Miscellaneous Reserve/Youth News

So that’s why they let him lift the AP Cup North trophy. Nice touch from the boys.

I am slightly surprised because I thought he was quite highly rated & he was invited to an England GK camp this earlier season.

Assume the club must rate Osachukwu higher.

Well - in fairness, when did England last produce a really good goalkeeper ? So being a talented english goalkeeper, isn't necessarily good enough

U15s finished runners-up at the Poolfoot Cup, organized by Fleetwood Town. Matches were 25 mins long & all played today.

Group Stage:

0-2 vs Stoke
0-0 vs Liverpool
2-0 vs Birmingham
1-0 vs Hearts
3-0 vs Boro

SF: 1-0 vs Celtic

Final: 1-1 vs Liverpool - lost on pens

That's great. :)

Glad we seem to be doing well at so many different youth levels. Congratulations to the U14's.

Kai Rooney and Edson with the late goals, 2-0 win. Rooney scored in the North semi, North final and in the National final.

Can’t really see the finish but here’s Edson 2-0 goal in the last second of the game.

There seems to be a few in this age group doing good things. Looks like we’re building from the ground up well after the restructuring a few years ago too. Positive signs for a core ethos of the club.

Based on footage from like u12 matches (when Ronaldo Jr was there), EDS was a #8 midfielder right? I remember being very impressed by his technical ability. And somebody clarified that JJ Gabriel was actually a year younger than his teammates, which made him all that more impressive than he already was.

Yes JJ's still u13 but plays with u14 and u15.

I think given his talent and hype, it might be difficult to keep him.

Why? We have just won almost everything at U18s level. We have a great track record in giving young players chances in the first team and developing them well.

Chelsea and City are super aggressive in their recruitment at that level. We aren’t, that’s why I’ve a doubt.

And how many academy players have we lost to them?

Plus we are, we just signed Amass & Fletcher brothers (from City) who are all U17s internationals.

Not as aggressive as them though.

City have got eight in u17 squad and at least four moved in the last season, that’s my point.

I'd like us to be more agressive in recruitment in under age sections

Guess that’s fair, although Fitzgerald and Lacey would be there in they weren’t injured.

Still don’t think all of that gives us any worries in terms of keeping our most talented youngsters at the club. We very, very rarely lose any of them.

I also like the fact that we don’t stockpile players. All our players get a fair chance on the pitch. That’s one reason a lot of players/parents also choose us instead of City.

For example Whatmuff is an interesting choice for the squad. Played two games in the U18 Premier League this season.

But how many of those players have they recruited from other clubs in the last few years ? (I have no clue)

Nice reward for the U14s, they played an intra squad game at Old Trafford today. United won. Unless they drew.

Edit: Apparently it was a mix of U13s/U14s/U15s.

According to DailyMail we've signed Camron Mpofu from reading. Scotland u15.

Impressive. Especially when you think about the fact that our defensive crisis didn’t really affect it that much.

Seen both U14s and U13s mentioned, but our academy team will play at the Bassevelde Cup in the Netherlands this weekend.

We’ll face Schalke, Club NXT (Club Brügge academy) and Royal Antwerp in the group stage.

The tournament is packed with big clubs. Dortmund, Real Madrid, Feyenoord, PSV, Manchester City, Anderlecht etc.

Match length 2x15min.

Saturday 25 May
09:10 BST United vs Club NXT
11:50 BST United vs Royal Antwerp
14:45 BST United vs Schalke

It's an U13 tournament but our squad is a mix of U12s & U13s. 3 members of the squad were also involved in the U14 final last week.

Won our first game 2-0 against Club Brugge.

0-0 draw against Schalke in their last group game. Topped the group and will play Lille in the QFs later this evening.

Alan Nixon say we want Igor Tyjon of Blackburn.
Simon Jones say we are leading the chase for Dipepa.
