He ain't all that and he is 25, hardly a 'kid'.

I base these view on nothing concrete, except for his age, which is a legal fact.

Coleman is older but people on here would like us to buy him even though Everton will likley ask twice as much as what this lad costs.

The guy started 28 games last year, 18 as a left wingback, 8 as a right wingback and 1 as a central defender. Versatile kid.

Well yes exactly. I have never seen this fellow play as I am sure that most people on here haven't.

His birth certificate will be a matter of legal record.

It's ok, I found your phrasing humorous, whether it was a fact or a legal fact made no bearing and made me smile..

FYI, I've seen around 30 games of him in the last 2 seasons, about 10 or so before we were linked to him, but have made an effort recently to watch more games, and I prefer the ones involving players we are linked to. If you are interested, he started as a CB so is clearly a strong defensive player, he moved to the RB position, but can play LB and DM. Pace, Stamina, Awareness and Tackling are probably his strongest attributes, but I saw quite an offensive side build up to his game this season, more of an assister than a direct player, but highly energetic, very good player, a level below top draw currently, but that may be that he hasn't had the platform, every time he's played for Italy (13?) he hasn't looked out of place.

Thank you, it took 1 year to have an answer to my question. So Christian Jean-Pierre was right, he did started as a CB.

Jack of all trades master of none?

I don't know that's the case, but I'm just a bit wary of players like that myself.

Versatility is not a bad trait per se. See Philip Lahm.

Exactly, it's how good you are in those positions, he is a very good RB, a good LB and an average DM imo and he shouldn't play CB anymore.. most utility players aren't very good in any position, merely "good" in most.

I am all for this transfer. Has been rock solid when I have seen him. Good pace , great defender and technically solid. For 20m € it's a no brainer really..

Darmian isn't and never has been a DM and he's much more comfortable at centre half than there.

I've seen him very few times but he's been decent in those games. I remember him being quite good at the World Cup despite Italy's very early exit.

Didn't he play against England? I reckon most people watched that. I know I did. Unfortunately, I have no memory of his individual performance. That might be just me and my crappy memory though.

Yeah I saw that game actually. An anonymous member of 'the worst Italian team in history'.

I can't read too much into that.

Maybe you've forgotten but he was there best player by miles, he was running our left side ragged especially being picked out by pirlo all day long. Pretty sure he crossed for balotellis winner too.

Doubt he watched it. He was great in that game.

Yeah I remember watching that game and thinking who is this guy? Not often you get a fairly unknown player in a national team these days. He looked very solid all tournament I think.

I thought that he was referring to the dour 0-0 more recently. My bad.

I did see the WC game but I have little recollection of it.

That's nonsense and you definitely can't have watched the game if that's your view. He ran us ragged all game.

Edit: scrap that, just seen your last post!

I'd never heard of the guy before last year when he absolutely dominated England at the World Cup. Definitely one I'd like to see at United especially if it means no more Valencia at right back.

I've been doing some digging on him and the thing that stands out is his pass completion percentages - 77.7% -- any regular watchers of the Serie A care to explain that?

He's a quasi-winger in Torino's lineup and involved a lot in the attacking third, hence the completion percentage of a winger rather than a defender. I guess crosses also help bring that statistic down.

Meh. Trippier was about 10% lower and he looked okay. Wing-backs often have nowhere to go in tight spaces.

I like the sound of this guy. We do need a RB, looks like Rafa's on his way out. Montoya and Clyne have been sold, kinda leaves us with either Coleman, Van Der Wiel or Darmien. I'd take Darmien from the lot tbh.

Darmian and Coleman are two good options who would improve us, with little difference between them as far as I can see. I'd be happy with either but Darmian strikes me as the far more likely buy.

Both better than Clyne, I think.
