Miguel Veloso

You can (and must) have quality cover for your first team but no one, not even Chelsea can cater for an injury crisis of that proportion. We dont need Veloso. We currently have Gaz - Vidic - Rio - Evra as first team, 4 Internationals as covers (Wes, Mickey, Evans and OShea) and another 4 promising talent (Bardsley, Pique, carthcart - simpson) as third line

You do know he is a Central Midfielder, he would only ever be a defence cover a bit like Keane was!

In fairness, he's played a lot of football as centre-half. But he is definetly no left-back.

Yeah but he now plays as a holding midfielder and is playing very well in that position (as far as I have seen), so I can only see him covering them positions for back up and that's even more credit to him for being versatile.

No he won't. All he and Evra have in common is being left-footed. He's a central defender or defensive midfielder. He may well have played left-back before, due to him being left-footed, but his assets are suited to the middle.
Maybe you right. But as far as I know he is comfortable in any position on the left of the pitch. Be it wide or central and is young enough to make a position like left back his own. But I love him in midfield. As I've said many times before. He reminds me of Petit. I wouldn't mind letting one of my favorites (Fletcher) go to accomodate him.

Veloso ?

I thought we'll be after Joao Moutinho after his appereances in senior Portugal team.

Sporting have a full bunch of talented youngsters and I can see Queroiz supporting that kind of transfers.

It's very possible that we will see Veloso at Old Trafford in one or two years.

Sporting United!

Veloso's versatility is a big plus, but unlike Sheasy he's talented enough to become first choice in his favored central midfield position. I really hope we sign this lad. Future Portugal captain.

I really don't know much about this player... is he defensive midfielder ? He's kinda look like one.

He's usually refered to as a defensive midfielder, but he's got a good engine and he likes to use that superb left foot of his for shooting as well as creative passing in the final third.

Sounds like a deadly player with his good height.

True, he'l probably captain them one day. They also have one truly amazing young central defender in Da Costa, he was totally flawless in the U-21 championship in the summer, he had it all.

I just chucked Veloso into my PES6 team and he scored a class long ranger vs Arsenal. He was playing at LB as well

Sign him up Fergie

Yes, Da Costa was might impressive. elegant, quick of pace and in the tackle, and had a good reading of the game.

superb player

Arsenal aim to beat Man Utd for £20M Veloso

Arsenal are planning a major bid for Sporting Lisbon midfield ace Miguel Veloso.

While Manchester United are following the Portugal international, O Jogo says Gunners boss Arsene Wenger is prepared to offer £20 million in January for the youngster.

United have a close relationship with Sporting, but if they want to land Veloso, they will have to match Arsenal's bid when the market reopens.

£20m ? Madness.

Clearly newspaper bollocks. Arsene Wenger won't pay £20 million for anyone.

Why so pleased? That midfield is not even close as good as the one we have at the club right now.

I had never noticed Miguel Veloso before the match against Sporting the other week. I was really impressed - thought he was the best player on the pitch that night.

Veloso linked with Prem move

Miguel Veloso's agent claims an English side has come close to matching the Sporting starlet's release clause.

The 21-year-old defensive midfielder is a rising talent in Portugal and both Manchester United and Arsenal have been credited with an interest.

Although Veloso has a £20million release clause in his contract, his agent Paulo Barbosa says a club from England has bid near that mark.

Should the youngster's clause be met he could be the latest in a long line of talents to leave the country, such as Cristiano Ronaldo, Nani and Anderson, who have all joined The Red Devils.

"There have been several contacts and several offers from England," Barbosa told the News of the World.

"I won't name the clubs but one of them was not far from his buy-out clause.

"If there's agreement from Sporting and the player, it's possible for him to leave.

"But there's no pressure or desire that it should happen yet."

The truth or just the usual agent bullshit?

Considering it will be near £20 million, I highly doubt this will be us with the bid, more likely Arsenal.

Well, we shouldn't have bought that overpriced sicknote in the first place...

"Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is stepping up his pursuit of Sporting Lisbon midfielder Miguel Veloso, although reports in Portugal suggest Ferguson may have secured first option when United signed their winger Nani."

(At the bottom of the article).

fantastic news, Miguel Veloso is the midfielder of the future, another great performance yesterday against Azerbaijan (M.O.M for me, with Ronaldo)

£20m is his release clause, not how much Arsenal will pay. Like how Nani's release clause was so high.

What about Moutinho?

Just a thought.

Maybe SAF has realised Hargreaves is way to injury prone and is selling him, in order to raise money to buy Veloso :D
