Mathys Tel | on his way to SPURS. He’s going to Spurs lads. SPURS

If Spurs can get him on a no obligation deal, why cant we?
A straight loan always appeared to be the preferred option, considering that the club originally suggested that to the player already in the summer and even recently had talks with Frankfurt about that. But Tel wanted to fight for his spot. Later on Tel changed his mind about leaving.

And Bayern currently just wants to have planning security. Either Tel comes back, or a certain amount of money comes instead, and they want to know that now do they can prepare their summer transfers.

If it's true that United insisted on an option it's obvious why that was declined.

Still funny that he at first rejected Spurs but now agreed to it as he is running out of options. There is a "beautiful" German word for this: Resteficken

Its not like were in competition with Spurs or anything is it......

Just the small matter of a CL place up for grabs in the EL.

Absolutely toothless in attack - any hopes of winning that competition are diminishing by the hour.

We are extremely thin upfront. How is this dodging a bullet?

If we are unsure about him, like many on here are, we should not spend money on him. Like others are saying, we need someone who are a bit further ahead in their career. And we probably won’t be able to get such a player now.

Best bet is that this season will continue to be a nightmare.

Its like we dont want the tens of millions from playing in the Champions League.

Things are shaping up for Spurs to kick United out of the EL at some point and Tel scoring the decisive goal, aren't they?

The Glazers were made fun for the top 4 trophy being a goal but this INEOS lot seem to be okay with a top 10 trophy being the aim these days...

So much drama over such an average player. Aren’t people bored of having nothing players in the squad?

Love how the spin begins as if people will just forget he held out for Arsenal/United
I actually really rate him but we are broke
Yeh they’re spinning this when realistically Spurs wanted him on a perm and now they’re loaning him for a few months and he goes back to Bayern. Which is what he wanted.

So he rejected a move to Tottenham, waited for someone else to come in for him, realised no one else wanted him so then accepted the move to Tottenham, have I got that right?

It’s similar vibes to rashford thinking half of Europe would want him only for him to end up at Aston Villa.

Difference is only a handful of clubs can actually afford £325k/w wages

After reading the last few pages one question remains: why would they agree to loan without an option to Spurs even though United offered an option to buy?
Very weird.

Option gives the power to the buying club. This way if he does well, Bayern will still retain the power to sell at a price they dictate.

I mean can't the selling club simply reject the option easily, being an option and all rather than an obligation?

I dont understand why United would insist on an obligation. At this point, just get the body in, especially if we dont believe he is a long term option.

FFS why didn't we persevere with this, ah well no chance of any hijack as we don't work quick enough

My guess is that Spurs' offer to Bayern was way above what Arsenal or United would contemplate paying or even setting a buy option at. Tel understandably wanted no part of signing permanently onto that dysfunctional train wreck at this point in his career. But Bayern now had no incentive to move him to Arsenal or United for a reasonable buy option or obligation, as that would lower his perceived value (if you set the buy option or obligation at 35-40m, that's what everybody will see as his worth) and are probably just hoping that Tel either likes it enough at Spurs that he'll give in and sign there in the summer or does well enough that another club will be willing to go to 60m.

Basically, it all makes sense from Bayern's perspective. Its not the worst deal for Tel, as he'll at least get to play there. It doesn't make all that much sense for Spurs, as the "best case scenario" for them is probably that he doesn't show enough to make anybody else willing to pay 60m but likes it just enough that he'll overcome his reluctance to sign there. Arsenal threaded that kind of needle with Martin Odegaard but its not an easy one to pull off and you really need the manager and project to convince the player.

Not exactly. Tel likes playing for Bayern and wants to stay but he realized he needs playing time. And it's obvious how undecided he was now about what he should do. So actually he refused to be sold but took the short term loan which allows him to return to Bayern.

Bayern apparently accepted loan offers from Frankfurt and Spurs and a permanent deal from Spurs and would have been ok with him staying as well. Tel in the end decided for the Spurs loan.

Maybe? Begs the question why is there ever an option to buy if both parties can pull out of it.

If we give you an option we give up any control over the player. We can only lose. Either the player is a success and you buy him, or he flops and we're stuck with him. Makes no sense. And I'm not trying to be mean here, but you are about the last club I'd loan a player to. The way you destroy a players value is alarming. Only sale made sense for us. A loan without an option maybe. But an option was rightfully a no go for us.
And what about this now?!

Why not just offer same thing instead of just sitting back in your comfy INEOS chair. Utd just letting this happen is so negligent on their part

You do realise that’s where we are at right? Gone are the days of signing players of the ilk of RVP, Cavani, Barbatov etc.
