Mirko Vucinic

Much more expensive ones too. Zarate would probably cost more than Tevez. Pato would cost even more. Quagliarella's just after moving. Cassano has his problems, not cut out for a top club.

No idea about Balotelli actually.

If we are so cash strapped then it would be better not to spend money at all and rely on Wellbeck/Macheda.

There's a difference between being strapped for cash and being financially prudent.

Spending £15m on Vucinic would be the latter. Spending £20m+ on Zarate and Quagliarella probably wouldn't be.

Can you see e.g. Eto'O, Villa sitting on the bench happily?
I'm pretty sure whenever Fergie signs a player, he'll tell him what his role will be at Manchester United. If fit enough only two players were guaranteed to start last season: Vidic and Ferdinand. Not even Ronaldo and Rooney have played every single game, let alone Berbatov.
If a player, no matter how good he is, doesn't get along with our 'rotation policy', especially considering a club of the stature of United has about 60-70 games to play a season (and that's not even taking internationals into account), he should stay away. Do you personally think Berbatov is happy with being rotated? Rooney? Ronaldo? I don't think so, but they hardly ever (or in some cases never) tell that to the media like Tevez did about 54 times in a week. We'll sign a player who is good enough for United (Vucinic isn't IMHO, but it's just my own opinion and if Fergie decides to move for him who I am to judge) and accepts being rotated, no matter how good he is. That's why I guess we're looking out (hopefully) for someone like Benzema, who possesses the quality to become a world-beater, is still young and unproven at a 'big club' (though Lyon are a very decent side in Europe) and therefore would most probably accept not starting every game automatically.

Quagliarella was sold to Napoli for around 16m. Cassano (who is rated a much better player) is around 17 and Lazio had paid 20m this season to sign Zarate . I wouldn't mind spending that extra 5m for a much better player.

Anyway Vucinic's best games came on the left flank and not a striker. So it would be safer to compare him to Nani, Ronaldo etc rather then Tevez, Rooney etc.

So you think that at United he will be given that consistency that Roma couldn't afford giving him? Is Rooney/Berbatov worse then Totti/Montella/Baptista?

Mutu at Chelsea was a complete failure and he was/is still rated as a much better player then Vucinic. Stating that the EPL game is totally different game to the Serie A so he may end up making a hit at OT.

What I'm telling you is that his consistency can be worked on. Under SAF I think he would develop into a much better player, he has all the tools.

Mutu in his first season was not a failure.

There's only one Roma player I'd like at United and it sure isn't Vucinic.

Most probably someone who looks like KEN... barbie's bf

Why are people considering Berbatov our first choice striker?

If we sign E'too or someone,Berbatov will not start.

We are not going to sign Eto'o, Villa etc

Vucinic would be a perfect addition, can play out left and put Rooney back up top. Got 17 last season and is an all round cracking player.

De Rossi is a lifer, will do anything for Roma.

Spurs battle Manchester United for Roma striker Mirko Vucinic

Tottenham Hotspur are ready to offer £17million plus Roman Pavlyuchenko for Roma striker Mirko Vucinic, according to reports in Italy.

Manchester United are also interested, but the offer from Spurs would be well above what they were looking to spend on the Montenegro striker.

The Italian club's financial problems and uncertainties over when a takeover will be materialise mean any transfer in or out is currently on hold.

But Roma are prepared to listen to offers for Vucinic and former Arsenal forward Julio Baptista, according to Italian newspaper Il Messaggero, and hope to move them on before the end of July.
Roman Pavlyuchenko

Manager Luciano Spalletti is keen to sign Pavlyuchenko and hopes to land the Russia international on loan if a the Vucinic transfer cannot be agreed. However, they face competition for Pavlyuchenko from Villarreal, Stuttgart and Besiktas.

Vucinic, 25, has been on United's radar for the past two years after he scored against them in the Champions League quarter final back in 2007.

He is 6ft 1ins tall, quick and has the ability to play left wing as well as a central striker which would suit United following Ronaldo's sale and Carlos Tevez's impending departure.

Sounds like complete bullshit.. Is Vucinic really worth £27M? Because IMO Roman Pavlyuchenko is atleast worth £10M.. In any case the sum is not what is important.. I think Vucinic is SAF's secondary target.. But it makes no fecking sense cause just recently he signed a new contract..

A fantastic siging for Spurs if true, but £17million plus Pavlyuchenko is a bit too much.

Roma want to keep Vucinic

Mirko Vucinic wants to stay at Roma amid interest from Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur, according to his agent, Alessandro Lucci.

The 25-year-old Montenegro international is coming off his best ever season in Giallorosso. He scored 17 goals in 38 appearances in all competitions.

