Never heard of this guy, now I hear we're about to sign him?

Oh snap he's a fullback too!

As @vodrake said, he was very good against England, can't particularly remember the games against Costa Rica and Uruguay.

Italy did have a very poor World Cup, though.

The game I attended was Italy vs. Uruguay. He didn't impress me very much but I'll admit that one live game is not a solid foundation to base a player's quality (or lack of) on.

Only seen him play maybe twice, so know nothing about him.

A word of caution though: Sky Italia are not reliable. And England's sky tends to distance themselves from it. I learnt that in the Summer of Sneijder.

It's coming from Di Marzio who is the most reliable Italian journo you will find on Italian related deals.

Can't say I've seen too much about him. But he sounds like Antonio Valencia with the versatility of John O'Shea.

Let's be honest, even if he's not the new Philip lahm, there is a real lack of quality fullbacks out there these days.

I think LVG obviously loves he can cover both the LB/RB Positions too, he always says he likes adaptable people.

I can't really get excited for this one, though I think it's likely. Is he really a good signing?
Better than Clyne, somewhere around Rafael/Coleman level, but without Rafael's injuries and would cost half as much as Coleman.

With Danilo out of the market, he is probably the best choice.

What about DiMarzio? Is he worth taking seriously?

From what i've heard, he's reliable when it comes to Italian teams and players. Outwith that he's pretty hit and miss.

I followed him on twitter at the start of June and anything transfer wise relating to Italian football that he's tweeted has happened, or is about to happen.

For example he broke the news about Kondogbia to AC Milan, and was then the first to say Inter had beaten Milan to his signature whilst everyone else was still talking about him going to Milan.

I've never known a club to have so many left backs. Shaw, Rojo, Blind, Darmian could even count Young.

Well with Rafeal looks like to be leaving, the signing makes sense. The possibility to be signing a fullback is an area especially on the right that needs strengthening, so if it comes off signing 2 strengthens another weak position.

Depay - strengthens our wide position
darmian - strengthens our full back position

2 signings that strengthens 2 weakened positions

Could add Blackett and Reece James to the list as both have represented the senior team at LB.

darmian is a possible signing that will replace rafeal, so the club will need a fullback. If he covers both positions all the better for the team

From what I can remember seeing him for Italy he was above average and definitely one of their best players, but thats not saying much as they have been pants. And when you factor in there dont seem to be many quality right backs that arent past their peak he doesnt seem like a bad option at all. Certainly seems a more solid bet than Clyne would have been

Agreed few of €18m or £13m just confirmed on Sky Sports News according to "Sky sources in Italy".

Haven't seen him at all for Torino, just a few games for Italy where he was very impressive and particularly menacing against England.

At that quoted price and the rave reviews he's recieving on here from the majority, I am all for this signing though.

People bemoaned Liverpool's signing of Clyne as very shrewd business on the cheap, but is signing Darmian would surely supersede that as far as value for money goes, even if he isn't PL proven.

Thanks that helped. Hope he is right this time around.

As long as he's one of the better right backs in world football, that's all you can ask for, even if there is a dearth of quality.

Darmian seemingly ranks quite highly and is arguably the best that is available and attainable, so why not.

Why? Because of our injury problems? No other club would class a left winger they had to draft to left back as an option in that position.

On Darmian (from his wiki)

In early 2015 he was awarded with the Pallone Azzurro as the best player of the national team for 2014.

I know they've been dump for a while but still.

Never seen him play, but my brother signed him for Sheffield United on Fifa 13 and he developed to an impressive 88 overall rating which is enough for me to get into muppet mode.

They are not good as a team, but they have very good individuals, like Pirlo, Buffon, Marchisio, De Rossi, Bonucci, Verratti and others. But Darmian stole the show

I love how we're signing players from different European nations, it actually makes cheering for teams during the International break easier and possibly cheering for a World Cup winner someday, and i love the Azzuri.

Also love the influx of good looking players and fan favourites .
