I love that social media post. Can he really be so lacking in self-awareness or is he in fact Sacha Baron Cohen's latest character, parodying the pretensions of the modern footballer?

He's hardly looked any good for the Dutch side either over the same period .

There was a point he was even dropped from it.And that is a very poor Dutch side.
And in the latest game he was the best player on their side, with no game time.

Everyone saw that he was bad last season, so indeed he was dropped. Has nothing to do with this season though.

Signing this fraud and giving him #7 was a huge mistake.
I mentioned at the time that he had to earn the number 7. To act as a carrot of sorts.

I don't think he was a fraud.I think he was a very promising young player that couldn't live up to the expectations. Partly because I'm not really convinced he is good enough. But he's not a pub player or a fraud as some have proclaimed.

I wish him well in future.I don't think it'll be here though.

Sensible post!

Memphis "believed in his own fame"
it hasn’t gone to plan for Memphis at United and there has been more criticism in his homeland.

Dutch pundit Johan Derksen told Sport/Foot:

“I’m very disappointed, like Louis Van Gaal, who did everything to get him. He was the biggest talent in the country, but what has he shown in England? Expensive cars, coats and hats. He believed in his own fame.

“Here in the Netherlands, we believe we’re heroes as soon as we kick a ball and go past a left-back. He underestimated English professionalism.”

Hasn't been able to adapt. In Holland it seemed he was faster and stringer than all the defenders and was able to easily cut in and shoot. In England the defenders are just as strong and fast.

I do think there is talent there but he is just so clueless on the left side.

Should play on the right or as a striker.

Weird amount of vitriol about a young kid in here.
Many people are jealous of wealth, fame etc. When they see somebody doing badly they can't wait to berate them. We've seen it with Pogba too, signed for silly money and can't wait to use it as an excuse against him, just because he likes fancy clothes, dancing and life in general. Very sad

One of the few players I wouldn't be sorry to lose and wonder 'what if'. Regardless of his off-field media persona (which is a bit annoying) on the pitch his performance and general attitude has been pish.

My enduring image of him as a player will be him on the floor having been robbed of the ball throwing his arms up in shock and dismay, seems to happen every game he plays.

He played yesterday for 23 minutes, but never got really into the match. The whole team was quite bad. He joined when The Netherlands were parking the bus, and they were barely attacking. I expect him to make an appearance again when they play against Luxembourg on Sunday

Here's a fun little interview with Memphis, which fans may enjoy.

Up close he does seem to be very bulky for a modern day footballer.
Comparing him to Giggs, Robben, Ribery, Di Maria, etc, he looks at least 25% thicker.
Hopefully he can find a new club soon and push on from there.

Another goal. Finally back against defences at his level.

Another goal. Finally back against defences at his level.

Unfortunately that's basically it.
Against poor opposition Memphis is actually very good.
But the moment you put him up against a EPL team, he falls to pieces.

Sounds like the Everton loan must of been agreed if there tweeting about him.

Stekelenburg is in goal for Holland, maybe it was just a reference to how Holland are doing because he's playing?

Treating minnows with cruelty only adds to reasons for getting rid of him.

Agrees move to another club, starts scoring goals. typical.
