Sheikh Mansor employee Michael Oliver is on VAR for the final

They probably won’t need him anyway. But we all know what’s happening if they do

Wish clubs would fight back on him getting involved with city games. It’s really fecking dodgy

Should INEOS be demanding Michael Oliver be removed from the officials list for the FA Cup final which is probably our biggest game of the season., I mean if the rumours that he has refereed matches in the UAE for City's owners are true doesnt him being on VAR for this represent a huge confict of interest?

It should be Ars and Pool fans kicking up the fuss. He's saved City vs Pool (not giving the last minute clear penalty) and Ars (not sending off Kovacic) so the league table so both Ars/Pool should be on +2 points (win instead of draw) and City should be on -2 (two losses instead of 2 draws).

Chelsea would have likely got to the final of the FA Cup too. Denied them a clear penalty from a Grealish handball

Great, if we somehow end up with a fighting chance he'll be there to make sure UAE gets what they want.

I'm kind of torn.

I'm perhaps naive enough to think that he and the others who have reffed out in UAE wouldn't intentionally give City favourable decisions, or teams that could affect City bad ones. There is unconcious bias though. We know that's a condition that human beings are suscepitble to.

To be honest, that can even go both ways. Some people may be aware that they could come across as biased towards one team due to certain circumstances and then go out of their way to prove they're not and end up giving bad decisions against that team. It's different, but lots of people have said Gary Neville does this when it comes to commentary/punditry, favouring non-United teams with the things he says because he might be afraid of being accused of being biased towards us. Over-compensating.

City absolutely wouldn't need to pay someone off to beat us to answer that question directly.

I think it might be better that he is nowhere anything to do with City or their rivals though, just from a PR point of view or else people are going to ask questions. I think it's natural people are going be worried about conflicts of interest given the circumstances. From that point of view he was stupid to accept referreing out there, as were the other other officals. At the same time I'm sure they were all paid handsomely so difficult to resist.

Do you think refs are infallible? Home crowds don't faze them? Managers talking to them doesn't effect them? Media does feck all?

You don't think that in a middle of the season, going abroad to get a lucrative extra paid gig and the people that pay you happen to be the owners of a club in the league is completely unrelated?

You don't think City benefit from the slightest of calls for them?

It really doesn't matter if it's true or not when it happened. The doubt will always be there and it will never go away. It's astounding that they didn't have the wherewithal to reject that kind of gig or that that the FA or PGMOL or even UEFA allow it to happen.

Barcelona had the best team many people say they’ve ever seen. Certainly a better side than this City team.

And they were still paying an off refs in La Liga - a league where 80% of the clubs are just there to make up the numbers.

It’s more that the conflict of interest means you simply just avoid him reffing City. It’s such a basic decision (PL ref has another paid job which is paid by City owners) purely to avoid unnecessary issues.

Then you add in he’s made 2 clearly incorrect calls vs both title rivals (which would have meant City were out of the race) and one in the game vs Chelsea to get to the final. He also randomly gave them that bogus penalty against us which never gets given and predictably hasn’t been given in any games since.

Excellent summary, as to why I signed the petition on Change to get him removed as the FA Cup Final VAR.

I wish I was naive as you are at times.

Refs have been corrupted ever since football has being played, why would it change in modern world where everything is about money? It doesn't have to be this particular game of course, but it's very possible that they are paying him in general, anyone who doesn't think it's a good possibility probably wasn't involved in any serious business in their life.

That’s my view as well. You cannot deny the obvious calls he’s given to City this season. Fans need to start realising these things aren’t happening by accident or by mistake.

Even outside the dodgy links, he's just a poor referee in general. For that alone, he should be nowhere near an FA Cup final.
