Michael Oliver

I praised him yesterday which now looks foolish. He's been horrendous.

Both sides should be down to ten men.

What a fecking shite referee. PL has the worst in the world... Him, Clattenburg, Mason.

Never a penalty in a million years but Rojo and Ibra should both have been sent off. Barry too after his 300th foul.

Yeah it was a very weird refereeing performance. Obvious red on Rojo, Barry should have been off within 30. Doubtful about Ibra and a very cheap pen.

To be fair, he was fairly consistent with trying not to give the cards away in that game. It wasn't right, Rojo should've been off, Barry too, probably, but he refused to give even the obvious yellows (quite a few, after that challenge by Cleverley on the edge of the box) and gave straight yellows for more blatant fouls.

Not saying that he has been good or even decent today, but such consistency is better than the referee who shows the red card on the first minute and then refuses to book other players, for example

he guesses though, or gives what he happens to fancy at the time

not gonna turn down any kind of late pen-giving opportunity, anyway is he? the hopeless bellend

(I haven't seen it)

Why should Barry have been sent off? Not every foul is a yellow - that is the exact kind of culture we should want out of the game.

The first should have been a yellow but the referee wanted to show leniency early on. Next two weren't yellows. Finding a case to give him two yellows is stretching and riddled with bias IMO.

Deliberate handball is always a yellow card surely?

Come on the fecking handball was a clear yellow, then he fouled 20x after that. He was just terrible.

The first was definitely a yellow. A yellow is typically your last warning, but if you've gotten an early yellow, then it's your own fault really. There was a handball, which looked intentional to me, and it topped us from breaking. That should really be a yellow as well. Then when he was finally booked, he made another challenge which stopped us from breaking.

It was a poor performance overall from Oliver, but I don't think we can feel aggrieved, because Rojo should have had a straight red, no question. Zlatan could have gone, but Zlatan knew exactly what he was doing and that he was out of sight of the referee and the nearest assistant. If there was an assistant on the near side of the pitch from where he dropped his foot on Coleman's head, then he could have been off as well. It was needless.

Penalty was soft, but I don't blame him for giving it or Gueye for playing for it. If you're up against an oaf who is going to stick a leg out like that in the area, then there's no footballer in the world who isn't going to go over it.

Poor refereeing, but it didn't cost us. For the first time in a few weeks, we probably got a bit of luck in terms of what was given and what wasn't.

It's an absolute stonewall penalty. Rojo was as clear of red card as you'll get. Barry should have been booked for the foul on Ibra. The handball probably doesn't happen if he already has a yellow, but he should have been booked for that.

If Barry had been booked early (which he should have been) then I very much doubt he deliberately handles later on in the half.

Those saying Barry should have been sent off are missing the point a bit. You can't say he would have committed the same offences if he had have been been booked after the first one instead of after the third. When he finally got booked i didn't think he did anything after that to merit a second yellow.

The penalty looks fair enough to be given to me. Gueye might have conned us, but he's done it very well. Fellaini shouldn't be anywhere near him, which he isn't actually, but you know what I mean.

Oliver is still a totally terrible referee.

And who's to say the break that Barry did stop with his deliberate handball wouldn't have resulted in a goal?

Barry would've played in a very different way if he'd been booked in the 10th minutes, which he should've been. Without him disrupting the game, maybe we create more?

Butterfly effect works both ways here.

Well yes i agree with all that. He should have been booked sooner

Barry still made a foul that prevented us from breaking after he was booked, which should have been a yellow. Him already being on a booking didn't prevent him from making that foul.

Fekking mystic meg over here.

What happens if he doesn't handball? Or commit the other 75 fouls because he is on a yellow?

Maybe Rojo doesn't do a hatchet if Barry got a yellow for his foul. Rojo may have read the ref to be shit and thought he'd chance his arm (legs)

Rojo should have been sent off, there's no question there regardless of whether a phantom foul occurred beforehand

It was very soft IMO. Though technically Fellaini stepped on his toe, but the leap from Guaye made it much more theatrical.

ah well... the toe is news to me -

I've got Fellaini's left knee going in & Gueye rolls (enthusiastically) across / off the leg, thereafter

there it is anyway, before it disappears on us

Can't believe there's some complaints over the award of the penalty. If that was not awarded against United you'd all be going mad (and rightfully so).

I hate Oliver, but that's a penalty IMO. Fellaini comes in and he catches the player on knee as well as his toe.

Yeah i dislike Oliver more than anyone here. But he called it right. Fellaini was clumsy and gave the referee a decision to make

Pretty much this. If you get an early yellow, you don't stick your hand out to block a counter attack. As played, you can't say he should be sent off because he took liberties that he wouldn't have been able to under other circumstances.

It's ridiculous to think 'oh, he did these 3 fouls, so they must add up' without even beginning to consider the workings of the match.

He had an absolute mare of a game from start to finish (although I do think it was a penalty). He set the tone by refusing to book Barry for anyting (deliberate handball, Ibra challenge) and the farce that was not sending Rojo off. That was Sunday league, leg breaker stuff. Just poor game management and decisions, should be bumped down a division for that. I'm just glad we have goal line technology, as you know that he would of got that wrong as well. Everyone is entitled to a bad day at the office though, mind you.

Another horrific refereeing performance but honestly can't say we came off worst from it. Rojo should have been off, saved only by the fact he didn't book Barry before it. He then gave Barry 3 yellow card offences until he booked him. And it was a penalty.
