I really think the reason why it's taking so long is De Ligt wants to make the best possible decision to help him develop. He's a down to earth guy, I don't believe it's about the money at all. He said so himself. Also, Raiola isn't his official agent, it's Barry Hulshof, so I'm not sure how they are working things out etc.

Raiola is also his official agent. Hulshof actually much less now, he acts more like an advisor and mental coach. Hulshof has basically no experience dealing with transfer and contract negotiations at this level, that's why De Ligt took on Raiola. What I know about De Ligt, he'll prioritise his development and ambitions over money, but will use Raiola to get the best deal possible in that regard.

Just from everything he's said over the years while at Ajax, and everything he's said recently about his upcoming transfer, but also why he hired Raiola etc. People think he'll go for money just because Raiola is his agent, but everything De Ligt has said points towards him choosing what he thinks is best for his career as a player.

It's not just that, just in general the image I got from him at Ajax the past years, the kind of person he is, how he thinks about football etc. He's a really down to earth guy, reminds me of players like Vertonghen and Blind. Not really materialistic. More likely to see him riding a bike here in Amsterdam than in a sports car. I remember Dolberg in an interview a few months ago, he was talking about the Ajax squad's fashion sense, and he was shit talking De Ligt because he doesn't spend money on clothes, wears the same Adidas shoes he got from his sponsor every day for more than a year to the point they're completely worn down. He's just not that caught up in all the money and luxury stuff.

Now if we were smart we'd toss Juve a Pogba carrot to distract them from going for De Ligt, we can't do anything about PSG, but I'd be amazed if he lowered himself to that league, and Bayern are quite strict with their wage structure and signing amounts, so surely we can beat them if needed.

Barcelona are set at CB for a couple of years with Pique, Umtiti and Lenglet. De Ligt should really not be a priority for them this summer. Especially if they are going to bring in Griezmann and maybe even Neymar this summer. And I think what we are seeing is Barcelona not being keen enough.
I can completely understand if De Ligt goes with a club that actually needs him, shows a real intererest (and yeah, the wages are part of that) and practically guarantees him playing time.

We're unlikely to deal with Raiola while the Pogba situation is still festering.
They also signed Todibo, 6 month ago. That alone should make you doubt Barcelona, they signed a young defender that has the same age and 6 months later try to spend a fortune on De Ligt, who says that they are not going to do the same next summer on the new flavour of the month? If I was an agent, I wouldn't want to deal with the current Barcelona board.

Alternatively we can leverage this due to the Pogba situation. If de Ligt is listening to Raiola then tell him we will let Pogba go to Real Madrid only in the event that we have de Ligt signed, sealed and delivered.

Barcelona can’t afford him this window so essentially whoever signs him is getting him on a 1-2 year loan before he goes to Barcelona which has been his preferred destination all along. Raiola is happy because this gets him 2 huge pay days at least.
