Gaming Metal Gear Solid

Yeah I heard the news of the trophy support, thus started my prep for the MGS4 re-play. Just ordered the HD collection after playing through MGS, should take me through to August.

Peace Walker has a depth to it other Metal Gears haven't seen. I'm confused as to why it wasn't released as a full title, because the story-line and the sheer amount of things to do on it deserve it. Even though it's been ported to the PS3 there's still some limitations to the game which are slightly frustrating, but those are just minor issues really.

That track is made all the better when you're actually fighting Peace Walker. Stunning game.

Oooooh!

Where's that screen from?

Glad there will be a proper MGS5 rather than the horrible looking Metal Gear Rising being the next big edition.

Never understood why people love this game so much. The soundtracks are the only highlights; the gameplay is always crap and the 'story/plot' is only good if you are the type of person who thinks the Rambo series(which I love) had a good storyline.

The cut-scenes have always been quality from a technical stand point by gaming standards. I enjoy Kojima's over the top style of storytelling. It suits the genre IMO. Also I've always loved the gameplay. It's far more interesting to me and gives you loads of variety as compared to most fist person shooters around. Also, it's known for having great boss fights. Snake Eater in particular had probably the best boss fights I've seen in a game.

I'll grant you that the boss fights in Snake Eater were quite inventive, and that game is probably the best of the series. But the general gameplay isn't that great, and you always find yourself in-between lengthy cut-scenes, and while the boss fights are inventive, they weren't particularly challenging.

It's all subjective I guess. I have never been able to finish a single Mass Effect game to date. I've played them on all but got tired of the gameplay pretty soon after. The one thing that I really like about MGS' gameplay is that it gives me enough license to do what I want. It's not a Deus Ex which gives you loads of different ways to do one thing but the freedom to maneuver in MGS is far more than your typical first person shooter or third person action game. I remember the scene in Snake eater where you're at some base and there are about 13 bad guys surrounding the perimeter and you have to find some way to get past them all. I think I did that particular set piece in at least 3 pretty different ways.

MGS5? What? They gonna play with a decomposing snake now?

They have a young looking in Snake in the few promo shots floating about. you never know with Kojima though. All the MGS2 trailers had Snake instead of Raiden.

Saw that on IGN. Looked more like the guy from Splinter Cell than Snake/Big Boss. Still, I love this series and I can't wait for it.

 That can't be true though can it? Would be totally different to the previous ones.

It was sort of open world, but stuck inside a level as such.

Either way i do love the games.

I love MGS. In fact I might start a new game on Snake Eater or MGS4 later.

Just played through MGS 3 and peacewalker on the mgs hd collection. Both brilliant games. Far better than MGS 4 imo, which was hardly a game.

Looks fantastic.

Kojima confirmed this is a prologue to MGS5. Probably means that MGS5 is a next-gen title with this being for the current consoles.

MGS 3 had one of the most underrated storylines in a game so I cant wait to play this, the next part in Big Boss' story

Peace Walker was the next part in Big Boss's story, this follows on from that I assume.

That looks brilliant. Can the Ps3 actually pull that off? Seems hard to believe. Also, PES looking like that

So alongside Ground Zeroes most reasonable MGS fans also see 'The Phantom Pain' as another NEW MGS game. Probably MGS5. Perhaps in two parts.

The Phantom Pain seems to be a survival/horror. Psycho Mantis seems to make an apperance.

The game could be Big Boss v Sorrow or Snake v Mantis. I suspect it's a mixture of both with the game being played out through sequences not unlike collective memories.

Either way could be incredible.

Indeed. Looks fascinating.

Reckon it's going to be a proper jump out of your skin game too.

What happened to the MGS game with Raiden as the main character, where you mainly use a samurai sword? When is it due?

Wiki: Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance will be released in Japan on February 21, 2013, in North America on February 19, and in Europe on February 21.

I don't like the look of Revengeance, will still probably play it but I'm not holding out much hope for it.

As for The Phantom Pain, that looks brilliant. The guy at the end of the trailer looks like it could be...
Volgin from MGS3.

Yes, good spot Shane. The leg armour certainly looks the same.

There is no way that this is not a MGS game.

So is Kojima making two games....maybe a game that will be released in two parts....or are Ground Zeroes, The Phantom Pain & MGSV all the same title?

feck knows. Gotta love how Kojima constantly toys with people's minds.

Not impressed by the Rising demo. The blade controls are too complicated and IMO it would make a better game for PS Move than the standard controller (I'm not sure it Move is supported).

May grow on me but first impressions aren't good.

I liked the blade mechanics and it's pretty cool on a technical level slicing barrels in half but once the combat starts to get a bit frantic it all just falls apart and ends up with the standard light/heavy attack combo slashathon.

Perhaps it was because I was rubbish and will give it another go but I'll be waiting for it to go cheap before picking it up.
