Mexico at World Cup 2014

Nah, he's a dude. He has a really hot friend though on Facebook.

Pics or gtfo...

On topic:

Tomorrow we'll see them vs Ecuador, tough rival, I hope both teams take this seriously and only use 3 subs.

I hope we get to see the Peralta - Dos Santos partnership.

Guillermo Ochoa,
Rafael Márquez, Maza Rodríguez, Héctor Moreno;
Paul Agilar, Andrés Guardado;
Gullit Peña, Héctor Herrera y Luis Montes,
Giovani y Oribe Peralta.

Thats close to a starting line up i'd like to see at the world cup.

I'd take out guardado for Layun, and Rodriguez for Reyes. Other than that i think the line up would be solid.

@margarito86 Piojo revealed the starting XI a couple of minutes ago...

Ochoa
Aguilar Rodriguez Marquez Moreno Layun
Herrera
Peña Montes
Dos Santos Peralta

Just get Reyes instead of Rodriguez and I'd say that's the strongest team they can get... I would like to see Jimenez get some minutes with that formation in the 2nd half, maybe subbing Montes so Gio can play behind both strikers...

yes!

Sorry i accidently put my reply within your quote in my last post (oops!).

Glad to see layun in there, my twitter says Guardado, but i was going to say, Reyes for Rodriguez and Layun for Guardado.. makes it a solid defense in my opinion. I like that Pena, Montes and Peralta already have some experience together - will make it easier to gel. Been doing some thinking and it scares me more.. i dont think these 3 games will be enough to get it going!

Horrific injury.

Sad thing is that the intensity that game was being played was unnecessary. Not sure what the coaches instructions were, but with these friendless, you shouldnt be going in the hard... So tough to see em out that way, especially after that class goal he scored. As sad as it was, if anyone in that play got injured, it was justly him.. He was a bit wreck-less. I guess Fabian will start now?

They called Aquino to fill the roster instead of Montes, also its still in the air the gravity of Marquez injury, there is a chance he had something broken in his feet. On the bright side Herrera and Guardado gave a pretty good game, so did Vasquez. Peralta have been missing the last two games and that is worrisome. Great news that at the very least, when everything else fails Mexico has some very good long distance shooters, Layun and Marco Fabian have a terrific long distance shooting.

guardado had a decent game, that was a great sign, but i dont think he will replace layun.

Also - i agree, if marquez is injured, they should really consider calling Miguel Herrera from pachuca, actually a pretty good CB

if Marquez is out of the world cup. there goes Mexico's defense and world cup. even with him Mexico barely has a decent defense, without him we are pretty much screwed.

Luis "Chapito" Montes caused that injury to himself, he always challenges like that for the ball with Leon, just been lucky before not to get injured or a red card.

well at least now Aquino will have a shot at the world cup.

good win and nice to see them now shooting outside the box.

Marquez brings good experience, but they just said there was no fracture, its more of a bruise, but they are going to have an MRI on his foot tomorrow.

I don't recall a Donovan joke. Didn't he urinate on the field at the Azteca?

But there was a female Mexican or Mexican fan on this board in the past.
At the Jalisco, he did.

I do remember that there was some guy from Monterrey a couple of years ago, but he doesn't post anymore... I think.

lived/studied 1 1/2 years in Guadalajara. Chivas vs Atlas was always entertaining  I am still rooting for you guys. I hope you can survive the group. I cant belive, that Marquez is still playing; shows what a great player he is/was.
What happend to efran Juarez; always thought that he might turn out decent?

His stint at celtic ruined him.

He actually had an amazing run in their preseason, some good games at the start of the season; then one day he never left the bench. Came back to America for a bit, then to monterey.. but never became relevant again.

Had an amazing work rate though when he was in his prime

I held Juarez pretty high, he was a bit of a revelation same as Barrera, but they both went missing with their european clubs after the WC (Celtic, Tottenham)
and now they are both garbage. I actually hate Barrera now, he somehow lost his balls after the WC. He can't challenge, dribble, cross or even run as he used to.

barrera was never in tottenham, lmao. he was with west ham, lol.

just another one the many of Mexican league players who as they say, "no dieron el estiron".

I am glad Mexico seem to be back on track, always like watching them at World Cup

And glad they still playing non British style of formations

I would cry if Mexico played 4-4-2 at a World Cup :p

Italian 3-5-2 is even more outdated than 4-4-2. In any case, I don't think that's the XI they're going to use. Dos Santos is was played as a striker last game, and Marquez as a CB.

Mexico plays with a 5-3-2 formation. 3 CB's, 2 winger-backs. The starting CB's will be Moreno, Marquez, and Reyes. Layún & Aguilar as wingerbacks.

