Mike Phelan | Sacked by Hull. No shorts, no job.

Glad they put emoji in the tweet.

I actually thought Hull's performances were really good over the last few weeks. They deserved to win comfortably away to West Ham. Anyway, I guess it is a results game. Such a shame for him.

If any manager deserved time it was him. He squeezed a lot out of a little.

What exactly do Hull think sacking him will achieve?

They'll be relegated and he'd have been a good manager to get them straight back up

Harsh. No manager is keeping this Hull side in the division. At most other clubs you would assume they have got somebody more proven in the pipeline, but at Hull, not so much...

So the 3 teams above and below Sunderland have sacked their managers in the last few weeks. Moyes must be bricking it.

Seems he is only good at taking credit for Fergie's good work

He's not bottom and only 3 points away from getting out of the relegation show with that squad. There's no way they'll stay up with or without Phelan.

No one can keep them up anyway. They went into the season with about 12 players and signed anyone with a pulse before the window shut.

Are the owners still having a strop about the name change not going through?

They never wanted to give him the job anyway, hope he moves on and gets another more stable job.

I wonder who they think they're gonna get that will do better? Unai Emery's free isn't he?

Im a united fan but I live in hull and take my son to hull games so they're pretty much my second team. I'm disappointed by the sacking as the football has been quite encouraging recently even if results have been poor. Can't say I'm surprised by it though, there's a general feeling that they're going down, but a new manager might provide a slim chance. Hull were fecked by the summer's joke transfer activity and the bullshit surrounding the (non) sale of the club. Unless something miraculous happens I can't see anything but relegation anyway

Alan Hahahahah Pardew? Literally can't think of anyone else available.

Bob Bradley?

I'd take Guidolin over both of them any day. Be very surprised if any of these names could get themselves very excited about Hull though...

It's a weird one, in my opinion he shouldn't have gotten the job in the first place. The first 3 games were blatantly flukes given how poor the squad was. Then after that they were absolutely awful but he was appointed full time for some reason. The last few weeks they've actually been alright, just haven't been picking up as much points as they should have. Seems an odd time to sack him, given performances now compared to 2 months ago.

:nono: In his bubble, he's probably thinking he has 4 (?) year to make Sunderland a CL team :wenger:

Back to topic, didn't have time to watch Hull games, but in MOTM highlights, Hull played very well in recent weeks. It's only bad luck, individual error that cost them. For the squad they had, I think Phelan did a very good job. Hope they appoints a shite manager now and we revenge Phelan by thrashing them at OT in League Cup first leg, and afforded to rest in second leg playing youngster.

That's a bit harsh considering he's been doing well with what he has, at the start of the season and for about a month he only had 13 players fit or something.

Exactly! Everyone was predicting a Derby County proportions of a failure. I was under the impression he was doing quite well considering. Should have given him the window to buy a player or 2

The Sunderland owner has given up though.

Moyes tends to have that effect on people.

Yeah probably thinks he's doing a great job, he got a draw the other day you know. But as he's not German he didn't get praised for it or some nonsense.

Gary Rowett would be a good shout, someone needs to hire the poor cnut.

Favourite with the bookies by a long way so looks likely... I'd still like to see Harry redknapp back for one last transfer window (no doubt straight in for kranjcar) and some general window wound down wheeler dealer antics on deadline day

Harsh I think, and a shame for him. Not really sure who'd do a better job with what they have. The timing was certainly odd.

No idea what the club expected him to do with that squad.

Wonder if they might take a punt on Monk, who's doing a decent job at Leeds.
