Seen more of Coleman, so would prefer him but the reports on this guy are very good and because of the price, I would also lean this way. So mixed on it.

I still think Rafael should be first choice though ;)

I can't really get excited for this one, though I think it's likely. Is he really a good signing?

It would be great if we could finally field an entire back 4 of players who are 6 footers (or thereabouts). I know that the likes of Evra, Rafael, Neville and Heinze have all been good in the air 'for their height', but I would love it teams would no longer have the option of targeting the fullback on the back post at crosses.

He was one of Italy's best players in the World Cup in Brazil, and the opener was his second appearance with the National team I believe.

This is rubbish tbh. I asked a simple question, do you consider Jones a better RB than Clyne? Would you start Jones over him in that position?
Clyne is a better RB than Jones, but if Clyne can't even cement his position ahead of someone that does not even play there often, it says a lot about how good he is. Of course you would come and tell me that Hodgson is a terrible manager, but if Clyne was ever as good as Darmian was for Italy, where he was named as their best player for the year, Hodgson would be much less inclined to drop him in place of Phil Jones.

I'm making a comparison between the importance of both players for their country, and its pretty evident that Darmian is a lot more important to Italy than Clyne is to England, or are you telling me it's not?

Sky Italia and the preposterous figure of Di Marzio are the only people running this story. Sceptical that United have any interest in this player.

He reminds me a bit of signing Herrera, in that they're both mid-20s, been chugging away nicely on a domestic level for a team just below the top tier (5th-10th area) but have not really properly set the world alight on a global scale, don't have many international caps yet (though Darmian is ahead of Herrera, for obvious Spain-CM related reasons), would be thrilled at making the step up with us, and could still be moulded by LvG. I like making that sort of signing. Better than someone like Alves coming for his retirement pay cheque with nothing left to prove.

Edit: I would add Schneiderlin into that Herrera/Darmian bracket too.

Probably this, though

When you see comments like this from Italians or Serie A fans, you know you're signing a good player.
Is there any club whose fans don't hate us? :wenger:

You never know, though. I personally don't like Di Marzio/Sky Italia but they're the only ones to go off for Italian news. British journos obviously have no clue about our business

Di Marzio is not 100% accurate ofcourse but he's more accurate than most others, even more so when it comes to Italian transfers.

Plus he's being quite specific in this and not just reporting it one off floatingly. Let's see.

This Di Marzio guy is posting a lot of clickbait shit lately probably to keep his global following interested, but when it comes to Italian players he is always spot on.

Ah everyone's favorite SW reporting it.

So, is this guy quick?

Would be awesome if we could make this happen. Would have been happy with either of Coleman, Clyne or this guy.

Sounds good if true

excellent player for us and €18m + €2m in bonus is a very fair price that is £12.5m and £1.5m in add ons which is almost as much as what Liverpool paid for Clyne and that was a so called super deal for the price but the fact is Darmian is 3 times the player Clyne is.

£48k a week is also an acceptable salary leaves room for salary increase when contract needs to be renewed and in case it doesn't work out for him here he'll be easy to sell with such a salary.

Hope it is true

Lots of people here have been raving about this guy before us being linked with him so this link sounds good.

He isn't CL proven, don't want him. hihihihihi

When we were linked with Clyne I remember lots of people across platforms wondering why we weren't trying to sign Darmian , glad that it seems like the club have pulled off a good signing for a really important position.

During last night Manchester United have accelerated their efforts to sign Torino's Matteo Darmian.

New contacts between the parties were taken late last night and these were positive which mean that today could be the decisive day for the transfer of the full-back to Old Trafford. It seems that Man United seem willing to fulfill Torino's asking price of 18 million Euro's, as the Granata await the final answer from the Red Devils.

Manchester United have already successfully negotiated a deal with Darmian as the players' enoturage have been working on this solution for the past 4 months. All that is separating Darmian from a dream-move to Manchester United and the Premier League, is a simple yes.

I think we need to see things in perspective. Is Darmian the safest bet around? I doubt it. He had never played outside Italy and his experience with a top club is somehow limited. The Italians tend not to put too much pressure on the flanks and that's something Darmian will need to adapt to. He will have to defend more, against more technically and physical wingers. Having said that I think that some people are taking this risk a bit too far. Darmian is a regular first team Italian international player. He played in the Serie A, whom, despite not being the finest league in the world any more is still a well respected league and one of the top 4 leagues in the world. Also he's quite a versatile player who can play on both rear flanks and even centrally which makes him quite a handy player to have around. In many ways he represent less of a risk than Depay is.

I am pretty confident that he will make it at OT. He's the type of full back that Manchester United fans like ie he's hardworking, he's a professional lad and he's able to go forward and cause damage. He's a big match type of player. He showed that not only during the WC but also against Juventus where he scored a magnificent goal in the derby and recently against England national team were he totally annihilated Clyne.

Coleman would have been a safer bet, however he's not as technically gifted as Darmain is, he's older and not as versatile. Not to forget that he would cost us at least double the fee.

Who was the last Italian to play for us? We haven't had one in a while have we?

We need cover in the right back position so this transfer makes sense. Get it done!

Can he play in a midfield 2 though?
He actually has played there, granted it was almost 10 years ago. He used to play mostly as a CB, though. He was shifted to a fullback position eventually and excelled there and became the leader and captain of our primavera.

He isn't CL proven, don't want him. hihihihihi
not premier league proven, either. don't know if he can handle the physicality of this league.

in a serious note I've never watched darmian play. how good is he and what should we expect from him?

I guess it was Macheda