Also the striker positions are still in the air. Though Herrera intends to play with Peralta (the striker he's most familiar with along with Jiménez), Peralta hasn't played well and Dos Santos hasn't had much time to settle in. I think Raúl Jiménez will eventually get the starting spot and Chicharito could claim his place in the starting XI if he plays well tomorrow against Bosnia (I hope he gets the full 90 minutes).

oh, haha yeah sorry, west ham it was...

brain fart:nervous:

tonight, Mexico vs bosnia. Piojo has named Chicharito in the starting 11, partnering with america's striker Raul Jimenez. hopefully a good game, free of injuries, and another win for Mexico.

then can't wait for match vs Portugal, the final test before the world cup.

The reason I dislike 4-4-2 is not because it is outdated, I just don't like the formation
I don't like to have 4 defenders, 4 midfielders and 2 forwards with 4 of the 10 outfield players being flank players and 4 of the 10 outfield playing cautious and defensive
If you have 4 defenders then I would only want to have 2/3 midfielders and 3/4 forwards
My personal choice is 3 defenders, 4 midfielders and 3 forwards because that leads to optimum balance for a team

well, that game gave Piojo more concerns than answers unfortunately.

looks like Herrera has won his place in the starting 11 unfortunately due to Montes injury. Gullit still looks tired and out of rythm, same as Chicharito. defense is non existent without Marquez.

game vs Portugal Piojo better utilize his starting 11 for the world cup, needs to see them at least once before the first match vs cameroon.

oh and who knows who will be Oribe Peralta's partner in the world cup.

What is your obsession with 3 at the back?

Mexico 0 - 1 Portugal

Mexico was the better team overall but lost in the end like always with a set piece. team looks very good physically but still lacking in attack and creative plays. defense is decent with Rafa. it looks like the midfield has been sorted out with Marquez playing more of a Sweeper role behind Gallito Vazquez with Herrera and Guardado supporting him on the wings.

unfortunately seems Gullit is still tired and missing Montes. I think Giovani will be paired up with Peralta although he seems to get lost in the games and Chicharito becoming the first sub to try to score vs tired defenders ala manchester united.

I only saw the 2nd half but Mexico did dominate and how they didn't score one or two is beyond me. Portugal, playing in what might have seemed like a home game managed their goal off a freekick in the 93rd minute.

lol, and the poor mexican fan has no clue.

in other news, Memo Ochoa has been declared the starting GK for the World Cup. either GK was good but I personally preferred Corona. he knows how to play outside the goal posts more and with his feet.

I think the whole "we have the starting eleven" thing is bullshit, i mean why would the starting XI be released to the press 4 days before the game? Thats something you want the other team to learn at the time of the match and not give them time to prepare.

Also Corona is a much more experienced goalkeeper, and in my opinion is better than Ochoa, if anything there should be rotation in the keeper position.

Couple of things:

Herrera's practice has always been to release starting line ups. It's has been one of his practices ever since he became a professional coach.

As far as the goalkeeper goes, mexico had no problem there - talavera himself is a class keeper and he is #3. Looking back at the past season, Corona actually declined, i can think of several goals where he was at fault and did not look as good as he did in 2012. If this was 2012, i'd definitely give Corona the nod to start. Ochoa had a great season in Ajaccio, i would argue that if you looked at all the goals scored on each keep this last year, Ochoa would be the one with least mistakes. As i told my friends, if Corona was a 9 (out of 10) in rating.. he becamse a 8.5 in 2013 and a 8 in 2014.. problem is that Ochoa went from a 7 and up to a 8.5/9 in 2014. Either way - i dont think this matters much.

I disagree with your comment about experience, if anything i think Ochoa has more international experience than the other 2 combined.

Today June 10, 2014, i think Ochoa is a slightly better level. If we are comparing to historically in the past couple of years, then yes, Corona was better.

What would you guys say are the chances of Mexico winning over Cameroon and Croatia?

And what was that other team? :D
Are we going to see a replay of the Olympics?

I love how people think that Mexico is going to be a cakewalk for Brazil, when historically, for the past 15 years, Mexico has been the one side that has defeated Brazil the most in all international levels. They're both bringing very similar teams to what their teams looked like in the 2012 Olympics. And we all know how that ended.

Still focussed on formations. Balance comes from the systems of play. Balance comes from what a team does the moment it either wins or loses possession and how it reacts and moves to different situations during the game.
Pretend for a moment you have a team set up as 4-4-2. Your team is attacking, the left back gets forward and overlaps the left midfielder and tries to get to the by line to get a cross in but loses possession while near the opposition penalty box. The opposition launch an immediate counter attack. At that moment the formation on the pitch looks like 3-4-3. Whats important?, what the players do, how they react, what their roles are when this happens. Or the formation?

Mexico 0 - 0 Brazil

MoM = Ochoa with 4 key saves but Mexico gave brazil a run for their money but still lack that final touch.

There's a good atmosphere in the squad:

Javier used the jersey Santos gave him in the past Confederations Cup.

Croatia will be in need for goals, I think it will be a very open and attractive match... for neutrals, I'll be really nervous. >_<
