Would slot right in at Bayern if Hummels left wouldn't he?

Bayern have said something about how much they'd pay for players but would the 75M Ajax is asking for be in their ballpark? (obv they can pay more but they've taken stances previously that they wouldn't)
They still need to replace both Ribery and Robben - and they have multiple quality center backs already. I doubt that they’re in the race.

I really think the reason why it's taking so long is De Ligt wants to make the best possible decision to help him develop. He's a down to earth guy, I don't believe it's about the money at all. He said so himself. Also, Raiola isn't his official agent, it's Barry Hulshof, so I'm not sure how they are working things out etc.

There are lot's of factors to take into consideration when you are that young and the world is at your feet. Make the wrong decision and you could very well fail to reach your potential. Look at Mbappe: chose PSG, allegedly for the money, and wants to leave already, probably because he'd wished he made a different choice a year ago. Matthijs doesn't want to end up in the same situation.

He's flying to London to change, then fly to Manchester with a helicopter just like Mata?

Raiola is also his official agent. Hulshof actually much less now, he acts more like an advisor and mental coach. Hulshof has basically no experience dealing with transfer and contract negotiations at this level, that's why De Ligt took on Raiola. What I know about De Ligt, he'll prioritise his development and ambitions over money, but will use Raiola to get the best deal possible in that regard.

Yeah, but how do you know that?

Someone said that the hype died down when PSG entered the fray. They/He/She was right. It cratered. United and Barcelona are money, not PSG.

I’ve actually given up in this thread so rather than scroll through countless missed pages can someone tell me what I’ve missed if anything at all ? Is still going to Barca ? Is he off to PSG ? Or is joining us ?

Just from everything he's said over the years while at Ajax, and everything he's said recently about his upcoming transfer, but also why he hired Raiola etc. People think he'll go for money just because Raiola is his agent, but everything De Ligt has said points towards him choosing what he thinks is best for his career as a player.

Very little chance it is us though since no Journo that I know of has linked him to us in the last couple of weeks. Barca/PSG bound.

Well he's hardly going to say I'm choosing my next club based on how much they pay is he?

It's not just that, just in general the image I got from him at Ajax the past years, the kind of person he is, how he thinks about football etc. He's a really down to earth guy, reminds me of players like Vertonghen and Blind. Not really materialistic. More likely to see him riding a bike here in Amsterdam than in a sports car. I remember Dolberg in an interview a few months ago, he was talking about the Ajax squad's fashion sense, and he was shit talking De Ligt because he doesn't spend money on clothes, wears the same Adidas shoes he got from his sponsor every day for more than a year to the point they're completely worn down. He's just not that caught up in all the money and luxury stuff.

Can you search your brain database of De Ligt's psyche for information as to his favourite colour? Could give us even more insight as to who he's gonna opt for.

Oh come on. You can tell a lot about a persons character the way they present themselves to the world. And De Ligt is a more down to earth guy than most players, at least it seems.

The Sun adds two and two and gets 426: supposedly this is a horror story for us - until you reach the bit where it's pretty much about Van gaal three or four years ago...

De Ligt said "no" to Barca. Mino Raiola, representative of the player, has rejected the Barca's offer and the footballer respects the decision of his agent.

Respects decision of his agent, that sounds like horseshit tbh, if true on other hand, then game is so fecked, why even care.

Nowhere near as keen on this as I was previously.

I think its because of the Pogba nonsense, and the expectation that it'd happen with this guy in 3 or so years as well.

Now if we were smart we'd toss Juve a Pogba carrot to distract them from going for De Ligt, we can't do anything about PSG, but I'd be amazed if he lowered himself to that league, and Bayern are quite strict with their wage structure and signing amounts, so surely we can beat them if needed.

I'm not one for conspiracies, but we've let the press talk alot of crap about our defender targets recently, could be all a nice distraction from what's actually going on, although Woodward been capable of this is a major stumbling block.

Barcelona are set at CB for a couple of years with Pique, Umtiti and Lenglet. De Ligt should really not be a priority for them this summer. Especially if they are going to bring in Griezmann and maybe even Neymar this summer. And I think what we are seeing is Barcelona not being keen enough.
I can completely understand if De Ligt goes with a club that actually needs him, shows a real intererest (and yeah, the wages are part of that) and practically guarantees him playing time.
Its overkill to start talking about "moneygrabber" when there actually is very good arguments for why he should not choose Barcelona this summer.

They also signed Todibo, 6 month ago. That alone should make you doubt Barcelona, they signed a young defender that has the same age and 6 months later try to spend a fortune on De Ligt, who says that they are not going to do the same next summer on the new flavour of the month? If I was an agent, I wouldn't want to deal with the current Barcelona board.

He's definitely coming here.
If he wants minutes, he won't go to Juve as even Rugani hasn't broken into their side yet. PSG have Marquinhos and Thisago as well as Kimpembe; Bayern have just broken the bank for Hernandez and they brought in Pavard as well.

Barcelona can’t afford him this window so essentially whoever signs him is getting him on a 1-2 year loan before he goes to Barcelona which has been his preferred destination all along. Raiola is happy because this gets him 2 huge pay days at least.

If he’s smart he comes here or to Juventus because both will gleefully take the money when it’s time to go. PSG definitely won’t and Bayern isn’t the easiest to negotiate with either.

I have been saying that since they signed Todibo. I thought that it meant they were out of the De Ligt race.