“Mirko is very happy to stay with Roma, he renewed his contract a little while ago. He is happy, the club is happy, so as of today there aren't indications to suggest we'll see Vucinic far from Roma,” Lucci told romanews.eu.

“The club has never said anything to me. Roma have never started anything, actually to me they said that they want to keep all the important pieces and Vucinic is one of these.

“I wouldn't know what to say about the sale of Mirko. I don't know if they are rumours or something concrete. No one has contacted me.

“There is interest on behalf of some teams from the Premier League, but no one has ever called anyone.

“Roma have a competitive and important project. They want to be great again in Italian football and return among the top clubs in Europe and I don't believe they will deprive themselves of their important pieces,” Lucci concluded.

Roma will bite their hands off at that price, straight swap for Pavlyuchenko wouldn't actually be that bad, throw in extra £17m and you've got an amazing deal.

Italian press claim Ferguson and Benitez are ready to lock horns

Italian newspaper Il Corriere dello Sport claims that Manchester United and Liverpool are leading the chase for AS Roma striker Mirko Vucinic and that a bidding war for the Montenegrin international looks a likely outcome. The publication also claims that Tottenham Hotspur's Harry Redknapp is monitoring the situation should Sir Alex Ferguson and Rafael Benitez decide to pull out of negotiations.

The striker, who signed a new contract extension only last month, is thought to be happy in the Eternal City but could find himself the victim of his club’s poor financial state.

The report suggests that Liverpool have made indirect contact with Roma as boss Rafael Benitez tentatively weighs up partnering Vucinic with Spanish hitman Fernando Torres. The news comes off the back of an enquiry last summer from Old Trafford which was eventually turned down, a scenario that appears unlikely to repeat itself following Vinico Fioranelli’s failed takeover and the continued instability at boardroom level.

Indeed this week sporting director Daniele Prade reported to Il Corriere dello Sport that no player’s future with the Giallorossi was secure.

"I cannot guarantee that certain players will stay," he stated.

Vucinic is thought to hold a value in excess of €23 million and could be followed out of the door by midfielder Daniele de Rossi who is set to move to Real Madrid.

Give me Huntelaar or Eto'o ANYDAY. Outrageous he should be worth 23 mill. If we sign him for that much we'll be a laughing stock and we really would be out doing ourselves when it comes to over paying.

Roma Will Not Consider Offers For Mirko Vucinic - Report
The former Lecce star's future will not be decided until the season is over...

Apr 8, 2010 5:26:00 PM

Roma have received no bids for Mirko Vucinic, according to forzaroma.info.

Yesterday it was reported that two English Premier League giants from the same city, Manchester United and Manchester City, have taken a strong interest in the Montenegro international.

However, the Giallorossi have made their stance clear - no concrete offers have arrived for the player and at this time, in the midst of the title race, they would not be considered.

The 26-year-old currently has a contract with the club until 2013, but the club are hoping to offer him a contract renewal in May. He has been a key figure in Roma's resurgance this season with 10 goals in Serie A.

He's been very good against Norway today and scored a brilliant goal.

I'm really not sure about him I think he is a good player, but I don't know about buying him, doesnt seem like something we need, nor is it something that is guaranteed to succeed but yeah he is a good player.

Saw him a couple of times for Roma this season. Good player but unimpressive goalscoring record and he often takes the greedy route. Seen his team mates having a go at him for trying to do it all himself, several times.

£26m striker holds talks with United & Arsenal - reports

Mirko Vucinic offered to Manchester United & Arsenal for £26m, according to reports

The agent of Roma striker Mirko Vucinic has been in England to hold talks with Manchester United and Arsenal over a proposed transfer, according to Sky Sport 24.

Vucinic, 27, scored on 10 occasions in 33 appearances for the Serie A club last season, but his future at the Stadio Olimpico has been in doubt for a number of months.

The Montenegro international is said to be keen to secure a move in order to find regular first team football and has been linked with Liverpool, Tottenham and Blackpool in the past.

But it would appear he has his sights set even higher with United and Arsenal allegedly interested in his signature, but the Barclays Premier League rivals may be put off by his hefty £26 million price-tag - reports Sky Sport 24.

Given Vucinic's age, this supposed valuation is unlikely to appeal to either United or Arsenal, with the two clubs more likely to focus on acquiring players with a potentially greater sell-on value.

Arsenal are known to be in the market for a goalscorer this summer and, besides Vucinic, they have inevitably been linked with numerous potential signings.

Internacional's Leandro Damiao is supposedly on the Arsenal radar, while Karim Benzema has an admirer in Arsene Wenger.
