This place if he signs for Liverpool now
I don't think they will, they have a lot of faith in Gomez. Before his injury he was looking every bit the part, I don't think they'd shell out £75m on a position they're already really strong in.

Honestly, if this is true then all the done deal to Barca bullshit tweets that were produced yesterday should be highlighted and banned from Muppet season.
Nonsense just to talk when they know nothing of whats going on

Maybe Barca are playing the long game? His value is sky high now, and there isn't a better club in Europe at depreciating player values than Manchester United.

They'll take him off our hands in a few years for half the price.

feck it, I may as well ask this now and risk the wrath of the authorities.

Ok, here goes.

How many pages?

City aren't shy of offloading players, they have a few and game time might be an issue still. De Ligt would be the main man at United. If it goes tits up he can leave when 21-22 while learning a lot in the deep end.

He'll eventually lower his demands, and end up at Barca. Pure strategy from Barca to lower his demands.

As we were.

Pretty sure everything I've read is €14m a year.

Oh, well that's a little more reasonable.

1) He's a world-class player and will only get better, so him being 19 does not mean we should pay him less.

2) He would (understandably) go elsewhere if we didn't offer him this much money, so naturally the offer we would make is higher than we'd ideally want to pay.

I don't doubt that his unquestionable ability justifies such a large salary offer, but paying a 19-year-old £350k a week is a dangerous precedent to set. If he continues to develop, and there is every reason to believe he will given his tender age, he will be demanding regular salary rises to match his increasing ability. He could end up breaking £1 million a week before he turns 30.

Then again, if he goes the other way, turns to shit within a few years like many United players have in recent years, then we're stuck with a dud on a frankly ludicrous salary that we simply cannot shift. We don't need another Sanchez scenario.

I'm just saying, paying a young lad such a large salary does not come without risk. Nothing is certain in football, no matter how good we think he is or will be in the future,

There will be some anti muppet like Ballbag or odgen coming in with opinions to spoil out dreams... Fear not when this happens muppets, find the silver lining, there's always an explanation, never give up... Never surrender. We go again

I think Barca asked him to give them some time, to think about our offer and if they are willing to match it. Maybe the Barca board dont think he's very important, they have Pique who is still very good plus Lingelet. That Tobido kid is supposed to be good too and they seemed to have failed to find a suitor for Umtiti. Add that to Suarez injury, I feel they will feel the need to get an attacking player in. Hence the supposed Barca mouthpiece with the report that Barca don't want him because he asking for way too much

This is probably my most visited thread the last months! He will obviously be our first choice CB, and seeing as he plays well with Blind he should be able to play well with Lindelof as well - right? Can he play LCB?

yeah he can pass with both feet. i think he would play better on lcb, since he's the type of guy who would give Luke Shaw and Paul Pogba an earful when they get lazy. They got away with it because Smalling is a coward.

This saga is a particularly rough one. We've had sagas in the past that have ended in tears, many of those sagas under Sir Alex when we already had a great side and we knew we'd be fine in the following season anyway.

Its almost unfair how much we need this signing. It could change everything. Will be really disappointing if he goes to Barca / Juve, and Liverpool is unthinkable.

My fear is City come in with a late bid...Imagine having that same fear 20 years ago- you'd have been locked up

Barca aren't half going to look great when he chooses them after all, just for the love and less money of course.

Weren't you pretty pessimistic during the Pogba saga as well?

Of course, I've never really recovered since the Thiago Alacantra heartbreak.

That said I'm fairly dead to any player we sign nowadays, too many would be superstars have turned to crap for us to get that excited about it, but surely even we couldn't ruin De Ligt if we somehow pulled it off.

This is the weirdest transfer saga ever. English journos saying he will end up in Spain, Spanish ones say the opposite.
