A straight loan always appeared to be the preferred option, considering that the club originally suggested that to the player already in the summer and even recently had talks with Frankfurt about that. But Tel wanted to fight for his spot. Later on Tel changed his mind about leaving. If Spurs can get him on a no obligation deal, why cant we?
And Bayern currently just wants to have planning security. Either Tel comes back, or a certain amount of money comes instead, and they want to know that now do they can prepare their summer transfers.
If it's true that United insisted on an option it's obvious why that was declined.
Still funny that he at first rejected Spurs but now agreed to it as he is running out of options. There is a "beautiful" German word for this: Resteficken
