MERGED - The 2010/2011 ASHES tour thread...all Ashes related chat here please!

1 wicket all day is disappointing. Terrific batting by England, Cook looked very good considering his troubles the past year, but very disappointing from Australia's perspective. North picked up a wicket, but the full-time spinner (Doherty) did not look threatening at all from what I saw yesterday.

Sky were saying the Adelaide ground is historically a flat pitch and will probably be a flatter wicket that this one.

adelaide is the real featherbed, it doesn't do anything, so swing, no bounce, maybe a bit of turn right at the end...

That's why I'm so surprised the Curator put up such a dead wicket in Brissie this time around.

What would a combined team look like? Something like this:

1. Strauss
2. Watson
3. Ponting
4. Clarke (if fit, otherwise Trott)
5. Pietersen
6. Bell/Hussey
7. Haddin
8. Broad
9. Swann
10. Siddle
11. Anderson

1. Strauss
2. Cook/Katich
3. Ponting
4. Pietersen
5. Hussey
6. Bell
7. Prior/Haddin cant split them even averages all but identical.
8. Broad
9. Swann
10. Siddle
11. Anderson

I cannot see the arithmetic producing an England win in this test, therefore I think it would be quite foolish for Strauss to try an engineer one. If at any point in the day we are in a position to declare it would release them from their torment of watching us run up a big score from a very bad position. It would keep their whole order out fielding whilst the batters are content running up totals and it would tire out their bowlers whilst most of our side can sit back and watch and be refreshed for the second test. If we declared it would put them in a stronger position than us and put them on the offensive.

As pointed out by Ian Botham just now, it's "spot the Aussie" time in the ground today!

The ground's almost empty, where are the Aussie fans?

150 for Cook, brilliant innings and like Hussey, he's back on form

Waheyyy again!!...Great bowling Mitchell, keep it up lad

Shocking stuff from the Aussies. The match will end in a draw but this will be a psychological victory for England

Trott and Cook are batting an absolute treat. Australia has nothing ATM, funny how far the complexion of this test has changed since day one (and day two, when it looked like England were getting on top again).

Meanwhile, feck I hate Johnson.

In fact the only Australian players I like are Watson, Katich and Doherty - and by like I mean can be bothered with.

Quite possibly the worst bowling I have ever seen, isn't he meant to be the best they have?

Johnson's fecking shit. The whole of Australia (except for some dickheads) know it, but why don't the selectors?

You'll notice every wicket he gets are just dicky dicky wickets... Always a shit shot from the batsman, hardly ever could you say it was just a great knut from Johnson.

Botham saying there are rumours that Johnson & North will be dropped and Bollinger & Smith will be brought in for the second test. North I reckon is done for, but I don't think they'll drop Johnson yet, even though he has had another shocking game.

Someone just SMS'd into the commentary team and said: "I've just checked the odds and Kerry you're at shorter odds than the bowlers to take the next wicket. We're stuffed."

200 run lead now, they should bat until tea at the latest and then declare. The game will be beyond Australia and it will give the England bowlers a chance to get a few wickets.

I would LOVE that.

What's the point of picking a 'strike' bowler, who can't take wickets. But supposedly can bat, but really can't do that either?

Yep, and if you get a few quick wickets - Ponting, North or Clarke - then you're well and truly into their heads.

Cook gets his double-century - brilliant knock. For someone who was all over the place in the summer, this has been an incredible display.

Now for Trott to get his ton, then plenty of wickets (for Australia) please.

Would like to see Pieterson come out after lunch and let loose for an hour or so. If England can a 300 run lead, would be great to get the Aussies in 30 mins before tea and then having a real go at them.

England can do some real damage if they declare after lunch and take a bunch of aussie wickets.

I have a sensational veetle stream, if people have trouble watching it.

I don't know if I had installed veetle or not, if this doesn't open up, then install and try. Absolute quality.

100 for Trott. Solid display from him, as can be expected. Other than the fact he usually takes 5 minutes to get prepared before each delivery, he is a very good player and one you can usually rely on.

Btw, when was the last time the top 3 all got 100's?

Well done Trott, another fantastic innings.

Apparently this is like the 2nd time ever the top three English batsmen have made centuries.

Thanks mate :)

Trott looks happy!!!!

1930's apparently, or around that period. They mentioned it in the commentary before but I forget the exact date.

Lunch, England 439-1, England lead by 218. No matter how flat the pitch is, this has been a shocking and embarassing display from Australia.

130 runs in 32 overs in morning session .... England have a cracking morning.

Are you Australian or are just supporting Australia for this series?

I'm an Aussie, though I don't care for the Australian players individually. Bollinger's the only really likable player from what I've seen.

Aus's bowling is remarkably thin ... one of the worst bowling departmenst in world cricket at the moment. They got lucky with Siddle in the 1st innings ... if Engalnd perform to potential, they really shoud win this series with ease.

This is absolutely hilarious.

Great pics of the English crowd.

aussies embarrassed in the pitch and off it - in cricket!
