Milan Jovanovic signs pre-contract with Liverpool

I didn't say you never criticise Serbian players, nor am I accusing you of gushing over every Serbian player ever. This isn't about individual posts where you've been ridiculously OTT about a player, because you don't tend to do that. What you do tend to do is defend Serbian players and praise them so that in the long run you come across as being a bit too pro-Serbian players.

That's not a problem, just means I take what you say about Serbian players with a pinch of salt

Fair enough.

I won't praise them for the sake of it.

I will defend them if theres something I don't agree with, i.e. 'he's shit'..

All done and dusted then. Looking forward to seeing him play after seeing him at the World Cup. Jovanovic on one side and Maxi on the other. Not bad for 2 freebies. Maybe Roy will play Kuyt as a forward now.

Pool fans on here. What do you think of Jovanovic so far?

Reading RAWK they absolutely love him already.. he is a player who is hard not to be liked given his crazy nature and work-rate.

Should have scored a goal tonight, but I cannot wait to see him score his first and to then see the post-match interview. Hoping its soon.

I'm confused. Are you a United fan or are you just a Serbian fan first and foremost?

Only seen him twice so my opinion may not be as valid as others who could have seen him a lot more but he just seems pretty average to me. Quite strong, no real stand out abilities that he seems to excel in. At the moment I see him as a kind of slightly better Voronin.

That's fair enough, which is why I asked Pool fans first..

He had some good link-up play with Torres tonight, so that might be something to watch out for.

I think he'll be a pretty effective player for Liverpool. He'll put in just as much selfless work as Kuyt does on the opposite side and he'll offer pace, power and natural width going forward. He can also fill in upfront when the perma crock Torres gets injured

Man I've said this so many times.

I support Red Star Belgrade.

I've followed United since Vidic has come here, and I like this forum which is why I've hung around this long..

Do you not like to follow any of your players from Iceland in foreign leagues?

He's a decent enough player but nothing special. He's the sort of player that will be a fans favourite because of his high work rate. Kuyt II.

Looks like he should be a good squad player, solid and will chip in with some goals. Not really quick enough for me, we are crying out for ball carrying wingers with pace.

Overall though he is very likeable and his attitude will carry him a long way with us.

MILAN JOVANOVIC admits he is already thinking about quitting Liverpool.

Serb Jovanovic signed on a free in the summer but is not happy at being a bit-part player.

He said: "I am starting to find the time dragging on.

"I'm a fighter but if things do not sort themselves out I will change club - even though it is too soon to think about it yet.

"I'm on form, I'm working hard and I have started eight competitive games.

"But I've not been in the starting XI for the last few matches - and I've not even come on as a sub."

The former Standard Liege forward, 29, added; "I have to adapt to a new system over here. I have to defend all the time.

"Just three or four teams in the Premier league play attractive football. The others set great store by commitment, discipline and defending.

"I miss Standard and the city of Liege."

That article is false, he already stated that those quotes are bollocks, usual Sun...

milan jovanovic is just desperate to end his anfield nightmare after just one season.

The serbia international has not featured since february 12 against wigan and won the last of his five premier league starts in the defeat at blackpool in mid-january.

Those are the only two matches the 30-year-old has featured in since kenny dalglish took over as manager from roy hodgson in early january.

Having been signed on a free transfer by rafael benitez in the summer, jovanovic then saw the spaniard leave anfield before he even arrived at the club.

And the former standard liege player admits he is lonely in england and feels the changes of manager have not helped his cause.

"if i would move to italy or germany i would be happier - my life would be nicer," he told sportske.

"in belgium, i was living in an area where there were so many people from serbia and my life was different, more dynamic.

"liverpool is such a different place. I'm here alone, without anybody. I'm just a very lonely stranger.

"if i wouldn't have my wife and my kids, i just couldn't speak serbian with anybody.

"liverpool is a club which you can't refuse; my only regret is that the coach who brought me to anfield left the club before my arrival.

"if benitez would have stayed at liverpool i believe everything would be different for me.

"there were 15 other clubs which followed me but i chose liverpool and made a mistake."

Say it ain't so?

He loves Liverpool

Didn't they have a decent offer for him at Christmas and he refused to go? £6m from Wolfsburg, if I remember correctly. They won't get that this summer.

Just read that he was on £120,000 for Liverpool

Has he been sold?

No about to be sold by Liverpool apparently.

Here's that excerpt from that article

The free signings Joe Cole and Milan Jovanovic, for example, earn £100,000 and £120,000 a week at Liverpool respectively, although the latter's astonishing salary includes a signing-on fee payable over the first 12 months of his contract. Cole made nine Premier League starts last season and Jovanovic five. Paul Konchesky, Christian Poulsen and Brad Jones, who cost £5m, £4.5m and £2.3m respectively and were also part of a disastrous transfer policy last summer, are surplus to requirements too but are liable to deter potential suitors with their salaries. Philipp Degen, Nabil El Zhar and Emiliano Insúa also remain on the payroll.

so he is on ~60k a week with a 3m signing on bonus.
Sounds a lot less crazy

That said, if liverpool sell him, dont they have to pay a 'loyalty bonus'. that'll be a few millions as well

the funnier story is Cole on 100k and a huge signing on fee

Can't wait to see him interviewed on Sky Sports.

Watched this on YouTube, noticed "Cantona " videos spent half an hour watching various goals and interviews with Eric. They were great days. What was this thread about again !

Try and flog alonso to get barry
fail
upset alonso
sell alonso the next summer
replace him with aqualani

B.R.B.T.P

Usually if you come on a free your salary gets a nice bumber but those numbers are absurd!!!

Knew he'd flop.

A mate of mine mentioned that he'd heard that Jovanovic has offers but won't accept them because Liverpool are refusing to make up the difference in his wages. Anyone know if that's the case?

They were stupid enough to hand him wages like that in the first place, so its their own fault...

...Its up to him if he wants to play though, he should just get his finger out & try & get in the team.. after all they're payin his wages & they're a good club... what more does he want!

Did they flog him in the end?

He really was useless.

Liverpool wasn't the right club for him. He isn't a bad player, but it just never worked for him there. He's scored in his last 4 games which isn't bad given he hasn't played first team football for the best part of a year.

In any case, his value in interviews is quality

Was he a Rafa signing? You don't have to be a bad player to see your value nosedive when signed by The Fat One. In fact many of his victims were good players at one time

Seeing as almost all of his signings didn't go on to do great things after leaving Liverpool (bar Alonso and Mascherano) I think it's more likely they weren't very good in the first place.

Better than Usain Bolt? :lol::lol:

They are trying to ban Jovanovic till 2016 (apparently) for the machine gun celebration. Unreal.

I've read it today and it's completely stupid. They are trying to make something out of nothing and it's only making it worse for the people of former Yugoslavia. Jovanovic did nothing wrong in my opinion, perhaps he was just trying to copy Batistuta? :)
