If your continued allegiance to United is dependent on whether or not we make a particular transfer then maybe it wasn’t that strong to begin with?

So I’d say don’t bother regardless.

Don't worry about it, my allegiance has remained the same through all these shit years so I don't see it changing.
It will be just sad to start a season knowing that the best we can hope for is 5th place. Even in our shittiest seasons there was always hope of UCL at the very least. Hence why I still refuse to believe there could be no new CB in this window.
Sad that the board can crap continuously in our club and still the supporters behave like sheep. All this patience and lenience has enabled them do reduce the club to tatters.

As things stand United, Arsenal and Chelsea (and... nah...) could all realistically end fourth. So, the best we can hope for is fourth. We are one awesome signing away from hoping for third.

I hope he opts for barca over PSG if this are his only options. Can't see a generational talent being wasted in a nothing league just like what is happening with mbappe

I think the links to PSG are just his agent trying to get more money from Barca or whoever gets him.

Apparently it's France we've to worry about. I refuse to believe PSG can tempt De Ligt but we can't.

Exactly. There is nothing that PSG can offer that we can't, except a better squad, but we can definitely offer things PSG can't.
I can understand it if he goes to Barca or Juventus but PSG... come on.

Let's see:
  1. Better squad
  2. Trophies
  3. Champions league
  4. Paris
  5. Nice weather
  6. More money
Apart from these we have MUCH more to offer.

I refuse to believe he wants to go French league. He is an ambitious guy and he wants top competition. La liga and Premier league.

The "Youth Courage Success" line was definitely used as a buildup to his signing (like Peach said). Going full muppet here, this is how we'll be using this line in his unveiling:
Youth: Him winning Golden Boy
Courage: That clip where he played with bandage arpund his head, his tackles against Bayern and all these games
Success: Him lifting all the trophies with Ajax

Let's see:
  1. Better squad
  2. Trophies
  3. Champions league
  4. Paris
  5. Nice weather
  6. More money
Apart from these we have MUCH more to offer.

Trophies? Winning the French league 10 times equals to about one premier league.
Nice weather? Oh please, it’s Paris not the caribbean.
More money? I doubt it. Probably the same we are willing to offer him.

Yeah joining PSG for the Champions league, might as well have joined Arsenal if they had made it to the CL then

Trophies? Firstly, he's 19 and is not at the end of his career. If trophies is what he is after, surely Barca would be a much better destination?

Really hope he doesn't go to PSG at this stage in his career, like Mbappe.

Why is that? You're not making a lot of sense here tbh. The international window isn't even open yet and a deal can be done in days

And a decision about moving to another country isn't one that any sane person makes in days. Like I said if he truly hasn't decided by now then another couple of weeks surely won't help but alas like I said I don't believe him for a minute. He knows full well where he's going next season

At United he will be a starter and someone we would build our defense around. Everything i'm hearing from him sounds like he chose United. Time will tell but it's looking very promising.

I think he's made up his mind that he's leaving. Don't know if he knows to what club though. I'm sure he has a preference but that's just one factor and I wouldn't find it strange at all if he looks at all the offers on the table after the nations league and makes his final decision then.

I've decided. Rejoice fellow muppets! He's joining us.

In, what I see as, the unlikely event he came to Utd of course he would be a starter. He's better than anything we have. I'm trying not to be cynical but Barca are better than us and his mate plays there. I also think if he came, he'd be off to Spain in a few years anyway, regardless of how successful Utd are.

I know I sound negative, but I really struggle to see him wanting to go to a project like this when he can rock up to one of the best teams in the world. If he did come, great. I'm zoning out all this nonsense now until he actually commits to something.

Choosing whether to leave Holland for England or Holland for France or Holland for Spain isn't something you just flip a coin over. People forget this is peoples real lives we're talking about, you don't suddenly decide on moving to England for example on a whim. He knows exactly where he's going

People can't believe a 19year old with a couple of good seasons in him would want to go to PSG, when Neymar, a world great, and Mbappe, the biggest hyped teenager of recent years both went there?

