One his best games in a United shirt, couple of good cut backs for Mata and Mkhitaryan in the first half and an assist in the second.

Very good attacking performance for him, 3 good crosses and good interplay. He was a bit suspect defensively though.

Just looks very uncomfortable at left back. I don't think he's in jose's long term plans. Simply played because we had to rest blind while Shaw remains injured. Though he did do well in creating chances especially in the first half. Remains very suspect in defence against anything remotely tricky or pacey.

I just dont understand what was so good about his performance, forgetting his good assist cross, alright he deserves praise but everytime he's on the ball he's just painful to watch, also was skinned a couple of times today..

We will see how big difference it is when Shaw gets finally fit again.

When Shaw was fit, he was 10x worse,

He hardly ever seems to stop crosses coming in. He's far too passive.

Probably his best performance going forward finally putting in a few decent crosses. Defensively naive.

what a nonsense, when shaw was fit he looked comfortably the best left back in the league... even unfit Shaw looks half decent comparing to Darmian, but hard to argue and back a player who has missed over 80 games out of 90 due to injury and hasnt featured lately. darmian is thrash fullstop

I really wish he'd pull a Rojo and resuscitate his United career. Love old school no-nonsense defenders like him.

Shaw has been really poor this season. No two ways about it.

Shaw is better in all aspects. Always thought Darmian was solid defensively but as a poster mentioned above he does little to stop a cross. Better option than Blind at LB but Shaw has to get fit/make up with Jose.

Along with his crosses, his link up play was really effective going forward. Something I really haven't seen from him, I used to dread when he and Mata were on the same wing.

While that is probably true it's not actually saying much.

He was better going forward today, not great but better at least he was making the effort to get up the pitch and help out. Nice cross for the 2nd as well. Was a bit suspect defensively as usual though.

Thought Shaw was fit again when Jose said the other day we had zero injuries. I suppose he needs to build his fitness up, really can't get back quick enough.

Incredible how he didn't seem to think to show Snodgrass onto his right foot. Very frustrating to watch.
Darmian's left is still his weaker foot.

He hardly ever seems to stop crosses coming in. He's far too passive.
He's too into Italian school of limiting opponent than actually forcing, no-nonsense, ball winning defensive approach.

I thought he was good. He did more offensively than I thought he would, he made overlaps, he got some good crosses in (his first two were really good and with the left foot iirc) and got an assist for a goal.

I have to agree. As much as I like him he's painful to watch. The way he gets beaten by the most mediocre of players using the simplest of tricks on a consistent basis is not good for my heart.

good game from him (altough sometimes he made me nervous). at least he is quite reliable and available, never get injury as our backup player. shaw is indeed more talented n far better, but it's useless if his team cant rely on him. of course I hope we can watch amazing shaw again in our left side just like before his horror injury.

This is what I don't get with him, it's either one or the other. In the rare moments he's ok/decent at attacking he's rubbish at defending, or vica-versa (and often neither).

@Annihilate Now! :nervous: maybe we need to rip on some other fringe players..

... to the Lingard thread?

He was good against Hull because they are relegation fodder.

I don't think Darmian is a good enough attacker or defender for United.

He passes back too much and often struggles defensively.

If I were Mourinho, I'd be looking for a good attack-minded fullback in the summer. Then I'd keep Darmian as cover for another season before selling him back to Italy.

I also quite like what Darmian is doing at the moment. Just gets on it. Doesn't look entirely comfortable on the left, particularly when he gets in to a crossing position, but he never stops trying.

One of his best games for us from an attacking point of view. Didn't seem to stifle our attack like he normally does, played in some excellent balls and did things first time. I wonder if he will start over Blind on Sunday, both are suspect against pace; Blind more so.

Blind has good delivery and is excellent on the ball and is more comfortable at LB than Darmian being left-footed.

Man Utd 1:1 Liverpool
God he's awful. Looks scared when he receives the ball out wide and you know it's just going back down our line. What the hell is happening with Shaw???

Kills our attacks down the left side. Doesn't support Martial who has 3 guys next to him.

He's the definition of vanilla, he wasn't terrible today but he just offers so little, especially against a side that was wide open to being attacked on the flanks.

Thought this was one of his better games, but Blind gives us so much more support and variety in attack from his passing, running and intelligence.

could have run riot that side with that arnold guy looking like a scared deer in the middle of the highway whenever martial came up against him. he should have attacked way more

How is he playing over blind? Blind's main weaknesses are pace and strength but Darmian is just as slow and weak and even worse against pacey players as he isn't even smart enough to try compensate. Then his on the ball sttacking output is just nonexistent.

I just don't see what he offers over Blind and Shaw, I don't think he's good enough to be a United player.

He might as well not even try to go forward in the attack, the worst attacking LB I've seen at United and automatically makes the LW's job two times harder.

Get rid ASAP.

I've been as big a critic as any on Matteo but I thought he was good today. I've come to expect nothing from him offensively speaking so I won't critique him there, but he did defend very well. And, considering he scares me like no other when he has to actually defend, that constitutes as a good showing from him for me.

Solid defensively today, but zero contribution to attack (exactly why is solid defensively :p)
The one legged Tony V is helping stretch the play much more than Darmian. Wtf has happened to Shaw?

A good defensive option, but too limited in attack for United.

When Blind plays LB he pops up in that attacking third constantly, Darmian needs to do more there.
