Can’t believe we’re not in for De Ligt.

He’s quality and would absolutely improve us but hey this is Manchester United and this signing would make too much sense for us so no thank you.

Woop there it is.

That baseless fecking phrase is haunting this forum.

Maybe we got the hint he has his eyes firmly on Barcelona. That is circulating around. Can't believe it's only March and there's already crying over a transfer.

Probably because clubs are getting their transfer targets sorted now.

If not the prime targets then the secondary targets are being identified.

Re Deligt; I think he already knows where he wants to go, and it's not England

Thats what I'm saying, he wants to go there apparently so even if we were in for him he probably wouldn't want to come. I just find those posts about not being or being in for someone funny. As if it's common knowledge who are we in for.

Who knows if we didnt inquire or not? Maybe he didnt want to come here, simple as that!

The 'can't believe we're not in for him,' brigade are hilarious.

As if everyone at the club just watches soap operas and reality programmes as part of their job description and not world football.

Yeah, why doesn't the club put all the names we're in for on the board so everyone can be calm or get furious if their name is not there. Clowns.

Yeah this looks dead before it started. Koulibaly always seemed more likely, though there are rumours Zidane wants him and that Napoli would want in excess of £95MIL for a player who turns 28 in the summer. Doubt we will buy him either.

I'm not saying don't upgrade, but honestly there's probably only 2-3 out there that could be better, and would be available.

De Ligt/Koulibaly? I'm not sure who else. Smalling is better than you give him credit for. Since he came back fully fit he's been excellent.
He's had spells of brilliance and ridicilousness in his time here. I don't see anything to suggest this isn't just another good spell, and theres an error around the corner

Van Der Sar mentioned Fergie was a big fan, pretty sure we likely enquired

At least he’s not going to partner VanDick as the scousers we’re hoping for

Jaap, Edwin and Ruud need to get in his ear

Could have signed both tbh - he didn't go for crazy money from what I can remember

We couldn't have signed Umtiti, the reason he went for that fee is because of an agreement with Aulas regarding Barcelona. Since he is a fan of Barcelona, Lyon were willing to let him go for a reasonable fee.

Been saying for a while this guy is Barca bound. There are still other options out there. I think Milenkovic is a hidden gem in the making but who am I, I've been wrong many times in the past. Then theres those super expensive ones like Koulibaly and Škriniar but yeah De Ligt would be the best signing we could have possibly made for that position but like I've said in the past, once a player has his heart set on Barca there is very little you can do to prevent them from ending up there.

I believe Sampdoria's Joachim Andersen is a 22 year old emerging star in his first season as a regular starter in a top 5 league. He has good range and accuracy in his passing and appears comfortable at left CB, qualities Manchester United's CB position and Ole's counter attacking scheme are in need of. He's also a physical beast at 192cm and 90kg. Transfermarkt has a $22m price tag on him.

Drives me mad every window.
It's a maddening combination of entitlement, pessimism and pure ignorance.

If I remember right it was being rolled out by the same posters when City were supposedly buying Sanchez. And yet on they go, spouting their uniformed bluster if we're not linked with every single half-promising player on the planet.

This transfer is not dead, we have an insider in Edwin van de Sar working at Ajax, of course we have dialogue and will have the opportunity to match any offer received.
Whoever signs De Ligt this summer wanted him more.

Eh? Or he simply wanted to join whoever more. He's not a piece of meat, he's got the biggest say.

Still think that we have a chance. Unlike Barca, we can offer him a starting place (maybe even leader in defence) immediately, while there he will probably have to wait a year or two to become a starter. If we make him a great offer (not only in financial terms), we can hopefully tempt him.

If Barcelona want him bad enough, then that's where he will end up like De Jong. We could throw as much money as we want at him and it won't change anything..

we don't have a chance to make this transfer. even if England was possibility he would go to Liverpool to play next to VVD. there's other centre backs out there we should stop wasting time on this kid.

Source is someone from Catalan Radio which is a solid source usually.
If so, they'll have Piqué, Lenglet, Umtiti, De Ligt, Vermaelen, Todibo and Murillo. Although Umtiti just came back from a long injury, and Pique turning 32 last month, I'd say buying De Ligt would be a little too extravagant? They just got in Todibo too, so I think there's still some hope left.

The story is, that Barca told De Ligt that he would have to fight for a place in the team due to the competition and De Ligt is ready for the challenge.

For 70 mill Euros he's a steal. CB position sorted for a decade plus.

The amount of money Barca has spent is ridiculous. 110 rising to 140 for Coutinho, 110 rising to 160 for Dembele, 70 for De Jong and now 70 for De Ligt, plus all those 30-40 mill deals like that Sevilla CB, Arthur and others. But they have a very good pool of youngsters now, Dembele, De Jong, De Ligt and Arthur have the potential to be best in their position.

We are not bad as we have Rash, Martial, Lindelof who can all become very good players but none of them are as talented as the Barca youngsters.

True but if you ask me it’s all value for money. And even if some of them don’t produce you can still sell them for a decent amount of money. We could learn a thing or two from barcelona’s transfer policy

If we had the right people and structure for a longer time, I could see us getting such players

This one could end up being the best so it's a shame if we don't get him. But sadly I see him going to Barca.

I think we would put a bid in for him, but he may want to go to Barca. Think he could be immense, and is the sort of player that may well fit the DNA of what Ole and the coaching staff want for this club. I also think that Tuanzebe could be very very good player for us over the next few years (I know, wrong forum).

Barca always stockpile players they don't really need, they'll accuse everyone of having Barca DNA to lure them in and when it turns out they don't fit their system at all they move them on. Pique did mention he was going to retire earlier than usual something to do with focusing on his business career.

I don't have much hope. We do have a shot because we can offer.money/starting spot and maybe have VDS put in a word. However I don't see it.

When was the last time we were in for a highly sought out young talent ready to play, and fought off competition from Real/Barca etc and managed to get them? Never?

Our only chance in such situations is with english/British talent such as Rio/Rooney and thats why we need to be after Sancho.

Barcelona are incredibly well run, so its not a surprise. They'll sell Lenglet to a PL club for £40m and that's more than half of De Ligts' fee financed.

I envy those cnuts.

Solved it! Let De Ligt do whatever he wants.

Our new DoF here!

..and our new centre-half there!

:D

It's not even all about being well run, Barca is simply a more attractive destination than us currently, there's no shame in admitting it.

Indeed. We've had 6 years out in the wilderness - we're obviously not going to be first in the waiting list for all the best talent in Europe.

They bought him for 35m so how is that well run? We can also sell Lindelof for 40m if we want.

Because they'll be able to sell him for a profit if he's not required, how much do you think we can get for Rojo if we were to sell him? (Dunno why you're talking about Lindelof as he's clearly the first choice CB for us right now)

They sold Yerry Mina for £30m to Everton last summer, ditto for Gomes. So yes, they are incredibly well run.

Barca are a football club that handle their business so they can achieve one goal: be the best possible sporting club.

We are a business that has a football club with one goal: make as much of a return on investment as possible.

You cannot expect a for-profit business to compete with a charity.
