Mirko Vucinic

Pretty hilarious how annoyed people get at the very suggestion we might sign a player they don't want.

Wouldn't be unlike the club at all to bring in a player no-one expected but it won't be Vucinic.

Would really like this signing. Quite big, strong and can score a variety of goals.

Possibly happy to share being Rooney's partner with Hernandez too.

I will admit I have seen him play in maybe not even 10 games (including for Montenegro). But I have seen him in lots of higlights and I really do like the type of player he is.

Seems perfect for the PL too.

If he is the replacement for Berbatov I will be more than happy.

People get annoyed because it's clear we won't sign many more players and the thought of spending £15m+ on Vucinic is frightening.

What do you mean? He's the closest thing to Solskjaer in the game!

It's just rumours, there's fake quotes made up linking players to our club every summer...they needn't be taken seriously.

If Berbatov is replaced I will be more than happy.

Fixed.

Problem is it's so hard to evaluate what Owen could give you, since he's out for half a season every year, and if you sell Berba and Owen is injured, suddenly we look a bit thin up front. Still, we did give him a new deal so we must be hopeful on his fitness...

Like people here said, it won't be happening unless Berbatov is gone. And I don't think it is happening. He's a good player, actually, but it's a bit like Huntelaar. We keep getting linked with him for years and never more.

The main striker partnership will be Rooney-Hernandez so the likes of Owen, Welbeck, and Macheda will be benched (granted if Berba leaves). So even if Owen does crock up mid-season as per usual, we still have two very talented young strikers, one of whom just came back from an impressive loan spell.

This transfer makes no sense at all, assuming it is true of course.

We're already saturated with strikers and wingers and it just seems mind boggling that we'll spend yet another £15million while continuing to ignore our obvious weakness in CM. Even if he's supposed to replace Berbatov I would much rather keep Berba.

Hopefully he's not our last signing because you are right, central midfield needs addressing urgently. The longer Berbatov goes without been offered a contract the more likely it is he will go. Vucinic would be a good replacement as he can fill a couple of roles up forward.

The signing is not making any sense, unless we are going to sell Berbatov or use him as player exchange deal to harbour a move for sneidger or some other top class midfielder.

Hopefully we don't spend money on him and instead use that money to sign a central midfielder.

Makes sense. We have two bench strikers, which includes one that needs game time and confidence to find the net and is a year away from being out of contract. I reckon Macheda will go out on loan to Sunderland or something similar to see if he's going to cut the mustard, and i'm not sure about Welbeck maybe on loan again or something else, who knows.

Ideally you want 5 strikers in a squad. Hernandez, Rooney, Owen, Vucinic, Welbeck

Would be a solid strike setup. Don't forget at one point we had Ruud, Rooney, Saha, Ole and Smith all vying for spots. Almost of similar strength and all of them could find the next very regularly.

As Brad said before he left, Ferguson seems to be over his Berbatov love in.

Given how Hernandez played last season, if he doesn't think Berbatov is good enough on the bench to get over Owen, why are we paying him double his wage. Berbatov is a good player, but he needs to play almost every game and be the main man to get the great performances out of him. Given there's been almost no talk of a new contract from United's side i'd say they're looking out for offers.

I dont think we can take this one seriously and we can just about ignore what David Gill had to say there, as he also mentions that to get into our squad you have to be a world class player. As much as that'll boost Gibson's confidence, he's clearly in talking out of ass mode.

Buying Vucinic is fine, if we are selling Berbatov. But we aren't selling Berbatov. So at the moment, we have enough strikers.

We should focus on buying what we need.

This signing makes almost no sense to me, as plenty have said it only really works if we are planning on selling Berba....or maybe we have forgotten about the midfielder we desperately need and we are playing 2 in the middle and 6 up front....

Either way can we stop having meetings with players we have no use for and sign someone that we need.

Even if we sell Berbatov we have the players there to replace him. If you (roughly) spread the number of games he played last season out among Welbeck, Owen and to a lesser extent, Macheda, you have a very good frontline.

I dont get it. Why would his agent say that he held a meeting with a club? Surely the club would have come out and rubbished it if infact it was agent bullshit?

It is club policy not to respond to such things. Given our propensity to be secretive about transfers, I think it is safe to assume that if an agent comes out with "I have held talks with United", he most likely hasn't.

Macheda and Welbeck are nowhere near as good enough as Berbatov. It would be a huge step down.

Agree with that but the only way they'll become good enough is by playing games for us. I just don't see the point in buying a second rate striker like Vucinic when we could trust the young players we have.

Vucinic = Very effective sub to bring on from the bench.

This is why he will be a much better option than Berbatov.

Transfer makes so much sense to me. Berbatov still not offered a new contract therefroe he will be gone before September 1st.

I have forseen this

Vucinic is a very good player. Technically he's a joy to watch, but he's fecking inconsistent (a little bit like our Berba). If Berba is sold, Vucinic would be a good replacement because he can play in every position upfront. The problem is that we would have too many brilliant attackers where our problem for the past three years has been our midfield.

The very fact his agent said he had a meeting with United's representatives points to his agent creating an auction for his player. I have heard United get agents and player to sign a memorandum of understanding keeping all negotiations secret until everything is concluded.

Because we're going ATTACK ATTACK ATTACK! When there's no value in the CM position, we flood forward with strikers! The ol' 5-5 formation:

-----------------De Gea-----------------
Rafael--Smalling---Rio-----Vidic------Evra
Nani---Rooney---Vucinic--Hernandez--Young

On the subject of "what agents say..."

News: Porto have turned down a staggering €80m bid for Brazilian striking ace Hulk from an undisclosed club, according to his agent.

Not to take away from this thread, but I really don't see what the fuss is with Hulk, beyond the name. He's never impressed me on a level where I thought he'd make it to the next level. A poor man's Brazilian version of Tevez with a left foot.

Story started by his agent obviously. His agent tells United, hey my guy is available and United being polite say yeah he is a good player and we keep our options open.

Agent tells the world United are considering him - hoping to drive up any transfer amount.

Good player. He's versatile and has a lot of ability... Would be a great signing for any club.

Juventus are on the verge of completing a deal for Mirko Vucinic from Roma worth a reported €15million (£13.2m).

The 27-year-old will have a medical at the club on Monday before wrapping up a four-year deal.

Premier League clubs Blackburn Rovers, Manchester United and Tottenham had all been linked with the striker during the summer.

"Vucinic arrived in the city last night and will undergo his medical today," said a statement on the Juve's official website.

No problems are anticipated with the Montenegro international's fitness and he will be announced as a Juventus player should he pass his medical.

Vucinic has scored 46 Serie A goals in three years and will be the third striker Juve will sign if the deal is completed.

I read a comment from someone from Roma the other day that they don't want him to leave. If so, and given that they're cash rich, why is he off for such a (relatively) low fee to one of their rivals?
