MERGED - The 2010/2011 ASHES tour thread...all Ashes related chat here please!

Review fails, good decision again. Aussie still 11-3

Almost a caught & bowled - on replay he actually drops it! Hard catch though

No world cup and Australia probably all out for about 35 and the entire country will be in mourning.

Nope. Unlike the English, our commentators can remain level headed when our teams up shit creek... Except for Bill Lawry, he gets a little excited.

Yeah even as an English supporter I like Slats, Taylor, Benaud and co.

I fecking hate beefy. Hussain and Athers aren't too bad.

And us English would just be saying "what world cup?"

There will be a decent proportion of Aussies, Union, League and AFL fans, who were seriously threatened by the possible arrival of a real World Cup so they at least will be happy.

From Michael Vaughan on Twitter: "More wickets than FIFA votes already.. Took us just 15 mins.."

fecking hell I wake up and we're 3-25.............. WTF happened?

Each wicket was a bit cheaper than each vote n'all. Australia on the other hand have finally got more runs than FIFA votes in about 30 minutes.

Maybe World Cups should be decided by cricket matches?

I hate Ian Healey, is there are more biased commentator going around?

Terrible review by Strauss.

I don't know about terrible. They are under pressure and turning the screw a little more to get their arses twitching will do no harm.

That's so bad its not even good bad.

Even with three early wickets, the consensus is that runs will be easily obtained once the ball loses it's shine, so there's no reason why the Aussies can't make a decent recovery here with plenty of batting to come.

Nice shot by Watson, decent recovery by these two

They don't have plenty of batting to come. From Harris down they're all tailenders. Probably why Ponting wanted to keep Johnson in the side. But yeah, they could still recover because the pitch looks pretty easy to bat on from here.

No, actually you're right, I thought there was a bit more strength to their line-up but only North and Haddin to come who would be rated pretty highly.

Watson always impresses me. Comes from the Collingwood book of "limited player making the most of what he has".

62-3, steady recovery by Watson & Hussey.

Lunch down under = Bed up over.

Prediction: Australia to close the day 260-5 possibly 6 if we are lucky. Swann to take Husseys wicket before he takes his helmet off.

To be honest, I think the english team keep their heads as well so to speak. Think they've seen it all before. Generally the commentary on sky is pretty balanced. Warne is my favourite though, excellent insight.

Anyway, been on a 20 min delay for first session - what a start it was, amazing! Shame we couldnt knick hussey out.

I'd predict australia to be on about 300-320 for 6/7 at stumps.

Wow - i was still 20 mins behind watching agony/ecstasy thing and accidentally touched my remote and changed channel. Switched quickly back to get back so wouldnt miss too much of the new session and when it came on Watson was being caught!!! I'm claiming the inspiration on that one!

96-4.

North out!

156-5.

I think i might be all alone in here. Time for a sneaky wank? Think i'm a bit too tired. Bed at tea for me, last session when i get up.

North.

Whatever happened to the days when Bevan and Lehmann couldn't get a look in because Australia were so stocked with quality batsmen.

Australia's slide in standards is fecking hilarious.

200 for 5...nice fight back by the Aussies. This wicket isn't offering much, the game already has draw written all over it.

Another one gone LBW....but I think he got a tiny bit of bat on it.

Australia All out 245 on an absolute featherbed of a wicket England will be delighted, 400 is absolute minimum on that pitch and with 37 degree heat expected tomorrow England should make this very hard for Australia and get big runs, Anderson looks a class above any other seamer on show at the moment England or Aus, class bowling again.

Dont know why Ponting was barking abuse at Strauss at the end there, typical of him when things arnt going his way mind, whats up Ricky still a bit upset you got a goldie!

245 is a pathetic effort on such a flat wicket. Australia might consider it to be a good recovery after being 2-3, but this puts a hell of a lot more pressure on their bowling attack. Anderson proving he can cope with the Australian conditions, he was brilliant again.

What was all that about between Ponting & Strauss at the end?

fecking Joke. feck off North and Clarke. Pure shit. How the hell North gets picked time and time against is beyond me. He's the mitchel Johnson of the batters.

Clark, Ponting and North have been terrible all year. No quality spinners and the pace attack lack any form of variety.

Australia simply need a major overhaul.

I was gonna ask about that what was his problem. Only thing I can think of is Bothem mentioned something about England taking there time to come out to bat when the Aussies could have bowled 2 or 3 overs late on instead on just the 1 they had.

Jimmy and Broady bowled beautifully, Broad bowled far better than the 0 in his wicket column would suggest. Skittling the Aussies out in a day on that track is a fantastic feat. Hopefully England can bat long and post a big score. The pitch looks superb for test match cricket, the groundsman's done a good job there.

It might be along those lines and more about the fact Strauss and Cook walked off at the end before the umpire had officially called time, considering it was already past the allotted end of play it would seem a pretty tedious thing to get so abusive about, but thats Ponting, hes the same with the umpires whenever things arnt going his way, in the last test he was hurling abuse at Billy Docktrove for calling a wide of all things.

I think Ponting knows hes in trouble, hes already the only Aussie skipper in history to have lost the Ashes twice! a third time and his career whilst statistically very good individually wouldn't be seen in such a great light over there.
