Miscellaneous Reserve/Youth News

Yea, I don't understand that lineup. Based on their squad numbers, seems like Missin is playing as a defender and Amass is playing as a winger? Surely not?

Only just came back to see that terrible miss by Wheatley.

Good goal by Missin now. Wheatley makes amends for his miss by teeing him up. Great work by Amass to start off the move in the first place.

Most of the youngsters have unsurprisingly done well. Curley has struggled this half and capped it off with the short backpass setting up Boro's goal back

Missin and Amass have done well and both involved in the first goal. Wheatley missed a very good chance when through

Baumann wasnt someone I saw as at the same stage as the likes of Amass and Missin but he had a decent half and doesnt look out of place at this level at all

2-1 to us at half time. Our 2nd goal was an own goal that was turned in from a cross by McNeil. They got one back right before half time through a terrible back pass from Curley.

Frustrating to concede such a soft goal on the stroke of half time to let them back in it.

But good first half and, as has been said, good performances from the likes of Amass, Missin and Baumann. Oyedele too, and McNeill has worked hard up front.

Could have been two straight reds for their players for reckless tackles on Amass. Can’t help but think we’re seeing more injuries than necessary at this level due to refs not protecting players in what’s essentially a meaningless tournament.

Two lunging tackles on Amass within 5mins from the Boro players. They are roughing him up.

3-2 down caught on the break, Murray left on his own vs the attack and his attempted tackle deflected the ball past Harrison. Think AJ Mathews scored against us for Boros 18s team too. I remember the name at least

3-2 loss after 2-0 up

Amass was our best player looking very comfortable running the ball down the left. Also tracked back at times. Baumann was 2nd for me and the biggest surprise. Several nice runs through the middle and decent effort at goal. Both looked good players for the u21 level based on this match. Charlie McNeil also showed some speed to get get into good positions at times

Thwaites looks an exciting technical player from his cameo

Defending especially from breaks, the Curley mistake with the back pass and not taking chances like Weatley when through on goal cost all 3 points

Disappointing result. That silly mistake from Curley on the stroke of HT probably the biggest turning point - though, as stated, we defended poorly when being broken, and missed a few chances as well.

Good to see Amass performing well at U21 level. And Baumann as well.

No Ethan Williams in the squad - I wonder if he's injured, or if it means he'll play for the U18's tomorrow away at City (or, with Forson's injury adding to the rest, maybe even provide cover in the senior squad)?

Started watching from the 44th minute, so obviously I am to blame for the loss...

The second half was very poor. Apart from the one Baumann effort I can't recall any attacking threat.
Odeleye seems to have regressed.
Amass was our best player and Baumann wasn't far behind. McNeil was lively and quick, but nothing really happened. The rest were rather anonymous.

For the first time (maybe ever?) I turned the TV off. It was just so boring and uninspiring. I think PL really has to do something about the U21 league, I swear, the players aren't even motivated.

The pitch is awful. And you can't blame the players if they don't progress on that environment. I swear if you bring the whole U18s XI to the U21s it will be the same (there are already 4-5 yesterday). You don't even play much on that league. What the hell is the PL thinking?!

U18s 1-0 down at HT. to be fair to the lads they have really dug in and shown great character in what was a difficult half. All to play for 2nd half

2-0 chasing shadows 2nd half and on the ropes, need to keep their heads and hang on hete

Disappointing result but to be expected really. Missing so many players, playing with only one natural CB & don't even have a single fresh player on the bench.

The key now is how the group responds. Title is still very much ours to lose & there's also potential revenge in the cup final.

Sam Mather scored the 2-2 equaliser against Oxford today. First start, full 90 minutes and his first senior goal.

James Scanlon's younger brother Luca Scanlon, also in the Man Utd youth system, has been called up by the Gibraltar U16 team for a development tournament against Iceland, Lithuana and the Faroe Islands this week:

We've got Zach Baumann.
Did not realize he was Ukrainian!
That's understandable, as he was born and raised in England and seems to be listed as English in places so far.

But he qualifies for Ukraine through a parent, and there's been talks he might be opting to represent them similar to Oyedele playing for Poland and Ibrovic-Fletcher recently opting for Serbia.

Totally expected someone named Silva Mexes to be the son of Robert earnshaw
