Messi retires from Argentina.

Its obvious that he just wants to sit out the Qualifiers and then return in time for the World Cup.

If Ronaldo pulled this stunt, everyone would be calling him a crybaby and a quitter.
Why do people keep saying that if Ronaldo did that and if Ronaldo do that

Maybe Ronaldo and Ronaldo's fans should think why he is more disliked than Messi

If he sits out of the qualifiers they won't get to the world cup.

An overlooked point is how bloody demanding football is in terms of schedule these days. Messi has reached every major tournament since 2010 with a minimum of 46 club appearances, every other time above 50, and as much as 57 in last year's Copa America. That doesn't count NT appearances throughout the season.

As a comparison Maradona made 31 club appearances in the 1985-86 season and 36 in 1989-90.

I think that alone puts a question mark in the value of World Cups as a benchmark for the best of players these days, so many of them reach it in incredibly poor form these days. Ronaldo this year and in 2014 was in clear energy saving mode and carefully choosing the moments where he should sprint. It will be interesting to contrast how players will be in Qatar WC.

@Arruda

Good point. By the same way, the absence of winter break has a role to play in the performances of England...

Cause he's a showoff and people can't stand him cause he knows he's the best. That's all. Messi doesn't pose in his underwear or gel his hair or wear fake tan. He doesn't date a new supermodel every month or take off his shirt when he scores.

He's the "ordinary" guy. And people always cling to those types of people over the Ronaldos of the world.

People still to do this day, take the piss out of Ronaldo for crying when he lost in the Euro 2004 final. Despite the fact that he just lost his dad around that period, they laugh and are glad he lost. Messi has cried at least 5 times for Argentina now and everyone feels sorry for him and hopes he finally wins one. It's ridiculous, hypocritical and typical.

I like both Ronaldo and Messi. But I can't stand supposed "football fans" who don't like or appreciate Ronaldo. How can you be a football fan and not appreciate or respect his talent? A large portion of this is purely because he played for United, I feel.

I don't really care about footballers personalities but Ronaldo is far more annoying than Messi who can be petulant as well.
Ronaldo had always been about himself, even the way he plays. I can see why many don't warm to him tbh.

That's rubbish but fair enough. You're free to choose to believe that.

How so? There are several examples of times he has legitimately got upset and not celebrated with the rest of his team because a team-mate scored, instead of himself. There are several examples where he can be having absolute dire games yet get upset when a teammate takes a risk instead of passing to him. (Portugal against Poland an example) Not to add all the times the game is done and dusted for him to score the 4th goal and celebrate like he single handedly won the game. Oh and also taking every free-kick despite the fact that he's just shite at them now and last but not least, choosing to go 5th in Penalty shootouts so he can be the one to win it.

It's all about himself with Ronaldo. Taking nothing away from his ability but he's a cock.

Fans made this in front of a Leo's house: "If the world is against you, We are against the world".
His house is a bit of a mess.

What are you on about? The manager makes most of those decisions. Who takes the free kicks, who takes the penalties, the instructions... that all comes from the manager. Besides, he went first against Poland in the penalties.

I've seen plenty of occasions where Ronaldo celebrates with his team mates after they score. This is a complete myth. And if you're talking about celebrating winning the champions league then that's just ridiculous. Anyone would celebrate scoring a goal in a final, regardless of the score.

Clutching at straws. Ronaldo is a big presence for both his club and nation, as a result he most likely has a big influence on decisions. Managers don't have one specific free-kick taker, hence why a lot of the time players discuss who should take it and decide between themselves given the circumstances. It's a known fact Bale is superior in free-kicks than Ronaldo and has been for a while now, yet he still takes them. Instructions are down to the manager? You honestly believe a manager would tell his team to continue playing through a player who is having a terrible game instead of trying to dictate the game themselves?

He went first against Poland, went last in the Champions League final despite being their catalyst, you're being daft if you don't believe if he had a say in what number he wanted to go. No manager would risk using their best player and regular penalty taker as 5th from their own will.

There are also plenty of occasions he does look like a tit.

Some examples of these "myths":

Doesn't celebrate with Arbeloa and gives off an angry reaction as he didn't manage to get on the end of it.

That same game where he celebrated like a mad man after scoring the 4th goal against Athletico when the game was done and dusted:

He didn't seem too fussed that Ramos scored the equaliser, you know, a goal that actually mattered.

Another example where he shows frustration that he didn't score, instead of relief that Bale eventually did:

These are just some examples of these "myths". Not a myth, incredible player but a cock. I'm sure there are more examples but I really can't be arsed looking for them right now.

I could find you 500 examples of Ronaldo celebrating team mates goals. Most of these clips don't even show him in a particularly bad light. He kicked the ball at the net after Arbeloa scored... so? Many players do this.

I actually cba debating this. Ronaldo has this "mythical" reputation around him where he doesn't assist goals, doesn't celebrate team mates goals and "its all about him". I take it you weren't watching the Portugal game the other night? He celebrated when they won. He was even shown motivating his team mates to take the penalties.

Theres plenty of players who make it all about them in football. Rooney, Gerrard, Terry, to name a few. I don't see the media slating them. Maybe its cause they're English...

You're missing the point though, no-one is arguing that he's the only one? He's one cock of many. Showing me "500 examples" doesn't change the fact that there are also many examples showing the complete opposite. He kicked the ball in the net then walked out strutting and didn't even smile or show any affection to Arbeloa the goal scorer. His team equalised in the Champions League final ffs and was the only one who didn't run up and celebrate with Ramos ffs, but then celebrates like he won the World Cup taking his shirt off when he scores a goal that had absolutely no relevance, at all.

I did watch the Portugal game, the same game where he was head and shoulders worse than just about every other Portugal player on the pitch, squandering numerous great chances by the other Portugese players. Only for their captain to throw his hands in the air and show disgust when they tried to play football themselves as it was clear it wasn't working for Ronaldo? Of course he celebrated when they won, they made the semi-final of the European championship despite him being dire all competition except for one half of football, any player would be happy.

He's a great player but this is a thread on Messi and instead of further derailing I will stop. People need to stop trying to justify his actions, he's an incredible player, but also a cock.

Verón on his way to Sevilla to convince Sampaoli (AFA).

I guess its the right choice, but damn their timing is awful.

i hope he rejects Argentina

failing that, he probably takes a plane to Madrid. I hope Simeone rejects them too. :D

Bielsa have been mentioned too but that would be a waste of time. El loco wouldn't work with all those corrupts at AFA and the current government.
