Liverpool set to sign Milan Jovanovic on free in summer
Rafael Benitez bolsters attacking options next season with Bosman signing of Serbia and Standard Liege forward

-----------------
Liverpool are set to agree a pre-contract deal with Milan Jovanovic, the Standard Liege and Serbia striker .

Sky Sports News reports that the Merseyside club are close to a deal for the 28-year-old, who is out of contract at the end of the season and has been able to sign a pre-agreement with clubs from last month.

Rafael Benitez, the Liverpool manager, has stepped up his efforts to bolster his attack after failing to sign Sunderland's Kenwyne Jones and has also been linked with a free signing in the summer of Marouane Chamakh, the Bordeaux and Morocco striker.

Reports suggest that Jovanovic is close to agreeing a three-year deal with an option for an additional 12 months after Liverpool offered guarantees that Benitez would stay on Merseyside beyond the end of this season. The manager has recently been linked to the Juventus post in the summer.

looks like Bruno has lost his tag as the prettiest player at Liverpool

Jovanovic is an interesting character, he should really have left Standard years ago but he has always been waiting on the 'right' transfer. He's one of those players who has bloomed late but on his day he is devastating. He had good games vs Arsenal in the CL and was impressive against Everton in UEFA Cup.

He can play as a striker but his best option is cutting in from the left wing (at least for Serbia). Can use both feet, good technique and is an explosive personality.

One of his famous quotes..

Everton aren't a big club. That club I have turned down already.

He is a really interesting character of the pitch, always having interviews and one thing is he is not afraid to say what is on his mind. Keane like in a way.

Thank feck he didn't. That would have been too much nuzzling for a straight viewer to bear.

If that was Keane doing that he would be idolized.

Check this quote out from RAWK. Says it all

Don't really know much about but looking at this video he looks like he likes taking on players in the box Stevie may get a few more spot kicks.

If vuc likes him, then he must be good.

Actually, I've confused the words 'good' and 'Serbian' again, haven't I?

Har-har.

I'm talking more about his non-football personality than anything else.

He is a good player though, nothing world class but he can be a real handful on form. Something wrong with that?

Nah, don't mind me, vuc, I was just teasing.

I saw him a couple of times for Standard, and he looks a good player. He'd be better if he was Irish though.;)

I still think I haven't seen the best of him. With better players around him he could be really good. Well I am sure as an Irishman you can appreciate his fighting qualities. :D

Was he nuzzling the other guys neck? I bet that's the first ever love bite given to another player in professional football.

Did he just say he should get to take penalties because he's the oldest player in the team?

Are you sure he's not a raging homosexual?

Yes but even then... everyone else is saying how indescribably gay that video you've posted is of him suckling on the other guy's neck, and you're painting him as some chest-beating warmonger rather than cock-loving bummer.

I said already it would have been better if he bit the neck...

I told you already he is an interesting personality, he said they had some agreement that he was to take the penalty and then Witsel decided that wasn't the case.

Not good enough for Shakhtar or Lokomotiv Moscow, but surely good enough for Liverpool. Scored some goals in Belgium. Who cares?

Has Benitez forgotten that he will be limited to 17 foreign over-21 players next year?

Standard have an enormous squad, don't they, it's as big as ours, only they're playing in fecking Belgium. No wonder they let him go.

Has Benitez forgotten that he will be limited to 17 foreign over-21 players next year?
Oh yes, can someone point me to the thread about that? His last three signings are Aquilani, Maxi and Jovanovic, in other words foreign squad players.

"As of next season clubs will be required to have a squad named of up to 25 players, of which no more than 17 can be over the age of 21 and not home grown.

"The definition of home grown is trained for three years under the age of 21 by somebody in the English and Welsh professional system.

Because I have a lot of time on my hands, here is the list of Liverpool's foreign players counting towards this quota:

Reina
Cavalieri
Aquilani
Agger
Shkrtel
Torres
Riera
Aurelio
Benayoun
Kyrgiakos
Maxi Rodriguez
Kuyt
Babel
Mascherano
Lucas
Degen
Plessis
El Zhar
Nemeth [out on loan]
Itandje [out on loan]
Mihaylov [out on loan]
Jovanovic [if signed]

Total: 22 (although quite a few of these players are just begging to be shipped out).

Note: N'Gog won't count for another year, as he wasn't 21 on January 1, 2010. Nemeth wouldn't have counted but for his loan to Greece. Oops!

Liverpool's Domestic players (counting with the above towards the limit of 25):

Gerrard
Carragher
Johnson
Insua
Spearing
Darby
Threlfall
Martin [out on loan]

Total: 30 (although, again, quite a few names are just begging to be shipped out).

So. They'll be allowed 17 foreigners. They have five decent non-foreigners (Gerrard, Carragher, Insua, Johnson and N'Gog). That's a squad of 22 footballers and three insignificant kids. If you look at the players they've used in the league thus far, they've only used 25, and about five of them are dross. So they won't be troubled by the new rule. (Only by their still poor squad.) Actually they don't even have 17 decent foreigners. This rule will mean feck all for Liverpool.
