He is currently significantly better than Valencia, Jones, McNair, Blind, Rojo and Shaw in RB/LB position. I wouldn't say that he is better than a fully fit Rafael who is at his best (12-13) but I don't think that we'll ever see a fully fit Rafael.

So, he would be our best LB/RB.

Unless our level you think about Irwin, Evra and Neville, then I agree. But then, he is still only 25.
 
I've seem him play sparingly for Italy and don't remember much.

But from what I've read from Torino and Serie A fans, is that we would be getting a real quality player.
 
Wow this looks like it might actually happen. Would much prefer him to the other average RBs we have been linked with. Make it happen!

A defender from the Italian league does not need PL experience to know how to defend. We've much better defenders than the ones in the PL because it's just the way players are trained here.

Indeed. The incredible level of defending and attacking in Premier League. I think he will consider cutting his career short once he witnesses the magic of Walters, Agbonlahor and Vardy.

Blasphemy! The level of defending in Premier League is higher than anywhere else, ever. In-prime Baresi and Maldini would struggle to get into Leicester squad.
 
Damn. We shouldnt go for the guy cause he.. you know.. doesnt have PL experience.
If he's smart he'll tell Torino not to sell him cause he probalby wont cope with that amazing PL standard of defending and attacking. Why gain PL experience if you dont have it already.
 
Let's just hope he runs over Valencia as he drives into Carrington.

Collectively, we might not have the best attackers, but you're making it out to be much worse than what it actually is.
Also, you can't really argue against the notion that the Serie A produces the best defenders.
 
I thought people stopped the whole PL experience thing once they realized that it means nothing?

Then who, that we could realistically buy, is? He's alot better than Valencia at right back. Rafael as well who should leave for obvious reasons. I bet if we sign him he will be a success and considered one of the best bargains of the season. Definitely more so than Clyne.

Kagawa was the best bundesliga palyer, Blind the best Eredivise player, the former didn't make it and the latter seems pretty average squad player to have in the team working on the way to be the best team in the world.

Darmian is good value for the money and versatile players are always great to have but he might struggle with the tempo of the league I feel. I wouldn't mind swapping Evans + Cash for proven Coleman rather than Darmian. I think Young won't have many games next season as left winger so we might want him to transform into LB/RB role and that would mean we are well covered if Rafael stays.

I don't think there are many options in the current market..

Let's not bother ourselves with some unproven player. Isn't there enough available PL talent for right back position? We should raid Leicester, Stoke, Villa and the rest for the amazing talent they have instead of going for a significantly cheaper Italian international who has been recognized by Juventus and Bayern.

Kagawa wasn't the best Bundesliga player & Serie A is a much better league than Eredevise.

Depends how much cash, if Everton want £25m+ I think Darmian at half the price is the much better option.

Kagawa wasn't the best Bundesliga player and he can barely get into Dortmund side now. Blind has been very good for us so far and Serie A is of a much higher standard than Premier League.

Yeah I was only trying to be funny although I do believe it's an easier league to defend in, particularly for older, slower players.
I agree with you though, Italy has produced more world class defenders (either Italian or developed there) than anywhere else over the years.

Seriously, who could have been better? Reus, Lewandowski, Hummels, Robben, Ribery, Schweinsteiger, Muller, Lahm, Kroos, Neuer, who?
 
As the son of a first generation Italian American, I love having an Italian in the squad to root for!

That whole Machida thing was a bit depressing, except for that wild start.
 
Some people seem butthurt we aren't signing Coleman. He priced himself out of a big club signing him last year when he signed a 5 year deal.
 
Darmian is getting underestimated here, and for what it's worth Premier League experience is not a pre-requisite quality for potential signings. Plus a degree of risk is inevitable even with domestic transfers, so there is no foolproof method. The concerns with Serie A players can get blown out of proportion. It isn't what it used to be once, but the standard is still quite good across the board, and Darmian is arguably one of their 3 best and most versatile fullbacks. Fair enough, he might not be an Alves or Lahm caliber of player just yet. But he is definitely close to Carvajal or Azpilicueta as one of the best young-ish and well rounded fullbacks in Europe. Who wouldn't want that type of player at United ? We could do much worse for the quoted fee, which might just look like a bargain once he fully realizes his potential.

So instead lets stick to EPL proven players. Like Torres, Young, Fellaini, Downing, Lovren, G.Johnson, Carroll and co. Those signings never fail.

Kagawa was never the best player in bundesliga. He was certainly in top 10, and probably even in top 5 (in season 11-12) but the player of the season was Reus and BVB's best player was Hummels.
 
I don't think people are underestimating him. Quite simply, most of us have hardly seen him play. Personally, never gonna sit down and watch a Torino match on a Sunday night.
