Yeah i know but you said you don't need permission.. but you obviously do!!

No, you don't.

In England when going for a player from an english club you do.

When going for a player from another club, you do not. Uefa does not have specific rules on 'tapping up' between different FA jurisdictions.

I'm sure that they won't be paying that, certainly not under Rosel! He's been talking about downsizing and getting wages under control. That's media rubbish Sultan. That wage would put him comfortably in the top 5 earners at Barca, not going to happen!

Especially if you consider that Barca wasnt able to pay the wages in the last few months.

True

However, with a low signing on fee it would make sense Ozil demanding such a salary. Low Spanish tax for high earners would also make it a lot more lucrative for Ozil to sign for a Spanish club.

I think FIFA do though.

that of course is true, but I don't think making him the 3rd highest earner in the club(quoted 150k) would make any sense.

Barcelona had to balance their books recently, I dout they would go all out on wages like that.

If Ozil's given that kind of money, it'd cause unrest at Barca amongst other players. New contracts don't get the low tax rate anymore. A law was passed recently iirc.

Didn't Ballack use this to get his high wages.

This is sad if true, he would of been a nice addition to the squad. What does this mean for Fabregas next year though?

We will not get a new midfielder get over it. We may have been interested in one a few weeks ago when SAF said that he would be loaning Cleverley but since then everything had changed, United are keeping the kid and therefore will not launch a bid to anyone. I would have loved to see a new midfielder at OT and unlike many in here who had recently changed their stance because SAF had told them so, I stick to my guns. On the other hand we need to get realistic and agree that the chances of seeing the club signing one this season are low. We will be sticking to Anderson, Carrick, Gibson and Hargreaves.

Werder boss Klaus Allofs meanwhile said talks with the Sports Information Service (SID): "reports of an agreement with Barcelona nonsense. There are currently no offers are us."
Ta daa

While I do pretty much expect that he will end up at Barca, it just seems to be pretty vague stories in the the Catalan tabloids which is driving this so far. I doubt Werder would reach an agreement on a fee so quickly. They need a bidding war to build up.

Anyway, we'll have a good season with or without Oezil. If we truly were chasing him then I just hope Fergie does not have a dodgy fallback option lined up, like when he got Owen after missing out on Benzema.

I reckon this is going to drag out until at least Bremen's CL game next week.

breaking news on ssn - ozil fee agreed with barca

When Ozil will play and the stories will all go away.

If we really wanted the player then I guess we might still try to get him anyway. It's open for debate, but I think Chelsea and Real are more desperate for the CL than we are, and might not go for a cup-tied player.
There's a feeling that this season may be Chelsea's last shot at it for a while. And I think Real wanted Mourinho specifically for the CL. They are desperate for number 10.

The player himself is more likely to want to stay then though of course.

This is getting more and more like Benzema

Let me know when he's been spotted in a United shirt for the cover of FIFA11 or when one of his teammates tells us it's a done deal

Naah even we won't buy a cup tied player. We might make an agreement to take him and loan him back to Bremen for this season, but if he plays in Champions legue game he won't be goinganywhere. I read a rumour that Madrid have a mega offer for him if he see's out his contract with Bremen and they get him on a free.

Well, if Fergie really wants the player, and knows that it's now or never, then I think he might still go for it. The United squad will still have a good shot at the CL without Oezil. The bigger issue would be the player himself wanting to stay rather than miss out on a season of CL football.

If Fergie really wants the player then I imagine it would have been done and dusted by now and we'll still be none the wiser til they announce it.

I doubt Bremen will get that far tbh.

One thing that always puzzled me - why can't these players set themselves up to be more tax efficient.

Say Ozil signs for United. United pay Ozil offshire company £4m a year and then Ozil himself then bills his own offshore company say £1m a season. He only pays tax on the £1m.

Well, I've been making the argument for a while that we can't show our hand too early. We can't win in a bidding war. And starting the ball rolling too early increases the time for a bidding war to heat up. Seems like nobody else has shown their hand yet either.

So why not with the Tevez, Hargreaves, and Berbatov signings? He didn't want them enough?

No just the way we seem to be signing players this last year. It's not like we've really got to worry about the club (werder) playing hard ball this time.
