A slow, one trick pony whose whole idea of playing football is to cut inside from the left and take a half-decent shot at goal with his favoured foot and you say that player has 'plenty in his locker'? No way I'm having that.

I'd love it if he proves me wrong but with each passing day it's looking rather unlikely
Feck me this thread. See I can understand people questioning his consistency or his mentality in big games but to call him talentless is ridiculous, the lad put in the single best performance in United shirt for the last few years. The question isn't whether he has talent, it's whether we can get it out of him on a consistent basis.

There's more than enough there to suggest he has talent.

Used to think Fellaini was a sign of our decline....

I take it back, Depay is! At least Fellaini actually does something now and again. This sack of crap actually pulled out of a goalscoring chance today. He was getting there before Schmeichel but, he slowed down when he saw him racing out. He shat himself.

Give the lad some time to establish himself in the PL.

Eh no. There's a very real need to ask whether the guy is anywhere near talented enough for United. Playing well against some third rate rubbish tells you nothing given he's looked completely out of his depth in the league. Quite badly so in fact.

His problem is not his consistency. He's been consistently terrible if anything.

Eh yes. So where was everyone else against this 3rd rate rubbish?

He's actually played pretty well whenever he's been given minutes in recent weeks, he just hasn't been given enough recently.

Except most of our better players have turned up against the better teams over the course of the season. Depay hasn't. There's every reason to be concerned and wonder if he can hack it in the league against half decent teams. Until he can put in some good performances even on a semi consistent basis against the better teams the questions will persist. You can't brush them aside because he played well against a team who aside from being terrible hadn't played a game for more than 2 months in the build up.

And I'm not brushing them aside, I have serious concerns too. But you don't put performances in like and and during his time in the Dutch league without having a lot of talent, as I say his problem is transferring it to the league.

His performance changes visibly when he's playing with confidence, how many times have we seen him attempt those turns and tricks in the Prem? He hasn't tried and failed due to superior opposition, he's just not tried them at all, there is a lot more to Memphis than we've seen so far, the question is are we going to see it here, it's certainly worth giving him the opportunity to find out.

He's shown he's talented enough for the Dutch league, yes. Nothing more. He wouldn't be the first player to score bucket loads of goals there and struggle in England. Some replicate their form and some don't. He's in the latter category so far.

Not really. He tries plenty of stuff. They just don't come off against the better quality of defenders than he's used to. He then plays well against a crap team and people call him a confidence player until he then goes to the league and struggles again to anything.

Could a problem for Memphis be the playing style under LvG? Direct vs Possession
Of course it is, and it was obvious since the day one we've shown interest in him. His best moves come when he has acres of space and defenders on the back foot, what happens far more often when you play counter attacking football rather than van Gaal style.

I think he deserve a fresh start next season.

worst first yr ever for the dosh spilled out of any united player i ever saw. can't cross , can't beat a man , can't control a simple pass. he has to get better if he gets worse he wouldn't be a footballer. he'd make a good DJ. as far as deserving another yr i'd agree only because it's his first. would anyone say it if it were yr two?

I have no faith they he'll come good, he looks like he's hopelessly out of his depth.

Funny thing is, he might do much better under Mourinho type of manager who would probably abandon our possession football in a second. However, I don't think Depay works enough for Jose.

He has ZERO intensity in his game. And that for me is my biggest disappointment in him. I don't imagine him ever working out at LW. Id actually be surprised if he ever makes it here.

Memphis hasn't worked hard enough and you wonder about his attitude

At the same time he joins a long long list of very talented players who have flopped to varying degrees in the last 3 seasons some of whom cost a lot more money like Mata or Di Maria who are/were only good in patches

My point being the mismanagement of Van Gaal in particular being a major factor perhaps and the kid needs games

First touch kicks ball into row z - Check √
Out muscled easily by every other player on the pitch - Check √

Not good enough, not even remotely. I don't even see any raw materials to work with.

Stands over free kick like Ronaldo... Predictably hits wall - Check √

my point stands , they look the business every now and then , he looks shit all the time. adds nothing. and ADM didn't get a second yr. LVG is the only reason he gets a game. if he showed up like this with anyone like jose he'd have a sore arse from being sat down.

Has single one of his free kicks this year went over the wall?

I reckon majority of Eredivise players are midgets and their keepers are blind considering he scored that many goals from set pieces there.

Several of them have gone over the wall actually. Straight into the stands.

He looks like he's bricking them when he gets the ball.

How can we trust LvG with more money when he's wasted a shit load on crap like Depay and Darmian

Glad to see you all in the Mata, Lingard and Rooney threads as well.

Dont forget Rojo... Been awful this half.

I just dont get what Memphis offers. Its like having a Nani mark 2. I just wish we kept the orginial :(

Convert him into a striker or give him a very goal-scoring orientated role. He seems like he doesn't have it in him to carry us up the pitch.

Would not be surprised if he is sold now.

the fecker drives Rolls royce and wears famous no7 shirt earning already extortionate money playing for one of the most famous clubs in the world and cant give a feck, changed my mind - sell him in the summer, cant hit one freekick on target all season :wenger:

I had time for him despite his poor performances. After today where he looked like he is doing us a favor, he can feck right off.

Exactly this. Seems everyone has found it very easy to have a pop in here but Mata and Lingard especially get off very easily
