Matteo Darmian | LVG confirms he's on his way here for a medical

People need to calm down. Sky report a medical tomorrow and Di Marzio reported that yesterday too.

FFS, most people on here hadn't even heard of him this time last week and now there's moaning that we haven't signed him yet? This place is ridiculous sometimes.

Some muppets need to up their game. Pfft the whole Torinos manager confirmed it is soooooo last night! Come om lads, stick with the program ;)

I watched him at Sky Sport Italy, he said that Darmian deserve to play in Champions League and if he will end at Manchester will be happy for him.

Not to mention the fate of Italy's reputation as a footballing nation now rests on his shoulders. That's Balotelli's fault.

Your statement is also ridiculous. How can you not know about Italy's starting fullback? Even if you watched England vs Italy at the World cup you would know about Darmian.

And yet a chunk of the posts from the first few pages of this thread and when the first tweets about him popped up boil down to "Never seen him play. Is he any good?". Hell, I'd only ever seen him play those two games against England, and I thought he was predominantly a Left Back!

My point was that a week ago there was basically no information or links of us to him, there wasn't even a thread on the forum about him, and now people are already having a meltdown about our inability to close the deal.

It's hardly embarrassing to not know Italy's starting full back. A lot of people don't pay much attention to international football, or watch foreign leagues. Nothing embarrassing about not spending all your time watching football.

Good for you.

I was voicing my opinion based on an observation that italian players haven't dont well in the EPL in over a decade, now there have been obvious factors as to why i.e skillset/ability, injuries, wrong clubs/situations etc and i agree with most of them, but my overall point and response to a poster who said Italian players do well in England, was that it hasn't been the case for a while hence the "not really", Darmian might end up being successful in England (which we all want anyway) but its still too early too tell, seeing as most of the people judging his abilities on here are doing so through highlights, stats and other people's testimonies, and without any valid primary research, its really hard to predict how successful he'll end up being,if we compare him to the last decade of Italian exports - he won't be as successful as we'd like him to be,comparing him to the stars of the 90s however, and he might end up being the best Italian player to ever play in England.

The reason i didnt particularly compare him to the "World Beaters" of the 90s was that most of them were already very much established before they moved here.

You're being ridiculous. How can you possibly come to conclusion that Darmian may not be successful in the PL because other Italians haven't been?

You do know that before Ronaldo, there'd been a handful of successful Portuguese players in the League, yet he managed to become the best player on the planet.

If you haven't seen much of Darmian, then it's best not to voice an opinion, at all. Just wait and see if he's successful or not.

I'm guessing you didn't read the whole thing, because I CLEARLY stated his career could go either way, which is fair, there's nothing in that post that suggests I made a conclusion.

The bit about the former players was in response to another poster/argument that Italians succeed in Europe.

I actually think you're the one being ridiculous seeing as you're criticising a sentence that predicts 2 different scenarios - a prediction, not a conclusion, and one of those scenarios is about him possibly becoming the best Italian export in the PL.

And for the record I have seen Darmian play for Italy and Torino,im not claiming to be an expert on Italian players or the Italian league or anything like that, I only follow one team there.

The bit where you're telling me not to voice my opinion is crazy, especially on a football forum, and especially after I only made a prediction that his career could go either way - not a conclusion as your ridiculous post claims.

Death to replying only one side of a long post instead of actually reading the whole thing, just so you have something to say.

I read your post. But I was referring to you specifically stating that if he were to fail and then linking it to the fact that a large majority of the Italians to have played in the PL have failed to impose themselves - that is a ridiculous correlation, if any, at all.

I compared him to the successes and the failures, don't see how it's ridiculous.

One players success is not based on another's. Each player is an individual, and they determine their own success or failure.

I just don't see how Balotelli or Borini being sh*t or Zola being good will have any bearing on Darmian.

I read he was flying to London then catching the train up to Manchester .
Must be sending the private jet for Ramos then .

Yes, but I didn't just start comparing Darmian to former Italians in the PL out of the blue, that post was part of another argument which started a few pages ago,the careers of those former players have nothing to do with MD, I only said he might end up being a success like the first batch or a flop like the second batch - which is basically the same thing as saying he might succeed or fail - a harmless prediction, not a conclusion.

Tbh you're the one trying to make a correlation, if I had said "he will definitely flop like Dossena or he'll definitely succeed like Zola" then it would have been a conclusion.

This is hilarious. Woody must have a plan behind this apparent fear of making a decision. This lad and Morgan are probably the worst dithering I have seen in years, bearing in mind the relatively low costs involved.

Calm down. Of course nothing is official yet. Hell he hasn't even had a medical yet. I'm expecting deal to be done tomorrow. Di Marzio did say they have to tie up all details with lawyers

Another day/week goes by with nothing happening.

While I am happy with this signing (seems its done), it's absolutely shocking that this transfer took 4 months to complete.

I mean when you think about it, his transfer fee wasn't exactly very big. It probably should of been met without question. Was there a host of other clubs in for him? Juventus possibly? But I'm really not sure, I've not heard of another club linked with him.

So we had zero resistance, with a low transfer few and it takes us 4 months to complete said deal... does that not set alarm bells off with anyone?

Country that is good at football and geographically close to England in selling-some-good-players-and-some-bad-players-to-English-teams shocker?

So you believe all the crap the media writes before the signing is even announced and take it as the truth? Memphis and Blind were done within days, I doubt Torino is much more difficult to deal with.

No because we know sod all. We could have been assessing Rafael, exploring possibilities regarding dani alves, or other options for all we know.

There were reports of Bayern and Juventus interest in him. You're assuming there was no resistance

FFS, Blind & Depay are Dutch and it's common knowledge they were easy deals to complete considering LVG is at the helm.

I rarely believe most of what's in the media, but it has been put out there by a few sources that we have been negotiating with Torino for 4 months.

Exactly, you nor I or NL Max know the real events. It has been said by some sources so until we know otherwise it is fair game to be analysed.

Well I did mention Juve, so I assume nothing.

I'm sorry but 4 months to carry out a transfer like this is a considerable period of time. More so when we have "bigger fish to fry". This should of been done in a fortnight, a month at most.

From what we've heard so far of the deal, I'm failing to see why it would take 4 months to complete.

I think we didn't complete this deal sooner because of Alves and we were holding out hope to see if he'd be sign for us.

Looks like we leaked wrong info to the English press about Clyne over the last 4 months while contacting Torino re: Darmian.

Very well played Mr. Woodward, actually used a smokescreen to get this deal done quietly
