MERGED - The 2010/2011 ASHES tour thread...all Ashes related chat here please!

Looking through his stats, Cook has a relatively poor record vs Australia. Likewise, he has yet to hit a real 'purple patch' in his career where e has piled on alot of runs consecutively in a short period of time.

If he can get his shit together and kick on from this innings in the rest of the series, this knock could be a defining moment for him in his career

Wow, this one looks tight. Doesn't look like he caught it.... It's landed just as he gets his fingers there.

Haha, now Ponting drops a (hard) chance.

Mark Waugh would've caught it.

We'll stop this total iisstaking in about 20 mins and nip a few Aussies out.

503-1.

All those years of us getting rolled voer- i never thought i'd see this :D

This. Don't mind us batting on like this for a bit yet, this has been a joyous few days for anyone who watched australia routinely batter us in the 90's.

Sigh.

The days of champion players like the Waughs, McGrath, Slater, Taylor, McDermott, Warne, Hughes, Boon, etc, etc, etc. are LONG gone. Not to mention the next generation of champions like Gilchrist, Gillespie, Hayden, Martyn, Langer, McGill, etc etc.

You compare this side with those respective champion sides, and you really couldn't make a case for ANY of the current players making the side - Ponting excluded of course.

Declaring!

If Ponting, Clarke or North make nothing then shit will hit the fan.

My heart bleeds.

yep, if England can get beyond Ponting by the 10th over, it really will be squeaky bum time for the Aussies til the end of play.

Superb innings from Ali Cook - that was just something else. The commentary here was saying he'll have been out on the field for almost the whole test (spent more than 1100 minutes out in the middle batting and fielding when he was on 220ish), which must be some sort of record.

Ponting with a 50 off 40 balls, his 97th (I think) 50 of his career.

And there we go, a match where the momentum continuously changed ends in a draw.

fecking Australian selectors are idiots. If they pick the same bowling line up again they need their heads checked. feck hilfy and Johnsonoff and bring in Clark and Dougy. Clark would have ripped england to shit in England but they would never select him. they kept giving fecking players like Johnson who can't bowl for shit chances because they get wickets some times.

feck it, get Brett Lee on the phone

Horrid freaking test match...brilliant wicket too. fecking shit, we complain about the concrete roads they put up in the subcontinent, WTF was this?

Oh and

Mithlol The Drain Johnson - 42 - 170 - 0 - GTFO.

No one cares about India. Cricket is England vs Australia.

The Ashes are the pinnacle of the game, nothing trumps England v Australia and thats accepted around the globe, its so much more than just a test series its a rivalry long beyond the game of cricket, some random series in India dosnt come close im afraid.

While I don't agree with Sammsky's view that India-SA series is the "El Classico", nothing still beats a India-Pakistan Rivalry. It's much much more than a cricketing rivalry.

WE fecking hate Fosters. It's a hilarious joke that we export that shit to you guys, yet won't touch it ourselves... Though I think we must export a different style of Fosters to the shit we have down here.

It is shit everywhere but the English stuff isn't quite as bad as the Aussie stuff.

NWR and LoobyLu visited recently and I bought him a bottle as a laugh, the first I have bought in nearly 2 decades in Australia.

Well that was terrible. England were slightly less shit than Australia. When it comes down to it 3 batters played very well against poor/appalling bowling. If Australia lose Johnson and replace him with someone a bit better it will be pretty even again I'd say. The finding someone better bit isn't as easy as it sounds no matter how crap he is.

Bollinger or Harris, surely? Hell, get Nannes in here. He can actually bowl fast (150) AND swing it.

They won't drop Mitchlol...they'll wait till the end of the 2nd test. Dropping him now means there is no going back to him for the rest of the series.

Selectors will give him 1 more test to sort things out...But only by dropping him can they work Bollinger into the team, Hilfenhaus was decent, and obviously Siddle for 6 in the 1st innings.

Not sure what to make of Xavier Doherty either, he wasn't good, but really neither was Graeme Swann for large spells.
