Mesut Özil

No it isn't. We came to the conclusion that it's just some sort of technical test, or something. There's hundreds of players there. And it's been like that for years.

Is correct. I think you can find just about anyone ever linked with us in there.

I remember VG or Nettavisen ran with a story that we were signing someone because he showed up on some way on the main site, I wrote them a mail explaining it and they quickly took it down.

12:58 By the way, there are one or two rumours doing the rounds about the existence of a player profile for Mesut Ozil on ManUtd.com. Let me clarify the situation. Every opposition player and every player linked in our Transfer Speculation feature is assigned an ID number in our content management system. Because of this – and it's a technical glitch we're trying to rectify – it's possible to access a page (by trial and error of different numbers at the end of a web address) that appears to look very much like a first-team player profile. It's not. If you dig hard enough you'll also find links for just about every opposition player that's ever faced United. It doesn't mean we've signed them or we're planning to sign them. (NC)

Your old news son, we got Bebe now. He plays pretty much everywhere, and he cost us whatever we wanted him to cost us.

I'm not sure why everyone is so sure that the Ozil deal is dead now.

If there is value to be had, then the club will spend the money.

I think it would be hilarious if United bring in Ozil now after all those who were so sure the club had no money to spend all summer.

25 million already spent - another 15 mil for Ozil?

This new signing makes Ozil's signing no more or no less likely. I would have thought that was obvious.

:nono:

12 million net.

I also now feel it isn't so much the transfer fees that fergie means when he bangs on value (gill isn't so much concerned about transfer fees either), it is the wages that the top end/shit hot players are getting in the open market. Gill has always banged on about wages, wage/turnover ratio.

We can spend 40 million on 5 'below the radar' players, and that could be a lot of money fee wise in aggregate, but the players we are signing these days are definately ones that we don't have to pay much in wages.

Ozil would probably be able to command the weekly wages of hernandez, bebe, smalling, and diouf put together.

around 65k/week? No way would be command/demand more than that.

he is one year away from a free move. if he signs precontract, damn we'll he'd command more than that along with a massive signing on fee.

Right now he could easily command 70k if we have to complete madrid/barca. If he's on a free next year, IMO it'll be closer to 90 if the spanish are still iterested.

Just done a quick trawl of Spanish papers.

AS and Marca (Real papers) say Madrid have got him, Sport.es (Barca paper) say they have got him.

Both have no quotes.

Spanish Sun, Star and Mirror - they know nowt.

Panic ye not!

Jesus and we thought the Mail was bad.

Jesus and we thought the Mail was bad.

These 3 are much worse.

Todays Sport.es states Ibrahimovic/Robinho swap.

According to the 3 of them Real/Barca should now have most of the fotballing world playing for them.
AS and Marca are the worst saying Mourinho says 'I want another striker' so Madrid give him Ozil as a present as there's no big names available.

The way i see it is that, we were interested in ozil & hence why saf went to fulham. Saf had chats with his representatives or with breman. Ozil thought about & said thanks but no thanks, so some of the money we had saved for ozil we spent on bebe!

Here's a prediction from me IF we were to sign Ozil (big if, as I don't think we will);

He will be far off from living up to the insane expectations, i.e. a disappointment.

less so than the bulgarian who was thought of as the second coming by many on here due to his 'silky touch' and feckall else.

of all the ozil furore, it has been nothing compared to the bulgarian transfer saga

Any reason as to why?

Because I think it will be a case of trying to fit a square peg in to a round hole.

Excellent player, but doesn't seem to a Sir Alex type of player to me. He seems like a purely attacking midfielder, something that Sir Alex has very rarely used.

If we sign him, I reckon he will be played on the wing, which doesn't seem to me to be his natural position.

However, I've only seen him in the world cup.

Which is another point, I am dubious of clubs signing players based on world cup performances.

Any reason as to why?

because ozil is a good player with potential but i don't see 'lights out' talent a la rooney, messi, ronnie.

and on the old ozil thread i thought we should buy him back in january when we were linked, but I agree that i think it's all gone a bit overboard. He's a talent but some make it out like signing him will make us favorites for the CL automatically. he's good but not THAT good.

"I told you so", re. Berbatov.

spanish newspapers today all reporting he is off to real madrid.:

I really can't see him playing for Mourinho. Ozil isn't a player that likes the defensive side of the game too much.

maybe he wants to join Van der vaart, Sneijder, diarra, robben & the rest and waste a couple of years in his playing career warming the bench at madrid....

I just think that players only need to look at the example of Benzema, who has gone backwards and played less football at Madrid. The situation may be different now with Mourinho as manager but the ethos of that club is that player who come are expected to deliver straight away. Mourinho is also not a coach who develops players, like Sir Alx or Wenger. Mourinho is a coach who focuses on winning above all else. He has got the best out of many players but there are some who really suffered under him, Joe Cole, Wrigh-Philips, Balotelli etc. Would Ozil be one of these?

I honestly don't understand why any player would move to Real Madrid. It is a shambles of a football club.

# to clarify the point: RM's interest pre-dates MU's. The former have made a firm offer, the latter haven't. (as of yesterday) 5 minutes ago via web

idea that RM was "forced" to bid by MU for Özil is utter nonsense. RM already had €12m bid turned down two weeks ago. (see tweet yestrdy) 12 minutes ago via web
