea don't look the same this year and between us and City it's close. Arsenal are doing alright in their league, but think we can beat them once we put our full strength team out. Will be interesting to see how we do.

I haven't caught any of Chelsea this year so that's interesting to hear because they're always there or thereabouts and I get the feeling that we'd have to beat City to actually win the thing. It'll be interesting to see how we match up to the North London sides if we come up against them.

I'd almost be tempted not to bring in Gribbin and Dearnley given how well the Under-18s are doing in attack but obviously they'll play. Not so sure Dearnley is actually a part of this side's best eleven but being one of the older players you'd expect him to be a key player regardless.

1-0 Boonen (Chong)
2-0 Boonen (Burkart)
3-0 Buffonge
4-0 Burkart
5-0 Chong

Any clue on possible assists for the last 3 goals?

Those goal and assist tallies are going to need major updating later

Gomes:

Utd: 9 (8+1), 5+5
Eng U17: 4, 3+4

Burkart:

8 (6+2), 3+2

Chong:

8, 2+6

Boonen:

9 (7+2), 5+3

Buffonge:

If they keep on going even at half the rate they are now they will end up with some amazing stats this season.

Boonen almost seems like an underrated talent in this group. All the hype over Burkart, Gomes and Chong and yet Boonen keeps on scoring or assisting every other weak.

Considering that Wolves have done quite ok in their matches so far (8 Points in 6 and only 2 defeats) - being 5-0 up at half-time is insane.

From what I have seen of Booney - he looks a better player to me than Burkart and Chong. But O'Connor could possibly be the biggest talent of them all, after Gomes.

He is underrated. Don't think he's as well known to the mainstream as the others you mentioned.

Can't compare him to Burkart, different positions. Burkart is a striker a number 9. Chong is a different player to Boonen. Chong is an out and out winger while Boonen is more of a wide playmaker if you like, good player.

Completely agree. Even though he scored a fair few last season it was only this season that he really started impressing me, he's far more creative than I initially thought as he was often just finishing off moves last year. He's third to Gomes and O'Connor in my mind in this side. Chong looks decent but I do feel the hype is clouding some people's judgement a bit and Burkart looks good but we'll probably need to see a little more to judge what tier of talent he really is.

Not really comparing them as players - I was just looking at how much they stand out on the pitch, but of course some of it could be down to the fact that Boonen is a year older

Buffonge and Chong are both bigger talents than Boonen for me, although I think Boonen is a better player than Chong currently. Will be very hard to predict who out of them wil eventually make it to the top, you can throw in Gribbin as well.

Very true. Out of Boonen, Chong, Gomes, Buffonge and Gribbin we'd be lucky to get two into the first team properly, not necessarily due to Jose but because they all occupy similar positions and are around the same age.

Boonen now has 12 goals and 8 assists in 19 starts and 6 sub appearances for the u18s

Chelsea still have Baxter, Sterling, Colley, Chalobah, Maddox, Mount and Ugbo eligible who have played more for the u21s than the u18s this season so they'll be very strong again

The u16s are through to the semi finals of the Premier League International tournament after beating beating Everton 1-0, they beat Dortmund 4-1 and drew with WBA 1-1 in the other group games

Do we already know the opponent? Do you know if the possible final will be tomorrow as well?

Either Fulham or Anderlecht. Anderlecht topped a group with Spurs, Chelsea and City while Fulham won the group with Liverpool, Derby and Porto. The semi and final are both tomorrow

@Mr. MUJAC @khoazany @jb8521 @Leonard17 @limerickcitykid - I know it’s probably too early to tell, but at the moment, based on what you’ve seen/heard, who are the standout talents in the U16 team? And sorry, I know you’ve probably answered this a few times already, but you can only blame yourselves, possessing all that knowledge ;)

Laird, Garner, Williams and Levitt would be the standout names from this group. Not as strong in terms of standout players as some of the younger groups.

Cheers. Still time to recruit for that age group though :) Williams’ first name? I know it’s probably the most common last name in England, but he’s not related to Ro-Shaun by any chance?

Brandon is his first name, no relation to Ro-Shaun.