I think a lot of football fans forget this.

To most of us, moving 50miles away for a new job would be huge, let alone to a new country!

I'm sure him and his family have done loads of research on this. I'm sure the results of this will be taken into account when making the final decision.

I obviously don't rate the French league, but to say PSG can ONLY offer a better squad sounds hyperbolic and contemptuous.

It's important to remember that if a club like Liverpool has been able to attract some of the worlds best players, like van Dijk, Alisson, Torres, Suarez, etc while having not won a single prem in 30 years, then a significantly more prestigious club like United can definitely attract the same caliber of players.

We are all a bit depressed about the last few years, but let's be a realistic. United is still one of the biggest clubs in the World and for the first time in 4 or 5 years there is actually a plan in place and a manager that wants to play football the right way. Clubs like Real and Barca have had plenty of mediocre results in terms of promoting/ making use of young players that they've bought. I don't have to be a United fan to see why a player like De Ligt would see United as the best option for him. We already have a set of very good players, we just need to add the missing links.

You have clearly not supported United nearly long enough :)

Preach

This chap needs to get on and decide, so that we can have a week or 2 of moaning about everything, and how crap we are at transfers.

Then get back on with things.

Sorry, none of this here.

Whenever a great prospect is lost out by the PL and Liga teams, it's jealousy and arrogance that fuels most of these complaints of farmer's league and wasting one's career there in the goal to win one of the biggest cities in Europe its first Champion's League, masqueraded as caring for the player's legacy.

It mostly comes from the Premier league fans more than anything because some (not all, mind) are an entitled bunch that feels every great player should be gracing their stadiums, and conveniently forget many of those great players come from those leagues they call 'pub leagues', if they don't poach them from their formative clubs before they even make their debut in it.

Personally, I'm hoping very much for De Ligt coming to PSG just so I can wash myself in those delicious tears and bitterness that will inevitably pour out on here.

Probably silly to even ask this here but are you really a more prestigious club as opposed to simply a more supported club? Liverpool and United are pretty much two sides of the same coin as far as prestige goes. 20 vs 18 for United in league titles and 6 vs 3 in CL for Liverpool. Doesn't scream one's dominance and prestige over the other, personally.

I like your enthusiasm and positivism though, but I'm curious what the plan is that's in place and whether Ole can actually execute it? Or why you feel even a neutral should see how De Ligt's best option is Manchester United? De Ligt is not really a youth player at this point, he will start wherever he goes, and every club seems to want him. Why would he settle for a club that has yet to show they actually have a plan, or the team/manager to execute it while trying to find their way back into Europe? I think it takes exactly being a United fan to believe the club is his best option.

I'm thinking the same thing.

Plus, the lack of proper competition is probably good at this stage of the career of a young player destined for greater things.

.

Oh there's no doubt about it that PSG is classic money over ambition. And these players don't realise that it's going to be very hard for them to engineer a way back out of PSG later on.

BUT, having said that I don't think anyone can argue that De Gea and Pogba for example, two world class stars, aren't wasting their talent pissing about in a team finishing 6th in a league for goodness sake!

But it's not hard to engineer a move out of PSG, you simply run down your contract and refuse an extension. Players are not held against their will. PSG will not sell their best players, I commend them for that, but players are free to leave once their contract is up.

At 19, there's no rush for him to do anything, and the money he can earn instantly will be higher at PSG than anywhere.
My worry for him would be that PSG aren't an easy club to get out of. Neymar and Mbappe show that. You can tell both want out really, but a club so wealthy that they can bully and outbid Barcelona, aren't going to be messed about by a single player.

He could end up stuck there until 24 or so, which is still young, but too many years there wouldn't be great for his development.

But PSG works for a number of reasons, iconic City, a step up of a league, rather than going into the top leagues, guaranteed start, highest wage, cast of top players, next to guaranteed trophies.
Shorter flight away than Spain.

They won't be buying an 80m defender without slapping him on at least a 5 year deal. Probably a 6 year.
