Miscellaneous Reserve/Youth News

Based on last nights game alone...Thought Forson looked very talented, but more flash than substance, needs to learn that the simple option is often the best option.

Mather was the lad who impressed me most, looks a very classy young player, the 8 impressed me also.

Are they playing Charlton live tonight?

Ollie Kilner has captained the 2004 group for the last 6 years. They seem to be missing his drive as he is recovering from a broken leg sustained at Blackburn towards the end of last season.

Will be curious to see what's our U18s XI will be like especially after the foreign lads get their clearance...

Even without Greenwood, Elanga and Mengi, those are the options:

GKs
Hughes/Neville - Bejger/Hardley/Gallagher-Allison - Fish/Hockerhull - Devine/Dogdson
Mejbri/Savage/Svidersky - Haygarth/Helm - McCann/Iqbal/Forson
Mejia/Stanley - Shoretire/Sotona
Hoogewerf/Emeran

A bit too much in terms of numbers for sure. Hopefully Mengi and Elanga get a lot of U23s game times so the younger lads can fill in.

When will the new U18 players get their international clearance? September?

EFL-trophy game on Tuesday away to Rotherham. Will be really interesting to see who plays. Very tough game for our kids, especially when our season hasn't started yet.

Last few years I think we’ve had a few that have had to wait till October, could be wrong though.

Worst I can remember was Regan Poole who didn't get cleared until February. So over 5 months. Made all the more ridiculous as he was coming from a club in the English system. Absolute farce tha was.

Class of 2019 is the new Class of 92'

Gomez, Chong, Garner, & Greenwood!

I read somewhere the Mejia kid scored 52 goals for 29 games last season for Zaragoza. That was amazing. Are you sure Shoretire will play U18 reguarly? He is an exciting player too. Not to mention that Hannibel is joining as well. A lot of talents to watch next season.

Yes Shoretire hasn't been involved with the U16s at all in pre-season, while Forson did.

Is the EFL game going to be on TV anywhere?

I'm slightly surprised. Why is Alex Fojtìcek going on loan to the 7th tier of English football, at Stalybridge Celtic ?
I don't see the point of us having so many keepers on the books, just for the sake of doing so.

Three years ago, Dean Henderson sat on the bench for Stockport in the sixth division. Three years later he starts for a Premier League team. It's a good experience for him and he probably wouldn't be first choice for the U23 anyway. Woolston is the reserve keeper and one they have as a backup so they can loan out keepers with a brighter future.

Has Mejia definitely signed? I thought betis denied it?

This route isn't uncommon for keepers. Jordan Pickford went into non-league initially too. Keepers can only play a single position and keepers getting substituted is very rare. It's harder to find game time than an outfield player.

Anyone know the squad for later?

Manchester United must rate Hannibal Mejbri high enough to spend such an amount to get him to England from Monaco. The 16-year-old joins the likes of Dillon Hoogewerf, Lukasz Bejger, Mateo Mejia and Bjorn Hadley as the foreign recruits for the current batch of the Under-18 squad. -- TheHardTackle.com

transfermarkt.co.uk also list Mateo Mejia as a United player now. Signed on 1 July for 3 years. So looks promising.

New deals for Paul Woolston and Luca Ercolani.
Johan Guadagno (GK), Dillon Hoogewerf and Mateo Mejia
Bjorn Hardley (Defender) and Hannibal Mejbri to join the club subject to FIFA approval.

How is this Mejia kid? Isn't he the same kid who is highly rated.
Will have to wait and see really. These foreign kids are always highly rated every year and while some come here and are great, others are actually bang average or even downright terrible. Learned to take these highly rated touts with a pinch of salt for most until we can see them play for ourselves.

I don't know how the U18s gonna line-up after all of those players confirmed (and the likes of Hughes come back from injuries). Too many players.

McCann - Mejbri - Helm sounds like lovely midfield options for the Youth Cup.

Would expect Hoogewerf and Mejia get first team spots, if not even promoted to U23s if they do well (considering they need a striker).

Don't forget Emeran either who we paid a sizeable fee for. He could play as a forward too but is a winger, currently injured though.

Yep. Only those who have watched them play a lot can give an accurate description, but that isn't going to be the case with these youngsters. Only one you can pretty much say that about would have been Cherki.

Young Dutch CB Bjorn Hardley signs for United as confirmed by his Instagram update below.

Seems like we are signing a large number of dutch youth players in recent years. How many young dutch players do we have now, including TFM and Chong? There is Hoogewerf and this lad, thats two more, I'm sure there was another lad too.

This. Its like a pre-requiste to label every youth signing as "highly rated" in the media.

Millen Baars?
