Can’t believe we’re not in for De Ligt.

He’s quality and would absolutely improve us but hey this is Manchester United and this signing would make too much sense for us so no thank you.

How are people saying we should stick with what we have like there's only two defenders out there that could improve us :wenger: the panic button gets pressed so quickly.

We proud to call ourselves the biggest club but this shows how the biggest club operate unlike us. Best young player in a position we lack quality and nothing from us thus far. Barcelona bagging two world class talents from Ajax while we will have to shop from the second shelf. No wonder we've been miles behind the best clubs in the world.

I was hoping Barca would be out of cash, thus putting ManUtd into the frame for him.

Barca are building quite a squad...

It must be so handy being able to have any player in Europe or South America. feck Barcelona scum.

We proud to call ourselves the biggest club .
I always find ourselves saying that as cringe worthy. Clearly we aren't if that's not how we operate. Probably have the most fans, but that means nothing if it doesn't translate to the transfer market, or in footballing results.

Talents like de Ligt will want to join a team which will battle for some big trophies like the UCL and the league title and sadly Man Utd is not that team at the moment. Barcelona certainly is. Add the other factors like the Ajax/Barcelona similarities and de Jong also going and it's a no brainer. All that was missing was Barcelona's wallet and they seem to have found it.

I doubt throwing more money at him would change a thing. Same goes for the tricks of that fat Italian.

Can't believe we won't go for him. Oh well Jones and Rojo for another 10 years.

We could go for him, but there's no way we're getting him ahead of Barca. Even with ridiculous wage offers and big transfer fees. Money isn't always the most important thing. It's a shame, but I'd rather miss out on him because he's going there than City for example.

Still think it's likely one of them will be moved on (Rojo most likely) and I've a feeling Tuanzebe will be given a chance next season. And rightly so. I just hope the club don't think that'll be enough to solve our CB issues. Also, how reliable is Catalunya Radio?

Unfortunately Barca/Ajax have that special bond through Cruyff. They see it as natural progression and the "right" move.

I still think we will go for Koulibaly, or wait until the next superstar comes along. Smalling/Lindelof really aren't that bad when in top form so it's not that urgent IMO.

Look at how much Van Djik alone has improved Liverpool. A top class CB will do wonders for our side, can't believe people would be happy with settling with what we have.

How are Barcelona affording all these players, they spend hundreds of millions every summer.

There's people in this thread! Saying if we can't get De Ligt or Koulibaly we should stick with what we have, like those are the only defenders in the world who could improve us, it's bizarre.
Not seen much of those tbh.

Definitely should put in a bid for him. It'd be an investment if nothing else. Defenders from the Dutch league have a good track record realising their potential too. C'mon Edwin, work your magic!

The joys of not having owners who take money out of the club. Barcelona like ourselves could probably spend £250m+ every season if they wanted to.

I'd personally sign Milenkovic from Fiorentina or even Joachim Andersen from Sampdoria.
Milenkovic has the potential to be a monster in the air and the rest of his game stacks up too.

Ibrahima Konate

Pretty much any player in world football. Once Real and Barca come calling, nine times out of ten the player will go to them without a second thought. It’s kinda disheartening to be honest.

People aren’t happy, we are just being realistic. When the club signs smalling and jones to 4 year extensions on massive wages, there is no chance we are going to sign a top cb in the near future.

Still can't believe we offered jones an extension, just wtf were we thinking?

Sorry to derail this thread.

He would love a crazy offer from United. Then do a Frenkie as he did with the PSG offer, use it to get a better contract at Barca.

This one is probably a no go. Even if Barca dont get him, we will have the likes of Juve and Real to fight off. At the moment, we cant compete for these players when they are on the verge of world class, you need to buy them when they are young and develop them or you spot a gem that can step up, like Liverpool with van Dijk. We arent good enough in both departments.

We need a new CB in the summer who is better than what we have, thats for sure. The likes of Bailly, Jones and Rojo are not worth mentioning, leaving us with Lindelöf and Smalling, who are both good with some limitations, but we are missing a beast in there.

'Not playing CL regularly doesn't make United any less attractive a proposition than Barca/Real/Bayern/Juve because we will throw more money at the targets'

We're never going to sign the best players in the world over the bigger clubs till we become a consistent CL club, again. Pogba was the only aberration because of his youth connection and Mourinho.

Smalling has been our best defender during our worst spell as a club in 30 years.

How does that warrant more time? The like of Jones and Rojo should be shipped off and Smalling should be a back up. That's it.

I'm not saying don't upgrade, but honestly there's probably only 2-3 out there that could be better, and would be available.

De Ligt/Koulibaly? I'm not sure who else. Smalling is better than you give him credit for. Since he came back fully fit he's been excellent.
