MERGED - The 2010/2011 ASHES tour thread...all Ashes related chat here please!

Hussey is back to his freaky best. He is the best man to take a team out of crisis.

He was actually pretty average in the last Ashes and again this time. He's had only one good test against Australia and that was the last one..

You know, you are right. Infact looking up the statistics the top 3 wicket takers in that series were Aussies. Then Broad and then Swann.

How the feck did we win that series.

IIRC a couple of batting collapses did for Australia.

England's chances depend on which Aussie bowlers turn up. The ones that conceded 1000/6 or the ones that rolled over England cheaply in the two other innings.

Going to be a cracking finish. We'll know which way the game's heading by the end of today's play. Another 30+ overs to go.

309 allout.

391 to win. Will be interesting to see which Aussie bowling lineup turn up.

Yeh I know...sometimes you think your talking to yourself...

Not so sure. Certainly if the Aussies take two or three wickets, the odds would be hugely in their favour, but England reaching say 75-0, whilst being a good start, would be a long way from indicating they'll go on to win the match.

Cook goes.

No way England will finish with only 75 runs without wickets falling(one has already fallen)..

Why didn't they use the review, there is a good chance that could have been overturned.

I think if it's marginal like it's brushing the stumps, then the umpire's call stands..

Strauss out. England in big trouble here.

This test has certainly had a more familiar feel to it. England have batted poorly and Australia have bowled much better on a much quicker pitch than the previous 2. I always felt in England would struggle at Perth, but you have to give the Aussies credit for coming back in the series. Game On I would say.

The last two pitches were featherbeds. I'm surprised our South Africans haven't done better on this pitch though. They're brought up on fast bouncy tracks.

Not adapted well enough to the Perth pitch. Simple as that really.

But more worryingly for me is they'd 'dropped' the mentallity

It's typical at 78 for none in the first innings they thought the series was finished. You could see it. Right there and then they should have dug in even more and seen out more time

If we had got even say 275 on this in the first innings this game would have been completely different

(as I write thats five on the last ball of the day)

Actually it reminds me of watching Arsenal ! You just know that they cannot mentally maintain a position of consistant strength

absolutely gutless

A team full of fannies?!!!! To be fair, Aus have comeback well, they used the conditions perfectly...and we always look clueless on pitches that offer a little.

Fair play to the Aussies. Whilst they might not have the world-class players they had a few years ago, it was always over the top to make out they are a team of third-raters. We'll find out soon enough how badly this has shaken England's confidence.

That scorecard is almost cringe worthy...

I heard Michael Vaughan on the radio this morning saying that Bell should be batting up the order, certainly above Collingwood (could someone remind me what he does?) on the basis that he is on form but when he gets in he only has tail-enders to support him.

.

I agree with that. Nick Knight said the same thing on Sky yesterday. But it's unlikely to happen simply because the batting order has worked well so far for the past year or so. I think you simply have to give Australia credit this time round, they've been the better team.

Collingwoods place should be under threat in my opinion, his batting has been a bad joke all series how hes still batting above Bell whos in the form of his life is anyone's guess, hes a walking wicket at number 5 and his catches in the field are keeping him in the team, but sorry your in there to bat and you aint doing it.

Id bring Morgan in for Collingwood for the next test and bat Bell at 5.

Cringeworthy stuff from the English, even when their up against one of the worst Aussie sides ever.. they still manage to capitulate.

Hussey is a fantastic player, proper warrior... if only england had half as much as that guys backbone.

Bell up the order has to be done.. make Collingwood a wicket keeper if needs must because his batting is non existent at the moment and catching one or two spectaculars isn't going to cut it.. he needs to step up and show he can still produce his gritty best.

Fair play Aussies. Worst side in a decade and they still manage to fight back.

How are the pitches at the MCG and SCG? I still think if the pitches don't offer bounce, Australia will struggle and England are more likely to get 20 wickets.

what times are these games going ahead

UK time? This is odd as the last set of matches were early hours

What a fecked country Aus is

feck me, Wenger's to blame for world hunger, global warming and the economic meltdown.

The Perth test starts at 2:30am UK time, while the next two (Melbourne, Sydney) are starting at 11:30pm. You gotta keep in mind that Australia covers three time zones :)

Seems Ponting has a broken finger and his participation in the rest of the series is doubtful.

If his replacement does well and Clarke captains decently then is that the end of his test career.

There was some talk about some of the Aussie players/pundits questioning Clarke's ability to replace Ricky - they seemed to be of the opinion that Hussey or Haddin would be better options than Clarke. Of bigger concern to the Aussies would be not who replaces Ricky as captain, but who takes his place in the batting line-up.

I doubt Ricky will sit out the series unless the doctors force him to do so. To lose 3 ashes series as a captain would be detrimental to his legacy as one of the great batsman of all time.

Prior now gone - good catch by Hussey. Harris takes his fifth. This one will be over very soon...
