Ballon d'Or winners in the last 50 years:

1 from League 1
2 from Ukraine
2 from Eredivisie
2 from EPL
9
from Bundesliga
17 from La Liga
17 from Serie A

It should be noted that some of these numbers are inflated due to transfers, like Cruyff joining Barca, Ronaldo N. joining Madrid etc., but all in all EPL hasn't been quite the Ballon d'Or land, though there are cases like Keegan winning it twice at Hamburg.

Why are you going back 50 years? Football has changed so much in 20
years that you are basically talking about a different sport back then. I mean a player from Ukraine or the Eredivisie aren’t going to win it nowadays.

A more accurate representation would be since 2000. That is broken down as follows:

La Liga: 14
Serie A: 3
PL: 2

Obviously La Liga is out well on top thanks to Ronaldo and Messi. Aside from Ronaldo very few top players are moving to Serie A.

Most of the worlds top players are playing in Spain and England these days so it’s inevitable that Balon D’Or winners will be coming from these leagues for the next few years.

People say these things and act like the likes of City and Barca are challenged every week.

Yes but at least there tends to be a title race in these leagues. Aside from the odd season the league is generally decide in France, Germany and Italy by March/April. You can’t possible say the teams down the bottom of those leagues are as good as what’s on offer in La Liga and particularly the PL. The way City and Liverpool blew away teams last season isn’t the norm in England but it is in those other less competitive leagues.

It means that for the likes of Neymar and M’bappe very little weight is placed on their league performances and they have to rely on the Champions League and international tournaments to prove themselves.

I got De Ligt at even money to join Barca, if he goes to PSG I’m going over to that club and hanging a big flag of Evra celebrating an English club beating them in their own stadium.

Should just bet on PSG too, he's 5/1 to join them.

Interestingly Liverpool are now second favourites to sign him on Skybet.

£20 would cover my Barca bet! I just can’t see him going to PSG, who in their right mind would pick PSG over Barca ?

Someone that wants an absolute s*** load of money and play in a crappy league that you know are guaranteed to have it won before Halloween without any real main difficulty.

Loads of players would. PSG is a rich club. They pay a great deal of wages. They win the league every year. While people like to mock them for crashing out of CL, despite leading in a leg and all, they are trying every year and they will eventually start going further.

You can get that at Barca and play in one of the best leagues in europe or come to Utd and earn loads and play with J Lingz

He seems to have a level head on his shoulders , he’s 19 I’m pretty sure it’s Barca he’ll choose over that shower.

Nobody literally cares about the Ligue 1. That league gets decided within first 4-5 weeks. The only meaningful games they play are in the CL.

La Liga used to be a 2 horse race for years. Bundesliga was just a formality for many years.
Fans (of other leagues) may look down upon Ligue 1. But I doubt if players do the same.
The PSG are going to try for CL. And are also filthy rich. And Paris is a big city loved by many celebrities. Except a long history, PSG have the tools to do well in Europe too.
I am not saying he will go to PSG over Barca. Maybe he wouldn't. But I don't think players look at only one aspect (history) when choosing a club.

I never said "meaningful" trophies. I said trophies. As for the weather - Paris is consistently 5 degrees warmer than Manchester! Jeez. Maybe "this rhetoric" is getting old because - I don't know - it's true?!
As for the "more money" bit, I'm basing this on assumption. I read in a random, questionable report that PSG wants to offer him £240 000 p/w. I went on to assume that we wouldn't pay that much. I could easily be wrong here.

My point stands - to say that PSG can ONLY offer a better squad is just blinkeRED.

There’s barely any difference in temperatures apart from height of summer max. and even then, that is when players either go home to country of origin or somewhere with a better climate than Paris for a holiday. Whatever, nobody would make the weather a reason to go to Paris over Manchester. There’s barely any difference throughout the winter, which is when they spend their time there. Either way, we haven’t a clue what is going on. He may have already decided and it’s just a case of fleshing out the numbers or he is playing one club against the other, with Raiola pulling the strings. Purely a hunch but I reckon he knows where he wants to go but it isn’t entirely in his hands. If we are not even in for him, I really despair and after more than 50 years supporting United, I would really give up, because as we always feared, the owners are not prepared to let United act like the biggest club in the world but prefer to prop up their poorly performing interests in the US courtesy of United’s profitability

no de ligt, Koulibaly too expensive. Oh god, it's going to be the chuckle brothers again for a whole season isn't it?

Verweij is simply speculating in the video. He never actually says he has any info. Kinda like the Simon Stone tweet a couple of weeks back.

Ligue One may well suck in terms of quality and competitiveness but the Bundesliga along with La Liga are heading in the same direction as is slowly but surely the Premier League.

If we can't get De Ligt and Koulibaly is too expensive, imo just throw tuanzebe in the deep end with lindelof.

More money? I doubt it. Probably the same we are willing to offer him.
PSG and Man City players wages are likely much bigger than reported.

I don't think that "normal" clubs like Barca and ManUtd are able to compete with them.

As i said before. Verweij was 100% sure De Jong would go to PSG.

I thinks he's Barca bound.

and he was going to PSG until Barca came in with a far higher bid literally just a week before the transfer was announced. Literally De Jong himself talks about that

I really wouldn’t be surprised if a lot of the City and PSG players have offshore accounts being filled handsomely by money that flows out of the Middle East and never goes anywhere near City or PSG accounts.

Where?

I know PSG was a serious option. But i never read or heard he was on the brink of joining them.

I don't know, if he was so keen on Barca then i think he would have signed/ been announced already like De Jong was and he would have stayed quiet instead of talking about the Premier League, many clubs, etc. This one looks to have more of a Man Utd signing feel then a Barca one. United likes to torture its fans with such sagas :D

While I believe we have zero chance of getting him anyway, I’m also somewhat wary of the idea despite his quality.

Bringing in heavily hyped 19 year old on crazy money to struggling club full of greedy, mentally weak mercenaries with Raiola as his agent, what could possibly go wrong?

Right now, Koulibaly is probably the more prudent choice.

I like your optimism:D
