Memphis Depay | Corinthians player

About just as much as the "He must be Fergies son" jokes in the early days of Darren Fletcher.

Patiences goes both ways, i'd guess that he was the one that wanted out. Still odn't think Depay or Zaha are all that good, neither seems like they would thrive in a team where the spotlight is always on them.
I think Depay has grown up and reached a more consistent level. He’s always good for Netherlands these days, whether it’s Germany or Northern Ireland he turns up.

zaha is a tricky one, he obviously gets a very free role at palace but he’s the type that can turn a game on its head by himself. If a top team could carry him like that then why not? The issue is palace won’t sell him for anything less than huge money so that’s why nobody has taken the risk.

17 matches under Koeman in total: 10 GOALS – 10 ASSISTS

12 matches of which against top nations: 3 GOALS – 6 ASSISTS

That’s for a Netherlands team in full rebuild mode as #9, with supporting strikers hardly rated here like Ryan Babel, Watford failure Steven Berghuis, Sevilla failure Quincy Promes and upcoming talents as Donnyel Malen, Justin Kluivert, Steven Bergwijn, Danjuma Groeneveld (Bournemouth) and Javairo Dilrosun)

Memphis not kidding for The Netherlands…

He always had big potential, no surprise he's starting to realize it.

Maybe leaving Man Utd was what he needed anyway, no guarantee we'd have been able to improve him given our recent track record.

Though i'd obviously prefer either one of them ahead of Pereira/Mata these days.
agree about both Depay and Zaha

United after SAF is like the place where careers go to die.

Agreed with that. Depay, from admittedly the little ive seen of him for his NT, has been excellent. But so too has Babel, iirc.

Still don’t rate Depay that much, albeit he has an excellent record for the Dutch.

Could we not have loaned him out? His ability was obvious. Just not a LW. Would love him in the 10 or 9 position for us right now.

He does it on the international stage too before the farmer league comments.

United has a buyback clause on him. I remember Jose mentioning that.

I'm sorry, some people are suggesting Man Utd buy back a flop player based on his performance against NORTHERN IRELAND!?

Doesn't mean much. A half decent PL side would walk all over any national team.

If he's so good why's he still at Lyon? This is his third year there since he left us...
Given the fact he seems to float on ego its probably easier to do that when you're one of the "stars" on that type of team and I can imagine that from a living standpoint Lyon is pretty nice - if only because of its close proximity to many other cool places. They also have done pretty well other than this season.

That about sums it up. Worth remembering that time Ben Arfa went from being really shit at Hull to tearing it up at Nice, and the subsequently being shit again at PSG.

Some players clearly revel from being the big dogs with lots of freedom and I think they're both similar.

Possibly. If he keeps this up he’ll go to a bigger club. We’ll see then if he has learned anything about attitude and willingness to be a teamplayer.

He wasn't good enough for us. I understand looking at renato sanches and pepe and syaing we should pay 70m for them because they might be good enough, in this case we know the player isn't

Just scored in 95th minute.

Space to run into he's a very effective striker. Just not convinced of him in tight games.

They made him captain and he turns to gold. With confidence he's great. Without he's league 1 level.

Couldnt that be said for just about every player out there?
Think some players need it more than others. A guy like Zlatan doesnt need to be told he's important to be the best he can be. With Memphis he needs to be constantly told he's special or his head will hang. He's obviously gifted, but when he's out of form he's so shite. It's like 2 different players.

He wasn't captain for this game, it's Denayer now. But it's clear that Garcia wants to build the team around him.

He’s class, we should buy him back ASAP.

Memphis in the 10 behind martial would be so much better.

Yes obviously - but players improve.

Chelsea fans said the same about Salah and KDB.

Neither of them were given chance in Chelsea as Depay here, he is just weak mentally and will obviously never make it for a top team. Both KDB and Salah proved themselves for top teams in England unlike Memphis who obviously didn't like the league either, he played better in European competition than in PL too. If he "proved" himself most of top teams would be around him at the moment, there is a reason why he is still at Lyon.

No, they didn’t prove themselves in England until they got their returns. They were even worse than Memphis the first time.

he plays consistently well for Holland, and plays well in the CL.

Clearly you don’t like him and that’s fine, but I think he’d make a good difference to us. Every attacker we had struggled under LVG, simple.

Atrocious defending for his goals there. Not really an advert for him to make it in the PL.

He's a player who will struggle to receive credit purely due to people's perception of him. He's obviously developing into a very good player.

When I look at him play now, he's still like the player when he was at PSV.
Obviously he's stats are better now but he still relies heavily on his superior physique (pace, agility, body balance).
Bringing him back and expecting him to automatically replicate his Lyon performance is naive.
As someone mentioned earlier, at the highest level, athletes need to have the required mentality and tactical acumen to succeed.
Depay was seemingly on the similar trajectory to Suarez: promising at Eredivise and then tearing it up in EPL but it didnt happen.
Both players have similar kind of physical trait, so what was the difference?

I'd have him any day over Lukaku.

Guy is a forward and didnt get many games to play that way here & once Rashford came through it made it extremely hard for him.

Looks to be consistent be that in league 1, national team or CL football.

If we were a team guaranteed to make top 4 every season then sure I'd look somewhere else - but considering the low quantity and quality of our squad, if we get the right attacking manager, I'd take getting memphis back as a CF forward as a very smart move.

Depay goal from yesterdays game vs Benfica. Nice one.

Lyon / Juninho's juts told that we have a clause to sign him first.

Is he worth bringing back?

On Paper 11 goals in 14 games in the French league is very good - He's entering his prime years, but he has the luggage of failing here at United. Does he fits into Ole's centerforward type?

He's a good player. A combination of LVG, us on a downturn and the player being perhaps too young and unsettled meant it didn't work out for Memphis here. I'm tempted to say never go back but I think he has all the tools to slot into the quick fluid front three Ole's trying to implement here.
