Seeing as I don't play Football Manager and don't watch much European football I tend not to start this sort of thread but I've heard this bloke mentioned a few times now, most recently on the Guardian podcast.

Was excellent at Metz, winning the League 1 young player of the year. Signed by Lyons last summer but his debut season was messed up when he broke his leg. Has apparently been handed Juninho's shirt this season and has been allocated his role as play-maker. Started off the season in great form, with a couple of goals, including a Juninho-style free-kick.

Still only 19 years old.

Discuss.

You have said it all Pogue, the guy is Juninho's natural successor. His visions is outstanding and he also is a grafter, works really hard. One to surely watch for the future but not at United since he'll cost very expensive.
In general United will never sign promising players from Lyon

Already?

Has he got as much hype around him in France as, say, Benzema did last season? Or would he be more at the level of Anderson/Nani when we signed them?

His potential is huge, why would Lyon want to sell him for something cheap when he could become a superstar for them.

If someone really wanted him that badly they would have to pay the money, much like United did when buying Rooney at such a young age.

That and Lyon always make a lot of money on transfers.

Of course, his hype is huge right now and by the end of the season it'll get close to Benzema's.
In general, we probably by any players from Lyons because the good enough ones are so overpaid

All good points.

It's just that he's not a name you hear mentioned all that often (he didn't even have his own thread on redcafe!) so I was wondering if he was an example of someone who might still be a bit below the radar and not quite as over-priced as some of the more hyped youngsters out there.

It seems I may have under-estimated his profile!

I think the fact that he signed on the dotted line with a club who has Aulas as chairman/owner resulted in this.

If he stays at Lyon for 3-4 seasons and performs extremely well, he could go for 30m+ depending on how hard Aulas plays with potential suitors.

Spot on. Definitely one of my favourite ligue 1 player, young and very clever. He's ridiculously good for a 19 year old playmaker. He has everything a midfielder needs to have. He'll be better at 20 than juninho ever has been. He's a bit slow, which makes him remind me of Riquelme.

Had to be done.

Must say, I've never actually heard of this guy. There are so many good young players in French football at the moment that it's a bit difficult to keep track. Is that Eden Hazard any good? He sounds like a dangerous player.

Hazard is overrated in my opinion, he was Lille's worst player in the past couple of games.

Pjanic is a monster, a genius, one of the brightest prospects in Europe at the moment. He has all it takes to become a great player, flair, technique, pace. If he gets to play more with Lyon this season, I think he may reach Gourcuff's level.

Lille has been shit in general so it's not really fair to say he was overrated. The kid is a great talent and needs to play in an attacking formation but Lille is just an awful team to watch at times.

Can you imagine if Yugoslavia still existed - Pjanic, Modric, Ljajic, Rakitic.

Fair enough. However I think he is more one-dimensional than Pjanic, and that he should still develop for at least a couple of years before a club like United decides to move for him. Pjanic on the other hand has that ability to invent skills since I first watched him with Metz.

Not only does he have everything a good attacking midfielder has, that is a good passing range, skills and an eye for the goal; this extra ability of making up moves to create space is peerless in France at the moment. On a side note, the only player who has had a bit of that creativity in Ligue 1 lately is Dejan Milovanovic from Lens, a relative of Ivanovic from Chelsea, but he is 28 already.

That would be deadly, on par with the likes of France. With Subotic at the back and Dzeko up front, it would have been a sight to behold for several years.

Behrami is a full Switzerland international, so except if you intended to add the likes of Bojan, Arnautovic, Marko Marin or Ibrahimovic to that list, it is not a good call indeed.

Pjanic was Luxembourgian when he arrived in France because that is where his parents emigrated at first but now I think he's playing for Bosnia.

All those players have Yugoslavian origins, but none of them were actually born in former Yugoslavian territory (with the exception of Marin).

Behrami was, and theres every chance that he would have represented Yugoslavia if it still existed today.
