MERGED - The 2010/2011 ASHES tour thread...all Ashes related chat here please!

and another...what a waste of a review by Swann. Bell should have told him mate, if you didn't hit it, don't bother. It's plumb, let me save me the review, incase I need it.

Should've taken that. Magical spell from Siddle.

...and now Ponting's idiotic captaincy comes to the fore, terrible feel, Warnie in the commentary box doing his best to bite his tongue.

What horrible captaincy. Ponting's completely fecking this up.

Just as I typed that, Bell goes over the top and is out to Doherty.

That's what having two legends in your formative captaincy years does for you...they basically set their own fields, and Punter learned nothing. The inbred tassie bastard..:lol:

Mitchlol has been completely useless...everyone else has looked decent.

Siddle interviewed on TV, asked if he got the hat trick ball exactly where he wanted it to go.. he said he was aiming for top of off stump. Honest guy.

Johnson's been awful.

Johnson's been awful.

Yep, he's really lost his way since South Africa at the beginning of 2009. He bowled so well towards the back end of 2008 and beginning of 2009, but since the Ashes last year he's just been so wayward. Funnily enough, the guy who did his tattoo is the same guy who did mine. :D

16 overs, 3 maidens, 6 for 54. Great spell.

Mitchlol thinks he can be like Lee was early in his career...don't worry about the average, but bowl as quick as you can, intimidate the batsmen, hit a few...and we'll get McGrath and Warnie clean them up.

But Mitchlol is not as quick, and stupidly slings it short and wide over after over.

He bowled well here in India, thought he might have his rhythm back but he's been horrid. I think Bollinger should replace him. Bollinger's still the best bowler Australia have.

Katich and Watson walk out.. what a day of cricket it's been.

Only one winner at the end of day 1

Australia - Completely dominated, thanks to that spell by Peter Siddle. And finished things off with a nice little start with the bat.

Incredible! What a day for Australia, will have to watch the highlights later but Siddle did look dangerous in the morning session, and to get a hat-trick in an Ashes is special.

I still think the Aussie middle-order is out of sorts at the moment, so a few early wickets and they'll be under pressure.

Some of the comments during the game have been proven horrendously wrong, so here's my attempt. I would love to see a 260 run opening partnership.

Btw, WE LOVE SIDDLE COS HE'S A VICTORIAN!!! Happy birthday, Sids.

Luckily that's only the frist day in a long series.

Can't really draw any conclusions as yet.

Big first session tonight,

To be honest the Ozzie attack wasn't that great, one magic spell from Siddle turned the game it can happen guy bowled brilliantly to be fair to him, but the rest looked pretty shit in all fairness.

Mitchell Johnson...ill never understand the hype around this man hes utter utter shit and Bell was taking the piss out of him most of his innings, Hilfenhaus is average at best and only a threat when the ball swings lucky for him it swung longer than it usually does in Aus, hes never taken 5 wickets in an innings in his entire test match career! and Doherty looked pretty ordinary until he picked up a couple of cheap throw away wickets at the end.

I don't think much has changed, the Ozzie attack isn't anything special, they won the day on the back of one great spell of bowling, a wonderful individual effort, the rest looked crap.

England need to bowl well and get themselves back in the game, they've clearly got a much better bowling outfit than the Australians so hopefully they can.

I rate Siddle. I think he's a good bowler and has been for a while. Johnson has been overrated for a while now. Hilfenhaus is decent. He's great on a swinging pitch. He's an Australian Jimmy Anderson. Doherty was unimpressive from what I saw. Has a first class bowling average of 48. Shows how thin Australia are on spinners now.

I also think England aren't that great in bowling themselves. I have no doubts in England's ability to screw up. Especially in Australia.
