MERGED - The 2010/2011 ASHES tour thread...all Ashes related chat here please!

You can never rule out an England cluster feck no matter how flat the wicket, we could be batting on the M4 and still find a way to screw up although granted this England side is made of sterner stuff and is not the mentally fragile bunch of fairy's we used to bring over to your country.

KP's twitter.

After losing the toss, that has to go down as a very good day.. BUT, its only 1 out of 5.. All us batters need to turn up now!! Night all..

Very true, and they know it.

Well that was a nightmare...the most docile pitch in all of australia, and this is the return, thank God for Hussey and Haddin, otherwise this wouldn't be a contest atm.

Humiliating the Ozzys on their home turf would be an enticing prospect.

But not so good for the neutrals, like yourself BTV...

Anyway, we were at the same stage in the first match and look where that went. Plenty of time for things to change in either team's favour over the next few days...

What a day for england! Just watched the last session now.

Australia about 150 runs under par i reckon. Excellent :D

Dont know why Ponting was barking abuse at Strauss at the end there, typical of him when things arnt going his way mind, whats up Ricky still a bit upset you got a goldie!

Is there a more hateful cricketer than Ricky Ponting. An arse of the highest order.

He felt Strauss was walking off before the umps had called play off, and that 1 more over could be squeezed in, it's not that big a deal.

You won't find many Australians that like him either. For me, since Warne, McGrath and Gilchrist retired, his decisions have been mind bogglingly shit and the pressure has caught up with him by his dismal last couple of years. Fantastic cricketer in form, but he's never been a great captain regardless of his stats. Warne should have been captain but would never get it due to his off field dramas. Arrogant son of a bitch, but one of the best we'll ever see.

I like his tenacity and passion TBH.

I agree, there was a fantastic moment in the last Ashes series where the ball hit him in the face and cut his mouth open but he didn't even show his pain and certainly didn't leave the pitch, shortly after Freddy smacked the ball right up his arse and still Pointing showed no pain or emotion and simply carried on.

However, feck him and c'mon England!

He is a bit like Keano. If you were a United supporter you loved his insane passion and drive but if you were an opposition supporter you hated his guts.

He must really hate the decline in Aussie fortunes. They really are a pale shadow of their former selves.

Ponting reminds me more of George Dubya Bush, in terms of intellect and the way he carries himself.

Nah, he's not a mongoloid. He is the spit of dubya though to look at, got that kind of chimpy look about him.

I actually like punter, think he's a top notch sporting competitor myself. Absolutely love seeing him get riled though, it's brilliant.

Yeah agreed, always had respect for him purely as a batsman and in the field.. just don't rate him as a captain in terms of tactics when his sides fielding. He possesses a heck of alot of bottle though and his batting stats are excellent even as captain which couldn't be said for other batsmen of his ilk.

Yeah wouldnt disagree. It's difficult to compare him to the other australian captains of recent times though as pontings been the one who has seen the end of the gravy train of great aussie players.

England should be looking to make at least 400 runs on this wicket. The ball might do a bit early on, but batting should be pretty straight-forward for the most part.

Tempting fate a bit there aren't you?

Warne looks slimmer than at the end of his paying days!

Yeah, he has lost a lot of weight since this summer. Ironically, he had a burger named after him at McDonalds.

When you consider how good a pitch this is to bat on and the confidence of the England batsman, if they survive the early overs they should really get a big score. All the pressure was already on the Aussie bowlers before the test, now it's even more with their batsman failing.

What the feck was that from Strauss?

Hits the top of the bail, my confident pre-match prediction seems a bit silly at the moment, but a poor leave from Strauss.

Buggertitsarse start. Think we'll be ok though.

I presume strauss thought it was going over.
