So what are people's thoughts on why he rejected Utd's offer, did it come down purely to the fact that we weren't able to offer him champions league football or is the fact that Ole is still quite an unknown quantity as a coach on the continent played a part in his decision as well.

If he has turned us down due to Ole then there was nothing we could have done about that no matter where we finished last season, however if it came down purely to not getting top 4 then I will feel frustration at the players letting us down in April & May.

Ronaldo and Riola factor. I call it extended ronaldo project, to win champions league at juventus. Plus future commission for Riola when he moves.

Why would you choose juventus and the dead Italian league over man utd
- CL contender
- domestic trophies
- attraction of playing with star players (Ronaldo)
- attraction of playing with legendary defenders (Chellini)
- Juventus has always been one of the top European club

How are Juve going to afford his wages, along with Rabiot and Ramsey, on top of Ronaldo's?

Yup. Sadly if I had to pick between the two these days I d probably choose Juve too. Winning a lot is fun.

De Ligt, Skriniar, Koulibaly, Godín, Chiellini.... Serie A will have at least 5 of the top 10 defenders in the world

With this release clause, he'll be on the move in 2-3 years. If we can get our act together by then, we should be all over him.

We've been a complete mess for six years. Truly top players aren't going to want to come here until they believe we are on the way back up. Lack of CL, an unknown as a manager, six years of bad management at all levels, a playstyle that has been poor throughout that time, and a current team of players that aren't really ready to compete at the top...we need to show we are improving before top players will be interested again. The two world class players we do have both seem to be sick of waiting for us to get our shit together and want out, so it's not surprising other world class (or potential to be so) players have their doubts.

If we'd maintained the form (or close to it at least) that we'd had in the first two months after Ole took over throughout the rest of the season it might just have been enough. There was a real excitement at the time. Unfortunately it all fell apart in spectacular style, so the question now is whether it only fell apart because of the incredible injury list we suffered or whether the original form was just an outlier.

He didn’t reject us as much as chose Juventus. The Raiola- Nedved (who sits on the Juventus board) is very, very strong, and Raiola’s clients will only hear the best about Juve’s offers and structure. And they pay well and have no issues with. Raiola’s bonuses.

CL football and playing with Ronaldo are other factors. Serie A title is guaranteed too.

An added plus i my estimation, is that Serie A is very favorable for defenders. Italian teams defend well as a unit, and cb’s are protected. The tempo of the game is less than in the Premiership too. As for the big two in Spain, the CB’s are very much on an island constantly and have to cover a lot of space alone. Don’t know how that fits with de Ligts game.

Juventus is a good fit with him right now.

Lets be honest, we aren't in the best position right now. No CL football, our only "star players" are potentially leaving (Lukaku,Pogba,De Gea,Sanchez) and we have an unproven manager with an average squad.

He's got the chance to join any club in the world, whether we like it or not we just aren't the top choice right now. We need to strive to get back to the top of the food chain as we've fallen in the last 6 years.

Oh no, not Sanchez!

I ama guessing it is because Ramsey and Rabiot are free transfers so have probably saved 100m there. This summer, they would have spent just 60m on De Ligt. Great way to do business.

New tax law for new residents in italy, benefits them. We must pay him 23 m for himto get 12 m net, while Juve need to pay only 16.5 to him to net 12 m.

I can’t wait for him to just come out and say which club he is joining so we can all move on.

They want Pogba as well

Someone somewhere is obviously lying about their targets

Or they are linking themselves with superstars to boost their image and help them sign players and give the impression to selling clubs that they are going to have to stretch their money and bargain hard.

At 19-20 years old is there better defenders in the world to learn from than Bonucci and Chiellini and then take over from them ? I grew up on Serie A being the best league in the world in the late 80’s to mid 90’s and they’ve always had the best defenders in the world playing there, it’s a league tailor made for defenders to show their talent.

Then add in the fact that Ronaldo is his idol, Juve are a shoe in for the league title and going all out to win their first Champions League since 1996 (I think they’ve lost more finals than any other team) it makes it a very exciting project for him personally. There’s also the Raiola/Nedved relationship which means Raiola will always praise Juve to his clients and Raiola will always be able to sell Nedved on his clients too.

Juve will be very interesting to watch next Season. Good mix of charakter types, high quality squad, good coach.

It's not been officially confirmed but it seems close.

He rejected United so that's all we need to know.
I really fell for this muppet signing - the guy who posted about Rio announcing it (old / new era etc).

Yep it's a shame, it all made sense but realistically once PSG/Juve upped their wage offer to match ours there wasn't much we could do.

I'm sure if we were "the old united" he would happily play for us, you win some you lose some.

Juve??? How the feck can Juve afford him?. I can understand beeing outbid by arabs Barca and Real but Juve??

Juve are owned by the Agnelli family who own Fiat. They're richer than the Glazers by far.

Anyone else getting sick of this farce?

No, because i knew from the start he wont move here. The rest is just show, as usual with big money and name signings. He is the best defender on the market this summer, by far. It was always going to get milked, especially with the Nations League inbetween and Raiola looking for money. Barca didnt up their offer, so other clubs went in, Juve and PSG namely. Looks like Juve won the race.

Going to Juve I hear, good, we didn't want him anyway.:nervous: He'll get really fat won't he? At least that's what our scouts said a few years back!!!

It’s actually not the worst outcome. I didn’t really think he was a chance (although he would be the one signing I would make if there was a magic wand) of signing for us, so Juventus is the next best option out of Barca/PSG/Real/ and heaven forbid Man City or Liverpool.

We are at least half a chance of getting him for his next move ala Pogba if we can sort ourselves out.

What would everyone's reaction be if he came here but had a release clause over £100m?

I doubt any English club would get anywhere near his wage demands.

What figures are you reading? I haven’t seen anything, but surely we could match any wages Juventus and co offer??

$200-250k/week would be ok for us for De Ligt
I think it’s more the reported release clause rumoured they want in the contract which is putting other teams off of the bidding.

To be honest, judging by what psg has said, it's better if we avoid this man. He sounds very obnoxious and we all know what his agents like.

We would probably only get 3 odd years from him so there's no long term point.

If he comes with a release clause, I'm not terribly interested. I guess Raiola wants to avoid another Pogba situation where he can't move his player on after a couple of years.

I guess the good thing with us not getting him, is that we'd have 2 cbs that no English speaking commentator, or person could pronounce the name of
