As we said, no transfer saga is complete without a proper 48 hour story. I have missed this feeling. This is muppet season, folks! :drool:

I don't blame him if he chose Barcelona over United. Barcelona have been hoarding all the talents of the world to prepare for Messi retirement. And it's sad, when Ronaldo was sold, we got Valencia and Michael Owen in. Let's take a second to appreciate the ambitions of the Glazers.

Sorry, I didn't mean an announcement from our end. More about leaking it to the media that we've agreed agreed a fee/personal terms.

If de Ligt prefers Barcelona over us, then I can only see this transfer rumour ending one way.

Looks to me like it always looked, De Ligt camp waiting for Barca to up their offer. That the only noise comes from Catalan media was of course also a massive hint. Only the clueless reddit ITK's have driven this nonsense on based on the Catalan noises.

Tbf I don't think De Ligt is signing for us, but Simon Stone practically says nothing there. Says it's his feeling and even says If Barca move agreed.

You do realise De Light is touted as the next big thing as far as defenders go?

Besides what exactly do you think we have to offer him right now apart from history? If he is coming here, it's cos of the money and the opportunity to help us ascend the top of English and European football again.

You either give him a humongous contract or risk losing out on him and being stuck in the mediocrity that has become commonplace with us lately. I definitely know which I'd choose.
 

Yup as I said earlier. He knows nothing about this deal.
 
Sky saying we aren't in for him and we believing he may go to Barca are two different things

That was a defining moment in our history. If we had been pro-active at that stage, we won't be offering insane wages to teenagers now.

Stone is an experienced journalist and tweeted at the exact same time as two other sources. Someone has clearly said something, whether you choose to believe the club are just pretending the deal is off or not is up to you.
 
I would like nothing more than for De Ligt to wear our number 5 shirt next season - it would be an immense signing. But let’s act like we actually are a massive club eh? Show him we really want him, make him a fantastic offer but let’s not mug ourselves off. Money should not be what gets him over the line. If this Sky Sports article indicates that this is us finally saying, we’re not going to be that (Di Maria, Sanchez, Fred) club anymore - then I can live with it.

Stone literally says in the next tweet, that he doesn't know whether United are interested in him or not and doesn't expect United to say any of the things.
